Refugees come to Canada to escape gender persecution

More than 15 per cent of female refugees who came to Canada in the past five years did so to escape gender persecution, according to a CBC News investigation. Gender persecution is the most common reason women seek refuge in Canada, ahead of religious, ethnic or political persecution.
