Petticoat Junction. Petticoat Junction was one of many shows by Paul Henning. They seem to all be in the same, what we call, universe or area at this time. But Petticoat Junction takes place all about Kate Bradley, her three daughters, and her Uncle Joe trying to survive and trying to make their little hotel the shady rest work and thrive and all. And Uncle Joe is just kind of a laid-back, lazy old fella that will try to find a way to get anybody to do the work for him so that he don't have to. It was a really, really interesting show and very, very good, and it was all part of a bigger universe, and we'll talk about that as we go forward. Mama's Family. This started as a sketch from the original Carol Burnett show. And it was Mama and Carol and Harvey Korman and just all the other characters that would come in all be part of the family. Well, after the Carol Burnett show finished, they decided to spin this off as Mama's Family into an actual sitcom. And it turned out pretty good. Now, is it spectacular? Is it great? Is it the best? No. There are some things that, you know, probably it could be better, the writing and some of the stuff. But I personally think a lot of what was done was very, very good. and that's why we put Mama's Family as number six on the list. If you've never seen Mama's Family check it out on YouTube Some of the sketches from the Carol Burnett show you can do that on Carol Burnett YouTube channel You can see some of the sketches and you see Mama Family and what it is and it is very, very good, and it kind of, the irascible old Mama is still Mama in these, and it is really, really good. Vicki Lawrence is a great, great lead to this cast and is a very, very good show. So Mama's Family comes in at number six. Gomer Pyle USMC Gomer Pyle of course got his start with the Andy Griffith Show and Gomer Pyle just a guy pumping gas at a local gas station and all but had a great voice and no one really realized that until one day when he was singing outside the church and boy did he have a great voice well there came a point where Gomer Pyle decided to go tell Andy that it was time for him to do his part and to serve his part in the Army, in the Armed Forces. And thus, he would go and become Gomer Powell, USMC. A very, very funny, funny series dealing with Gomer Powell, just the rural old hick guy, trying to be a Marine, and Sergeant Carter every way around trying to find a way to get him to stop and quit. and just try to make him a Marine if he can't get him to quit. It's just amazing. It is a very, very funny series, and that's why this one comes in at number five. The Real McCoys, an amazing rural TV series. Basically, fish out of water. It is a story of the McCoy family coming to California, taking over the farm in California from a relative that had passed away and trying to adapt to life in California. And you have Amos McCoy, the straight-laced, I got all the answers, and they all, Luke, little Luke, Kate, and Hasse, and Pepino, all the different family members, all trying to just try to make Grandpa feel good as they try to survive. A lot of awesomeness is in this series One of the amazing characters in this is George which is Amos best friend And the two of them always just seeming to just argue all the time about everything And yet George at one point always, through their arguments, would sit there and get so frustrated that he would just sit there and just go, that's it. I've had my say and walk away. It was always just a fun series. And so the real McCoys comes in at number four. The Beverly Hillbillies. Another Paul Henning release, the Beverly Hillbillies tells the story of a fish out of water, which is the Beverly Hillbillies, they find oil on the Clampett's property, and they want to pump it out, and thus they end up becoming millionaires. They move to California, and it is the Hillbillies trying to understand life as millionaires now when they're just Hillbillies and all of the society and all the stuff. It is really an amazing series. It really is something special, and it is the one that really spawned all of the shows that would follow. in the rural comedies from Paul Henning. With Jed Clampett, Ellie Mae Clampett, Jethro Bodine, and, of course, Granny Clampett. And who didn't love Granny Clampett? She's just hilarious. And all the other characters that go with it. This is a very, very funny series, and this is why the Beverly Hillbillies comes in at number three on the list. this probably a lot of people would say probably beverly hillbillies is number one on this list of uh the rural comedies from paul henning but this one to me feels a little bit better than all of the paul henning releases green acres tells the story of oliver wendell douglas and his wife Lisa, who decides to take his wife out of New York and come to a little place of Hooterville and become a farmer after being a successful lawyer. This, of course, didn't bode well for Lisa. She didn't like it very well. And she had to try to acclimate herself from the high society life of New York to the rural area of Hooterville. And this was an amazing series in the fact that it had so many great characters And you had Mr Haney you had Hank Kimball you had the Ziffles and who didn love Arnold Ziffle the Ziffles son son who was a pig and I mean an actual pig It was amazing It was a funny series. It was just off the wall. It was crazy but it was crazy in such an amazing way that it really was fun to watch and it was just perfect. Everybody, all the characters were just perfect, and it was so funny, and that's why this amazing series, Green Acres, gets number two on our list. Who couldn't guess this? The Andy Griffith Show. Probably the most iconic of the rural sitcoms would be the Andy Griffith Show. It's homespun humor. Andy Griffith plays Andy Taylor a sheriff of a little town called Mayberry and you have all your different characters Andy Griffith was an amazing comedian in the fact that he could tell some of the most amazing stories and that's what made this series so amazing was his storytelling capabilities he could tell a story in the most amazing way to capture your attention and then you put all the other characters with him like Barney Fife, who didn't love Barney Fife Don Knotts and Aunt Bea and Ron Howard playing Opie and you had Floyd the Barber and so many other great characters just all in there this was an amazing series and it is homespun humor, it still plays so well even to this day it really is an amazing, amazing series and who doesn't love to just whistle that theme song just like all the other amazing theme songs. Just really great stuff. Every one of these have great theme songs but this one is just so simplistic but so great.
