Kenneth McKellar - The Midges
Description: The late, great Kenneth McKellar (23 June 1927 - 9 April 2010) a
true son of the Clyde, singing a comedy song about the famous
Scottish Midges. Kenneth McKellar was a very accomplished classical
tenor however after deciding that a career in opera was not for him,
he signed a new recording contract with Decca, for whom he went on
to make more than 30 LPs between the mid-1950s and the early 80s.
These encompassed a huge range, from mainstream classical and
religious songs through excerpts from Broadway musicals to the
Scottish popular tradition of Robert Burns, Harry Lauder and other
well-known Scottish folk songs. Sadly he was to die from pancreatic
cancer aged 82. The Midges - Lyrics Chorus The midges, the midges,
Im no gonnae kid yes, The midges is really the limit, Wi teeth like
piranhas, they drive ye bananas, If ye let them get under yer
simmit! The Lord put the Garden of Eden on earth, And its north of
the Tweed, we believe, Ay, Scotlands the place, and the whole human
race, Started off with MacAdam and Eve! In six days or under, he
finished this wonder, Except for the Forth and Tay Bridges, Then
always a bloke for a practical joke, He made Scotland the home of
the midges! Chorus The midges, the midges, Im no gonnae kid yes, The
midges is really the limit, Wi teeth like piranhas, they drive ye
bananas, If ye let them get under yer simmit! Back in 1314, the
proud Edward was keen, To take Scotland into his care, But he made a
U-turn when he reached Bannockburn
