Transcript: Bible Study Lessons from Battlestar Galactica with Pastor J

Greetings Classic Cinema fans, this is Pastor Jay back with you once again with another Bingeable Shows edition of Classic Cinema Magazine. Today we are talking one of my favorites, Battlestar Galactica. I love this show. Battlestar Galactica is a show that takes place out there somewhere. It's an interesting show that takes place as a group of colonies, 12 original colonies that have been destroyed by a race of robotic destroyers called the Cylons. And one colony survives with one ship called the Battlestar Galactica. And they're on a race to make it to Earth where there is a legend that the lost 13th colony of the original colonies resides on Earth. and so they're racing to Earth with the Cylons in tow, trying to make it to Earth to find that final colony and to basically help them to defeat the Cylons. A really interesting TV series. This series here, I love this box set. This is just so cool. It has that roaming eye of the Cylon. This is a Cylon, by the way, for those that may not know that. Okay, but a really, really cool series. Love this series. This box set has been released in different formats, and we need to upgrade it because we got this version. And I have to say this version is not one I'm a big fan of for the simple reason that it is like this. It is all two-sided disks all the way around. I hate two-sided discs, as you know. But hey what can you do The Battlestar Galactica show really is amazing in the fact that it has an amazing cast but it is led by Lorne Green Lorne Green was, probably many know Lorne Green from being Paul Cartwright on Bonanza, the classic TV series Bonanza. But here he's playing Dama, which is the leader of the colony. And just an amazing character. He brings that same loving leadership that he was on Bonanza to Battlestar Galactica. So it's just really, really cool. It's an amazing series. I love this. The special effects in this really bring you back to the 70s, man. It's just so cool with all the lasers and all the things like that. It just takes you right back there to the 70s, and it's just so ultra cool. I love it. Battlestar Galactica did not last very long at all. Battlestar Galactica only lasted 24 episodes. It's unbelievable. Just 24 episodes in this original series. I cannot understand how in the 70s these shows did not last, the science fiction stuff. I guess people were just not into it maybe in the 70s. I don't know. Or maybe the TV companies figured that if they didn't get amazing ratings off the charts, it wasn't worth making the shows. I don't know. But it was a great show, but only lasted 24 episodes. After this, they did get a chance to try to complete the series with Galactica 1980. This is basically the final season of the original Battlestar Galactica In the fact that Adama and his crew have made it to Earth finally And they're trying to find the final colony That 13th lost colony of the original colonies And try to find them and help them to give them the technology that they need to help them defeat the Cylons Very, very awesome series. This one is not as spectacular as the original Battlestar Galactica. It's kind of played up a little more for kids, I think, sometimes. And so it kind of has a more of a not as much peril and not as much of the drama and all that the original series had. But it's played more for kids. So it's a little bit more less edgy and a little less violence and a little less of the drama and all that type of stuff. There was a lot of peril in the original Battlestar Galactica where Galactica 1980, Not as much. So I think that's because of that. It was played more for the kids. Now, the Galactica 1980, I will say at least this one comes this way, two discs, and they're not two-sided. Can't stand those two-sided discs. But anyway, they just don't seem to work. They don't seem to last. They're very easily scratched. They're very easily messed up. It's just not the best way to have a disc, in my opinion. But anyway, this one is not like that, so that's a good thing. This Galactica 1980 only lasted 10 episodes. So all told, right here, we get 34 episodes in total of the original Battlestar Galactica. Now, is it a great series? I enjoy it. I like it. I think it's really good. It's got that retro feel that I really love. And really, they're not going for retro. They just are, you know, when you look at it now. But it's just so cool. And I love Lauren Green in it. I think everybody works so well together. Jane Seymour is in this. I mean, it's just a good series. It really is. What are your thoughts on Battlestar Galactica? Do you enjoy this series? Is it one of your favorites? Are you a fan of the newer version I have to be honest with you I have never watched the newer version because I a classic purist I just don particularly care for reboots a lot of times I just don't watch them because I don't like reboots. But if you do like the reboots and the newer version, tell me why in the comments below. What is it about it that makes it so good, in your opinion, because I'd like to know. Maybe you could change my mind. Maybe there'll be a reason why I should watch it, and maybe I'll like it. But I'd like to know your thoughts on that.
