It's time now for the Classic Cinema Rewind with Pastor Jay. I'll see you back at the hut. Oh boy. Hey, doggie. Now join Pastor Jay as we rewind the tape. And enjoy some classic cinema. Greetings, Classic Cinema fans. This is Pastor Jay here on the Classic Cinema Rewind. Once again, today we're talking about an interesting subject. We're going to talk about physical media versus digital media. and we're living in a world now where digital media is becoming the major thing. Every company seems to be trying to do streaming services. Netflix was the thing way back in the day. Everybody had Netflix. It became a big booming thing. When all the different companies saw how things were going with Netflix and how they were making a lot of money, then everybody decided, well, let's jump on this bandwagon. So you got your Hulu's, you got your CBS streaming services, you have all your different streaming services for wrestling, WWE Network started in, and then Impact Wrestling started Impact Plus, and all the different lower tier companies, You know, the independents are starting their digital services as well. And one of the big things was Disney Plus. Disney Plus, everybody was so excited about Disney Plus because you would get every single Disney movie and more on the Disney Plus website on that streaming service. Well, and so everybody was like, wow, this is great. This is what we wanted. So that was a big thing. Well, interestingly enough, just about a week ago, I guess it was or so, Disney Plus subscribers began to notice something that was strange. Disney Plus had said that content was going to stay on there forever and never disappear, but content started disappearing. and so many people felt like well they are no different than Netflix and we began to see people posting on Twitter stuff like turns out Disney Plus is removing content after all just like everyone else and why is Disney Plus removing anything? Isn't it the point that Disney streaming service have everything under one umbrella? You know, people were really getting very disgusted about that because of the fact that that was the whole point. You pay your money, you have your digital content forever. You can watch it whenever. But Disney Plus became the thing just like everyone else. And of course, like everything, Disney had to make things clear. that a lot of the different movies that are on Disney Plus are under a licensing deal. So, yeah, granted, some of those things are going to roll out. They're going to be here, and then they're not going to be sometime down the line. So, yeah, that's why digital is a flux of a thing. Now, many people like the idea of digital because of the fact that it is convenient, shall we say. All you have to do is hit up the app, start it up, scroll to what you want to watch, and then hit it and watch it. And that's what people, some people like that. and they like the idea of not having to have that type of thing to where you can't get what you can have that variety, if you will. Now, for some people, they like the idea of being able to watch their movie when they want to watch their movie, no matter what. And so if you have Netflix, it's going to rotate. Disney Plus, a little more static, if you will, with some of the Disney stuff. But some of the other stuff is going to rotate. It's not going to be there sometimes. So you're spending your money on a monthly basis to have these things, to have the ability to watch these films. But there again, you may not have it. A lot of times Netflix and the different streaming service will only put up holiday movies during the holiday season. And maybe you're just in a mood for one of those crazy holiday films and you just kind of want to watch something like that. Well, you're not going to be able to do it. That's why physical media is still the thing. if you have a certain film that you like and you want that, you have to have that. You've got to have the physical copy. Now, a lot of people say, well, you know, I'll just own it on digital. And before anybody sits there and attacks me on that, I own a lot of digital films, and I love them. There are a lot of times if I want to watch a film, I just, you know, click it and watch it on the digital instead of digging out the DVD or the Blu-ray. So I have them and that cool and I enjoy the idea of that But the thing is if Voodoo decides to go out of business there has been talks that Voodoo might go out of business sometime They looking to possibly sell that company to somebody else. And if that's the case, a lot of those movies can go away unless they sell it to another company and that company decides to port everything over. If they decide to wipe everything away, and start over from scratch, you know what happens? Everything that you have is gone. That's the issue with digital because you don't specifically own it, okay? It's floating out there in cyberspace. And like I said, if a company decides to go out of business, if a company decides to sell off their company to another company and another provider or whatever, that media can go away. So that is why digital media is cool, but it's not in your hands steady. We could lose everything digital just like that if we're not watching because some of the stuff with Voodoo was some of the – it was another company that decided to go out of business, and I can't off the top of my head right now remember it, but one of the other companies went out of business, and you had to make sure you ported everything over to Voodoo or to some of the other companies because that was going to end up happening. All those movies were going to go away, and so that's why you have to be very careful. You have to watch that because it will. It can go away on you so very fast. That's why, for me, I love my digitals. I love them. I love them, as I said. I love to sit there instead of having to dig out a DVD, maybe just pop it in and just bring up the Vudu app or the Movies Anywhere app or whatever on the Roku and just click the movie and watch it. Then I don't have to dig out the DVD. It's a lot easier sometimes, yes. So I do love it, but I still love my physical because of the simple fact that if, perchance, one of the companies go out of existence, there goes your films. That's why you have to have the physical media. That's why I love physical media. That's why I'm a physical media collector because you just never know when it could all just go away. So, yeah, that's why I'm a physical media fan, and I still am to this day. If you've looked at those of you that are watching on YouTube or if you're listening to the podcast, you saw maybe the little thumbnail of the Classic Cinema Rewind. You see that's just a snippet. What you saw on there is just a snippet of that's our physical media collection, just a very small amount of it. because that's probably about one one-hundredth of what we have because of the fact that it can go away so fast. So that's why we have to preserve it by owning it on physical. So that's our kind of spiel about physical media versus digital media. What's your thoughts on that? Well, you can hit us up on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram at TheRealPastorJ. you can leave a comment here on YouTube or UltimateTube or hit us up with a comment we'd love to know what you think about physical media versus digital media we'll be right back after this with an interesting additions to the Classic Cinema Archive here on the Classic Cinema Rewind Free Movies and TV Produced by Pastor Jay at ClassicCinemaMagazine.blogspot.com or at YouTube.com slash TheRealPastorJay. Alright, thanks for staying with us here on the Classic Cinema Rewind. Of course, this is Pastor Jay here with you. We're talking physical media versus digital media. We talked about that a little bit with how the digital media can just go away. And that's why we are physical media collectors here at the Classic Cinema Magazine. This holiday season, this Christmas season, was a very interesting one for us. We've been adding a lot of cool stuff to our library, and we want to share just a couple of them, the Christmas movies that we actually added to the library. this one I don't know it's just something it's not as good as the original TV series not by a long shot but it was just something I had to add it is Munster's Scary Little Christmas that is not Fred Gwynn as Herman Munster no it's not but it's kind of a cute little film it's nostalgic it gives that kind of feel of the Munsters And so I was like, you know, I'm going to add it because I think it was like three bucks. So I was like, I'm going to add that to our archive because I like the characters of the monsters. So that's why I wanted to add that one. This one we got for, believe it or not, only about $1.50, I believe it was. And it is a kind of a classic. It is Bill Murray Scrooged. But really a unique take on the Christmas Carol. So, yeah, anytime you get Bill Murray, he's hilarious. So I had to add that one as well, especially for $1.50. And then we talked about how that maybe you're just in the mood for some holiday hijinks. And, you know, if it's gone on the digital services, you can't watch it. Well this one you can if you have what I have the physical copy of Home Alone That is a classic in John Hughes classic And who doesn love Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern I just love them in this film. So, yeah, we had to add those to our collection. So, yeah, good stuff there. All right, so for the Christmas season, we had some interesting additions through gifts and stuff from family and friends and all. And it was kind of a nice, productive little Christmas season as far as for physical media collecting. And I'm going to save the most amazing one for last, I guess. But, yeah, let's jump right into this. Courage the Cowardly Dog. I like that. The complete first season of Courage the Cowardly Dog. This is a Comedy... I mean, Comedy... This is a Cartoon Network Hall of Fame collection set. And this is really so cool. Courage the Cowardly Dog was a unique little show. And, yeah, so that was a pretty cool little release. So you got two discs set there. And pretty cool. not the most amazing of, um, of TV cartoons of all time, but it was cute, and I, how do you not have that one, it's just, it's just really cool, so, uh, so yeah, Courage the Cowardly Dog, yeah, pretty cool, all right, uh, some gifts that we got for Christmas season, we got a lot of, believe it or not, we got some pretty amazing stuff that has to do with Disney, so that was pretty cool. First off, we got National Treasure. Nicolas Cage loved this film, National Treasure. We had this on a Burn DVD that we made from a VHS copy, but didn't have the physical, this kind, the actual DVD. That's why this is so cool. In addition to that, National Treasure 2. Both of these were taken from a VHS tape to a DVD that we owned and did it that way. But this way we actually have the pressed copy of these. So this is really cool. So National Treasure and National Treasure 2 Book of Secrets. Very cool. And added to the physical media archives here in Classics Cinema. We also got something really interesting here. A Goofy Movie. This is the Disney Gold Collection. A Goofy Movie. I actually haven't seen this one yet, so this is one I'm going to have to check out. But who doesn't love Goofy? And his son Max, and they go on an adventure. So very, very cool. Love that. So yeah, Goofy Movie. That was a Christmas gift. Yeah, cool stuff. Also, Christmas gift. Walt Disney Classic Short Films Animation Collection. Look at this. Mickey and the Beanstalk. This actually includes Mickey and the Beanstalk, the brave little tailor, Gulliver Mickey, through the mirror, and Mr. Mouse takes a trip. So this was actually added to the archive thanks to some gifts from the family. So very, very cool. A couple more Disney additions, which was really awesome, was – let's do this one first because this one is a little bit more amazing. Okay, this one was an addition. This is a Disney film. This is The Sword and the Stone. And, yeah, so this was kind of an interesting little film. I don't remember ever seeing this film. So watching this one was the first time that I ever watched this. And it was really unique. It's got that old Disney charm to it, which is very cool. So, yeah, The Sword in the Stone, that was pretty cool. And it has some bonus features on there, bonus Disney shorts and stuff. So very, very cool. So I like that. The sword and the stone. I like that. This one, a platinum edition. Unbelievable. Check this out. This is hard to believe that this was given to me for Christmas. This was unbelievable. Platinum edition, 70th anniversary of Walt Disney's Pinocchio. Can you believe that? that is like insane. I mean, look at that. That is so cool. So, yeah, it's a two-disc set. Very cool. Two-disc set. And the classic film from Disney, Pinocchio. Very, very cool. Love that. All right. And something else we got at Christmastime was this, and this was very cool. No words can actually describe this, but this is pretty cool. Shazam! Well, I guess one word describes it. No, but this is really awesome. Shazam on Blu-ray and DVD. Very, very cool. And I love the lenticular cover of the slip cover. Very cool. So, yeah, and so you get the Shazam Blu-ray and DVD. So I actually enjoyed this film very much. So actually getting to own it on the physical media copy is so much better. So, yeah, so Shazam on Blu-ray and DVD. All right As we moved into 2020 we going to continue to do what we do and that is we going to continue with physical media That's what we do here at Classic Cinema Magazine. And so as soon as 2020 rolled around, we were on the hunt again, and we got four new additions to the Classic Cinema Archive, and you're going to be shocked about some of these. All right. First off is Kevin James, Zookeeper. I'm actually looking forward to checking this one out. I haven't seen this one, so I'm looking forward to check out Zookeeper. I like Kevin James. I think he's kind of funny. So I liked him in my Paul Blart Mall Cop. I thought that was kind of a fun film. So I'll be looking forward to checking this one out very soon. So Zoolander, one of the first additions to the Classic Cinema Archive. Also, I'm a fan of the old films or the old TV shows. And this one, this is a movie double feature of kind of a remake or a reboot or however you want to call it. And this is Adam's Family and Adam's Family Values. we actually added this to our collection and the cool thing about this was when we bought this we bought this at Walmart and when we bought it at Walmart this actually came with a digital copy of the movie Fun Size so yeah I'm not sure if I'm going to be that interested in that film but we'll see it's a digital copy, it's a free movie so hey, how do you go wrong with that But anyway, this is the whole reason I picked this up is I wanted to get Adam's family and Adam's family values. So, yeah, Christopher Lloyd as Uncle Fester is always a win for me. So, yeah, so now we have this edition to add to the Classic Cinema Archive. So very, very cool. Then at Big Lots, they had their 20% off sale. So this was the final two here are really amazing. this was it was 20% off on New Year's Day so it was 2020 edition this is Elijah Wood and Donald Sutherland this is Treasure Island now this actually with 20% off cost me $1.50 very very cool I'm not complaining about that this is a basically like a mini series event type thing it's a $180 83 minutes long, so yeah, so it's like a little miniseries type thing, and it is Treasure Island. I love that old those old pirate films, so that's pretty cool. Then the final one we added for 2020 was this one, and this was so amazing. This film was originally $3 at Big Lots. It went on sale down to $1.50 and I just, I was like, maybe someday I'll pick it up. And I just kept holding off and holding off. And finally it was on the 20% off sale and I thought, I'll just buy it. So I took it to the counter and they rang it up and believe it or not, it had dropped to 75 cents and then 20% off and it comes down to 60 cents. Check this out. The Man with the Golden Gun 007 James Bond. This film cost me 60 cents. How do you go wrong with that? I'm glad I held off. It was three down to $1.50 and I got it for 60 cents. So I think I did amazing on that one. This has Christopher Lee in it. You know, I'm a big fan of Christopher Lee and those horror films. So yeah. All right, so that is our talk about physical media and some of our new additions to the Classic Cinema Archive. We'll be right back after this with a final thought.
