Transcript: Bingeable Christian Movies and TV Shows for Spiritual Growth

Greetings, classic cinema fans. This is Pastor Jay, Jason Lockhart with you one more time here on bingeable shows and movies for your viewing pleasure during COVID-19. This will be our final video for this little series here. is things are beginning to open up and things are looking a little better. And we're actually going to have a major announcement coming up in a little bit about all about why this will be our final video here. But anyway, we'll talk about that in a little bit. But today, we're talking about a movie series that I love. I grew up on the classics, okay? I'm talking about the classic films. I'm talking about the old stuff from back in the day. And this series that we got, it doesn't get much more classic than this. Today on Classic Cinema Magazine Bingeable Shows and Movies, we're talking about Ma and Paw Kettle. Yes, the Ma and Paw Kettle movie collection. This is a very, very cool little movie series. and just something really good for the whole family. It's just a lot of fun. It basically stars two amazing people, Marjorie Mayne and Percy Kilbride. And they, of course, are the title characters, Maw and Paw Kettle. Now, as we see here, this is volume one of the Maw and Paw Kettle collection. It's got that little shiny moon there on what looks to be like the outhouse. And then in this collection, you've got Mom and Pa Kettle here, and it's like the old washboard. I've always loved these old shows, the shows like the Beverly Hillbillies, like Green Acres, Petticoat Junction, The old rural type of shows that kind of showed life in a simpler time I always loved those They're special to me Probably because, as I said, I grew up on these So to me, I can't get any better than these These are my favorite of all of the comedies probably that I own probably because they special to me because these were my dad favorite as well We actually have watched these in their entirety This is one of the ones that we've actually binged on through this time. So we've watched all these again in their entirety, all the films, and it's been a lot of fun to relive these again. They bring up a lot of good memories for me. I always remember my dad laughing at the fun antics of Paw Kettle. Just a fun little series. In this collection here, Volume 1 of Ma and Paw Kettle, we first get our first glimpse of Ma and Paw Kettle. Not in a Ma and Pa Kettle film, but in an actual film that stars Fred McMurray from many films, and many may remember him from My Three Sons. But this first film is called The Egg and I. And in this film, it stars Fred McMurray and his wife in their trying to get used to a new life in a new town. and it just happens to be that Ma and Pa Kettle live in this town and they're the old hillbilly hick family with all the kids and everything and it is just very, very cool. They were so popular. People loved Ma and Pa Kettle so much in The Egg and I that they decided to try to do a film giving Ma and Pa Kettle just their own film and thus came the second film, which is The Further Adventures of Ma and Pa Kettle, tell the story of Ma and Pa Kettle and their family who live in the old run-down shack. But interestingly enough, Ma and Pa Kettle, or Pa Kettle I should say, is one, a house of the future, and they go to the house of the future and they see all the new gadgets and all the new stuff, and it's them trying to acclimate themselves to this new life. And it's just hilarious. It's really a good little film. Then we get the Ma and Pa Kettle go to town. And Ma and Pa Kettle take a trip to New York and get into all kinds of trouble. We don't want to spoil anything for you, but it's them taking the fish out of water, if you will, and taking the hillbilly into the city. It's really, really cool. Then Ma and Paw Kettle back on the farm is another really interesting one and we just kind of read a little bit of it for you here But after a while their wild adventures in the Big Apple Ma and cattle return to the peace and quiet of the farm only discover that they about to become grandparents while dealing with their son's snooty eastern in-laws and all kinds of cool stuff like that, so they find themselves back on the farm as they bring the in-laws in and they go back to the farm and all that, so a very, very cool collection of films. The only thing that is a problem with this collection, although they work perfectly, is it is the dual-sided disks, which we can't stand, but that's okay. It's okay. It does work, and that's the cool thing. Sometimes the dual-sided disks don't last, so they don't last forever, and they end up not working after a while. But thankfully, all these still work because we watched them all here recently, so very, very cool. Then we got Ma and Pa Kettle Volume 2 This is the movie collection Volume 2 Which is very, very cool In this one, another dual-sided disc With all the films in it But let's look at it here First we get Ma and Pa Kettle at the fair Very hilarious film in which Ma Kettle is going to enter her jam in the contest at the fair. And Pa ends up wanting to make money by racing a horse, and she ends up having to race the horse. It's hilarious. It's so funny. Love that one. It is probably one of the best, but that's hard to say because they're all great, but that's one of the funniest one of the bunch. Then Ma and Paquetto on vacation. And this is where Ma and Paquetto go to France and get into all kinds of problems with spies and all kinds of stuff. Kind of taking a little bit of a different route from what they were used to, but still amazing, amazing film. Then Ma and Pa Kettle at Home. And this one is really cool. It's one we watch every single year because it's kind of got a Christmas theme to it. And it's about Ma and Pa Kettle. Their son, Elwin, writes an essay about his life on the farm. But he writes it as he dreams it was instead of what it actually is. and when the contest judges are coming to check it out, Paul has to come up with a plan to make it look a little bit more like it actually is in the essay instead of what it actually is Very very funny and it does have a Christmas theme at the end so that pretty kind of cool Then finally there is Ma and Pa Kettle at Waikiki So here Ma and Pa Kettle find themselves on vacation again at Waikiki and get into all kinds of craziness and all. And very, very funny, funny series. I have to say that if you've never seen The Ma and Paw Kettle Series You are totally missing out It is so funny They're so good They do have additional Kettle films I should say But they are without Percy Kilbride And to me that kind of kills The whole Thing for the Ma and Paw Kettle films So that's why we don't own those Because it kind of Doesn't quite live up to the same hype. It just doesn't. So that's why we have these ones, the Ma and Paw Kettle, Volume 1 and 2. I have to say that if you've never seen these, it is definitely worth checking out. Definitely go check them out if you can. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised at how funny they are, and they really are worth checking out.
