Transcript: Christian Wrestling Documentaries on DVD and Blu-ray

What you gonna do, brother, when the not-so-largest arms in the world and all my cinemaniacs run wild on you? Okay, I know, that's a little sad. We could all also do the, the, ooh-yeah, dig it! But we're not gonna do all that. No, today we're talking classic wrestling. I want to thank all you Classic Cinema fans for joining us today. We're talking today wrestling. Now, wrestling is probably one of the coolest sports, if you will, sports entertainment, forms of entertainment in the history of the known universe. Going back to the beginning of wrestling Wrestling was more like Greco-Roman style wrestling It's not what we know of nowadays It's not that type of stuff It was sort of like what we know of as MMA But not even as good as that Because it was a lot of men grabbing and holding And just trying to wear each other out that way I mean, that's what wrestling was. And sometimes matches would go for hours on end of men just sitting and just, you know, holding on to an arm bar or a headlock or whatever. And there was very little movement. And after a while, fans got very disgusted with this. And then, you know, things began to dissipate. Crowds began to dissipate. People were not that interested in that type of thing. So the promoters decided, well, we've got to do something to make it a little more interesting. So thus, if you will, sports entertainment wrestling was born. Vince McMahon, of course, ended up coming up with the idea of sports entertainment. But wrestling was basically what that was long, long before he even came along. It was choreographed. It was decided in advance, and many of that is still going on today, even to this generation right now. Maybe some of you are fans of WWE. Maybe some of you are fans of AEW or Impact Wrestling. or maybe some of you are some of the fans that are the less mainstream, like championship wrestling from Hollywood or Arizona, some of these type of things. Ring of Honor is another one that's a little more mainstream. But anyway, whatever the case may be, you're a wrestling fan, right? So what we're going to do today, we're going to give you some bingeable shows and bingeable wrestling programs that maybe you've never seen before but are pretty cool and you may want to check out. A lot of these are available on WWE Network. We're not getting paid to plug WWE Network, even though I wish we were. But anyway, a lot of these things are on WWE Network, and some of these are not, but they're really cool. So let's dive into some of our wrestling collection here on the Classic Cinema Magazine bingeable shows and stuff today. Oh yeah, brother. Let's go. All right, well, now we're here at the archive area of our Classic Cinema archives, and we've got a whole bunch of wrestling right here. We're not going to go into deep detail on a lot of these because we just don't have the time. But we do want to bring out some of the really cool stuff that is in our collection, and maybe you may want to check out. We have a lot of cool stuff. We're going to take this one off. This is something that we did many, many years ago, and we're not going to go into deep detail of it. But this is all the old Impact Wrestling stuff from way back in the day. This is a whole big zipper bag filled with all kinds of the old Impact shows from way back in the day, from when they were on Fox Sportsnet and Spike TV and all that. But that's in there. So pretty cool stuff. But let's – I'll tell you what. Let's start with what used to be Total Nonstop Action Wrestling has now become Impact Wrestling, although Total Nonstop Action Wrestling is starting to make a little bit of a comeback in Impact Wrestling, which is really interesting. But we got some really cool stuff here. This one I always thought was very, very cool. One of the things that they did when Impact or Torno Non-Stop Action was really, really hot was they had a group called Immortal, and this is the Immortal Collection. This is really, really cool. Immortal Forever, it's when Eric Bischoff, Hulk Hogan, and Ric Flair Led a group of people And they were called Immortal Taken over Total Non-Stop Action Wrestling And it's kind of kayfabe, if you will It's all done kayfabe Which is really, really cool And it tells the story of Immortal Not to a conclusion That's a sad thing They should have waited to release this Until it was a conclusion that they could get to But they didn't do that But anyway, this is a really cool one. I like this release. AJ Styles has become a big part of WWE now Well back in the day he was in Impact or Total Nonstop Action and we got the two DVD sets of the best of the phenomenal AJ Styles Long before he grew his hair out, went to New Japan, became part of Bullet Club and all that type of stuff, he was just phenomenal. and all. And very, very cool two sets here. Awesome stuff. Some great matches here in the Volume 1 collection. We get matches with him with Jerry Lynn, Low-Key, and Psychosis. Still love Low-Key anyway. We get ladder matches. We get NoDQ X-Division matches. We get an NWA World Title Match with AJ Styles, Jeff Jarrett, and Raven. NWA World Title Match with D'Lo Brown. You know, all kinds of cool stuff in this set. Then this set is Volume 2, and this has AJ Styles and Abyss, AJ Styles, Jeff Jarrett, Roderick Strong, who's now in NXT. AJ Styles and Petey Williams. America's Most Wanted with taking on AJ Styles and Christopher Daniels, who's now in AEW. Just awesome stuff. These are two of my favorites. I love these. Many more things we got here. We don't want to go through everything because we just don't have that kind of time. But Kurt Angle, the best of Kurt Angle, a very cool total nonstop action release. Very, very cool. So the best of Sting, the return of Sting, the return of the icon, very, very cool. Back in the day, I was kind of grunge. I was grunge. I was gothic, if you will. I was a raven follower, if you will, when I was a kid. I know that's sad to say, but that's why this still kind of holds a little special place to me because it reminds me of my teenage years of how I was a Raven fan. And this is the best of Raven. Very, very cool from the NWA Total Nonstop Action years. Very, very cool. Probably one of the most unique sets we got is the best of Jeff Jarrett, the King of the Mountain. I don't know why he got such an amazing-looking release, but he did. I like this set. It folds out like that, you know, and it clicks in like that. I think that's kind of cool. That's me. But, of course, I guess the reason he got such an amazing set is because at the point he was basically running the company. Ha ha. Okay. Anyway, we got a lot of pay-per-views, or a few of the pay-per-views, Hard Justice. We got this, the Anthology set, which is really cool. The first ever pay-per-view, Victory Road, and the second ever pay-per-view, Turning Point, as well as the first ever Lockdown pay-per-view in a box set. Very, very cool. So really some interesting things, and this is all total nonstop action related. Something that we miss a lot is, or that I miss because, see, I'm not in California. And so we don't really get too much of this. But this was at a Best Buy when we were living in Kentucky, and I had to pick this up because I'd never seen it. And this was PWG Sells Out. This is a three-disc set, nine hours of wrestling, and it has everybody in it that we know. It has CM Punk long before he became the guy that would take over WWE and do all the things that he did with WWE. This was CM Punk back in the day. AJ Styles Samoa Joe Christopher Daniels Frankie Kazarian Bryan Danielson Daniel Bryan people That's WWE for They always got to change your name for some reason Bryan Danielson Is Daniel Bryan But anyway Joey Ryan Super Dragon Kevin Steen Kevin Owens People All of these are in this And these matches are unbelievable They're not perfect They're not lit in a great Lit in area They take place in a smaller venue They're not Big sold out things But wrestling is wrestling And these are great matches I definitely suggest If you ever get any of the PWG stuff like this If you can find them on DVD You definitely pick some of those up. They're really cool. So anyway, more of it over here. We're not going to go into detail, but we got the best of Continental Wrestling. We should just at least pull these out and let you see it. These are the best of Continental Wrestling, volume 1, 2, 3, and 4. We have done reviews of these on Classic Cinema Magazine. You can check those out if you want to. But very, very cool stuff there. We got the best of IWC Superstar Series. And look at that. That is Ivan Koloff. Very cool. Let's see. We got best of the 80s collection. And Bruiser Brody, people. Bruiser Brody. Love it. Best of the 80s volume 2 and look at there Chief Wahoo McDaniels Ha ha good stuff Anyway but we got all kinds of stuff Best of Memphis Wrestling and all kinds of stuff on here Very, very cool stuff. All right, now this is something that I wanted to share with you. Now, many people think The Wrestler, Mickey Rourke, was the only film ever entitled The Wrestler. You would be wrong. There was a movie produced many, many years ago starring Ed Asner. That is right. That's right. Ed Asner. That is Mary Richardson's boss on the Mary Tyler Moore Show. He is in this film with Lord James Blerz, superstar Billy Graham, Dick Murdoch, Dusty Rhodes, Vern Gagne, all these things. Produced by Vern Gagne. and the AWA, this is The Wrestler. This film is really interesting. It is nothing like this at all, not even close. It is more of a real-life story of how they book a match and kind of letting you in there to see this process of how to book a match, if you will, with the egos of two wrestlers and all this type of thing. It is so cool. It takes you into the 70s. It's awesome. I love that. This I actually picked up for like next to nothing. I think I got this for like $1.50 or $1.80 or something. It was unbelievable. When I saw it for that, I was like, you've got to be kidding me. So I had to pick that up. So, yeah, the wrestler. All right. We're going through a lot of this stuff. And we're not going to spend a whole lot more time. But I want to share with you some of the stuff up here. This is the WWE section, if you will. Yeah, I got to say WWE in this day and age. I grew up on WWF, the World Wrestling Federation. That was me. But anyway, let's look at some of these here that we got. This was really cool back in the day. I grew up when WCW was killing WWF, and that was all because of the NWO, you know. And that was Hall, Nash, and Hogan But this is a really cool retrospective of the NWO from back in the day on Blu-ray Complete with plenty of matches and a little kind of documentary type thing So very, very cool We got some Blu-rays here The best of WCW Clash of Champions Very awesome Like I said, a lot of these, if not all of these, can be found on WWE Network So you can stream most of this stuff that you're going to see here. The Best of War Games, a two-disc set. Love that of the Best of War Games. Very cool. You're seeing that in NXT now. They're doing a lot of the War Games stuff. Let's go back in the day with the Best of, this is Mid-South Wrestling. Junkyard Dog, Jake to Snake Roberts, and Ted DiBiase on the front cover. Very, very cool. Awesome stuff. Let's do this. The History of the Undertaker. Probably one of the most scary characters from back in the day, but this is the best of the Undertaker. Very, very cool. Love that. And Undertaker 15-0, long since Undertaker's streak has went under. But this was when Undertaker was 15-0. Very, very cool. I could go into detail on this, but this is me. I do not think the streak should have ever been beaten. That was just something should never have happened. In my opinion, it should always have been undefeated because he was so iconic. That's me. Maybe other people have different thoughts about that, but that's my feelings about that. I just feel that he should have continued undefeated forever as long as he was wrestling. But anyway, a lot of cool stuff here. We don't have time to go through all these as much as I wish we did. The best of the World Championship Very, very cool I love these sets It has all kinds of matches Of the big gold belt That you saw that I was bringing in At the beginning And then the best of the World Championship The WWF World Championship And these are really cool Booklet-like sets I love those Very cool stuff All these matches, like I said, you can find on WWE Network as well. Gotta do a little bit of Viva La Raza. This is Eddie Guerrero. I loved Eddie Guerrero. Eddie Guerrero was just an amazing guy. You know, didn't live his life as a Christian his whole life, but near the end he got to know the Lord, and that was the most important thing for him and shared the gospel with a lot of his friends and people, and that is pretty cool. So, Viva La Raza, the best of Eddie Guerrero. I love that. All right. Who didn't love a little Jerry the King Lawler? Love Jerry Lawler. Awesome. He was an amazing wrestler in the South. Big-time babyface in the South. But in WWF, man, he was full on heel And was straight on heel with Bret Hart And awesome stuff We don have time to go through all these as much as I wish we did This is a pretty cool set though The best of Sting a WWE release You can get this on WWE Network as well Ricky the Dragon Steamboat, another amazing character in the annals of history. Very cool stuff. We got up in here. We're not going to take all these down because I just don't have time to do it, but we'll just tell you. We got the best of the ultimate Ric Flair collection, the definitive Ric Flair collection, because him and Steamboat were big-time rivals throughout their career. So that was really cool. Ric Flair and the Four Horsemen, very, very cool release from WWE. Shawn Michaels, Mick Foley, The Rise. These are really cool ones that I do have to just share with you, because they are so cool that I don't want to not share these with you. Up here in the corner is the rise and fall of WCW. Telling the story of the way WCW was and what caused their downfall, how does a company that's killing in the ratings end up dying? Well, that's all told in the rise and fall of WCW. A very, very cool release. If I tried to take that off the shelf, it'd probably all fall down on me, so I'm not going to do that. Also, the triumph and tragedy of WCCW, World Class Championship Wrestling. If you want a really interesting tale of wrestling in the 80s with the Vaughn Eriks, that set there, that DVD is just amazing. The documentary is absolutely something that I absolutely suggest every wrestling fan check out because it is that amazing. Rise and Fall of ECW, the spectacular legacy of the AWA, just great stuff. Got Macho Man, The Rock, the best of the wrestling superstars, 80s and 90s, just awesome stuff. So yeah, pick up some of these great wrestling stuff and just see the amazing way wrestling was from back in the day. It's just really cool. I will say, and this is again, I'm not getting paid to promote WWE. But if you want to see a lot of these things, WWE Network is the best way to do that. It's only $9.99, and you can watch these, stream them on your Rokus, your Fire TVs, your Androids, your Apple products, your tablets, your iPads, whatever the case may be. You can stream it via there, and it is really, really cool. And what I'm saying is I do not, I don't get paid by them to do that because I don't even have WWE Network. I don't need it. I got them all here. So I'm just saying as far as you probably don't have all this. So if you want some of that wrestling action, for $10, you can check out all those amazing things. You can check out their pay-per-views. They got everything up on WWE Network. So, yeah. Now, you're not going to get the PWG that we talked about. You're not going to get Impact Wrestling. But you can get Impact Plus if you want to do that. And Impact Plus is another subscription-based service that has all the old total nonstop action wrestling shows as well as the Impact Wrestling stuff from nowadays. So that's just a short snippet. Someday we may go through everything we got, but we went well overboard here. I didn't think we'd go that deep. But anyway, this is just some of the collection here and the wrestling section of our collection here at Classic Cinema Magazine. So that's our bingeable stuff today. You know, go check out some classic wrestling and just enjoy being inside for a little bit. Things are looking a little bit better all around the country, so maybe very soon everything's going to open up. and once that happens then we won't have to stay inside and binge so much but anyway until then we want to say stay safe everyone uh be sure to wear your masks if you do go out be sure to keep your hands cleaned and sanitized uh cover your mouth if you're coughing and don't go out if you're coughing if you're if you're sick stay inside just be safe and uh and and and with us all doing that and being safe together.
