Hey guys, welcome once again to Classic Cinema Rewind, the podcast. Now, it's been a little bit. We've taken kind of a little hiatus from doing these for a little while. I've been having a lot going on at our Classic Cinema archive here. And so we've been kind of, you know, a little busy and not been able to do these for a while. So but we're jumping back in full force and going to bring you some classic cinema rewind podcasts. But the interesting thing with this is we're actually taking this into another realm. Not only are we going to do the podcast, but we're also going to make the video. We're doing a we're shooting a video as we record this podcast as well. So we'll make the videos available on our YouTube channel and our ultimate tube channel. as well as the podcast available to you in audio format. So this is going to be a broad range of you being able to check out Classic Cinema Rewind. And today our Classic Cinema Rewind is brought to you by Warner Archive. Yes, the good folks at Warner Archive. And if you don't know who Warner Archive is, well, you're missing out. Now, Warner Archive, of course, is Warner Brothers, but the Warner Archive is a specific branch of the Warner Brothers family. Warner Archive deals with the classic stuff, the classic TV, the classic movies, the classic things like that, and they're bringing you a service made on demand. Now, made on demand is a very cool service because, now, of course, we all know we're going to receive, the big releases in the stores. You're going to see your DC films, your Marvel films. You're going to see your big blockbuster films. You're going to see all these in your big stores, but you're not going to probably see your classic films in store. You're just not going to see it. We're just living in an era where people want the big blockbuster releases, but they don't particularly want the classics. Now, if you're listening to this podcast, you're watching this podcast, you know you're probably like me. You like the classics. You have a desire for those older films. There's something special about them. Well, that's where Warner Archive comes in. Warner Archive is doing an amazing thing with this, and I'm so excited about it. And the fact that these releases that would normally not get a release, you wouldn't be even able to get them. They're not available on streaming. They're not available on DVD or Blu-ray. They're not available anywhere in the stores. You can't go online and get them. You can't, I mean, it's just, we're living in that kind of era where streaming is a big thing, but a lot of these releases are not even getting a streaming. And so it's kind of cool to be able to see that Warner Archive is making this available. Now, what is made on demand? Made on demand is very simple. You go to warnerarchive.com and you search their immense catalog of their made-on-demand releases. You find what you want. You add it to your cart. You pay for it. They make it in-house. They send it to you. Very simple, cut and dry, and then you have a physical copy of that release. A lot of people like the streaming, and that's fine, but if you're a physical media fan like I am, you want that physical media in your hands. And so Warner Archive sees that desire for people where people say, ah, physical media is dead, and it's not really true. It's changing, yes. We have gone in a different route. A lot of people are enjoying the streaming side of things, but that doesn't mean that physical media is actually a thing of the past. People still love that physical media, and that's why the Blu-rays, DVDs and stuff are still in stores. Now, they may not be as heavy in stores, but they're still there. You can still get them. But a lot of these releases, these older releases, you wouldn't see them in your stores like your Walmarts, your Kmarts, your Best Buys, your different places like that. You're not going to see them there because there's not a big market for the older releases. Well, In Steps Warner Archive, I'm bringing you Made on Demand. Now, we have two really awesome Made on Demand releases from Warner Archive. That is going to be the focal point of today's podcast. What is that? What are those two releases? We're going to tell you about it right after this. Stay tuned. Free movies and TV produced by Pastor Jay at classiccinemamagazine.blogspot.com or at youtube.com slash therealpastorjay. Well, I built my house upon the rock, and that's where I abide. Now you can own the latest albums from singer-songwriter Jason Pastor J. Lockard. I thank Jesus the healer for saving my sinful soul Streets of gold and a crystal sea A mansion there awaiting me. And no more saying goodbye. By going to classiccinemamagazine.blogspot.com. A paradise beyond the sky. All right, thanks for staying with us here. We're going to talk today about something very interesting from Warner Archive, two releases from Warner Archive. Maybe many of you remember Patrick Duffy. Patrick Duffy, of course, is probably best known for his soap opera, primetime soap opera that he was in Dallas. But before he was in Dallas, Patrick Duffy starred in a movie series and then a TV series. And it is sci-fi superhero. Now, a lot of you are probably hearing that and saying, what? you're talking the guy from the Brady Bunch type reboot you know the step by step many of you probably remember step by step and he was the dad of the kind of Brady Bunch-esque type of thing yeah I'm talking about that Patrick Duffy but Patrick Duffy yes he was in a superhero type series before now Warner Archive has released interestingly enough the TV series and the very first TV movie. Now we're going to deal first with the TV movie. The TV movie of course is The Man from Atlantis. This is the TV movie and this is on Blu-ray from Warner Archive. The Blu-ray of this basic movie deals with a man that is found washed ashore and is unconscious. They rescue him. They bring him in. They run some tests on him because there's some very interesting things about this man that he's got webbing in between his fingers and his toes. Very interesting. He has weird eyes. Very weird eyes, and he kind of breathes underwater. When he's out of water for any length of time, he begins to choke. He begins to not be able to breathe. Very interesting. And they soon come to realize that this man is a man from Atlantis. And this actual series is very, movie, introductory movie, I should say, is very interesting, and it stars a great, or has a great actor in there, and that is Victor Buno. Now, Victor Buno is probably best known maybe by some, maybe you know him from other things, but probably some of you probably remember him as King Tut in the 1966 version of the Batman, the Batman TV series with Adam West. But he did multiple amazing things, and I'm not going to go into that because I don't have time. But definitely Google Victor Buno, and you will find amazing stuff that he was in. But this, he plays a villain, which, of course, hey, he played a villain, King Tut, in the Batman series. So, hey, nothing wrong with that. But in here, he plays a villain that wants to take over the world. and it is up to the man from Atlantis to try to foil those plans. Very, very cool. And I have to say that this Blu-ray, it looks amazing. The TV movie looks absolutely stunning. It is probably one of, I didn't expect it to look this good. I'll be honest with you. I don't know exactly what they did, but boy, Warner Archive did a great job. It looks stunning. It sounds really crisp and clear. There is some artifacting from little things from the age of the film, but nothing that is going to take away from the enjoyment of this film. The underwater scenes are gorgeously shot. I mean, the pacing of the film is really good. It's just amazing. It really is something special. And Patrick Duffy really is believable as the man from Atlantis. You just really do. You believe that he's a man from Atlantis. You really do. And there is some semblance of, how do I say this? There is some semblance of, you could call it nostalgia. Or maybe some people would say, ah, this just shows its age. I consider it nostalgia. It's a nostalgic feel because you see the older things from the 70s and all, and it brings back nostalgia, a bygone era. You see the big computers where now we have smartphones. You see all these amazing things, and it just takes you back to a different era, and I enjoy that. I really do. Now, some people would say, it's antiquated. It looks bad. Personally, I enjoy it. I think it's really cool. I really loved it. And Patrick Duffy really looks amazing in this series in this movie here Now after this The Man from Atlantis they did three other Man from Atlantis TV movies These were so well done and got such a good response from the audiences, and they got great ratings. They decided, well, let's make a TV series. I'm glad they did don't get me wrong I'm glad they did but it didn't work as well they probably would have been better off as far as rating wise to continue the movies but that's okay I don't have a problem with it they went to a TV series now at one of our stores here in our town where we live we were able to find The Man from Atlantis on DVD Yeah, the Warner Archive release on DVD. Unbelievable. I was shocked when I went to one of our stores and I found this. It had been donated to one of the stores. And I was like, wow, you've got to be kidding me. Somebody bought this and then donated this. This is hard to believe. And so, yeah, this was very, very cool. We got The Man from Atlantis, the TV series, on DVD, the complete TV series. Uh, this set here is four discs, okay? And on this set, you get all of the episodes on this set. Uh, very, very cool release. I love it. Uh, you get three episodes on the first disc. You get four episodes on the second disc. You get four episodes on the third disc. and then you get two episodes on the third disc and then the fourth disc. It has two episodes. So very, very cool. And, you know, like I said, these are made on demand, okay? Not a problem for me. I don't have a problem with that. They're not pressed. They're not the pressed DVDs. But, you know, hey, it costs money to press DVDs, people, okay? It's going to cost more money. And when you have to press the DVDs, you have to send up a big order, you have to do all that. You've got to make the cost higher. I mean, it costs money. So that's why the releases are much more expensive. You know, it is what it is. But I don't have a problem with the made-on-demand. I enjoy this. Now, like I said, the TV series is not as spectacular. You can kind of tell they were, how do I say this? They were constrained by the time. Okay, Man from Atlantis, the movie, runs 96 minutes, so they had time to bring out that story and play it out. These episodes are only 46, 48 minutes long, somewhere around in there, so you don't have as much time to tell a complete story in a short time. So that's why a lot of things feel kind of rushed sometimes, and I think that might be some of what happened, is that they felt kind of rushed when they were doing it, and so thus it didn't work as well. It still is a great series. It still is awesome, and I still enjoy it, but you can just tell the Man from Atlantis, the TV series, was maybe not as good as the TV movie. My hope is that eventually Warner Archive, I hope they get a big amount of people asking for Man from Atlantis, and that maybe, just maybe, we'll get all four of the Man from Atlantis TV movies on Blu-ray. That would be amazing. I would love, I have never seen any of this series until now. So this is the first time I got to see Man from Atlantis, the TV movie, and this is the first time I ever got a chance to watch the Man from Atlantis TV series. So, yes, I would love to be able to see the other TV movies and see how they went about, but we'll wait and see. Maybe eventually it'll happen. I don't know. But a lot of people maybe remember, some of you may remember, if you follow on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and on our YouTube channel, you may remember us unboxing the man from Atlantis and kind of talking and making some of you may think it was a disparaging remark. We said it was a poor man's version of Aquaman. That was not meant disparagingly. What that was meant, Av, as was this. Patrick Duffy plays a man from Atlantis the man from Atlantis, the king of Atlantis is Arthur Curry, Aquaman so in a way, this and see Patrick Duffy is kind of foiling evil people's plans, that's kind of what Aquaman does, so in a way it is a poor man's version of Aquaman That does not mean that it's a bad TV series or a bad movie or anything. No, I'm just saying it's not. It's a poor man's version. That's the term. It's a poor man's version. You know, no big deal. But I enjoyed it. I really did. I enjoyed it, and I think Warner Archive has done an amazing job with these releases. I am thoroughly, thoroughly enthralled with them, and I can't wait for more great stuff from Warner Archive.
