Greetings, classic cinema and TV fans. This is Pastor Jay here with you once again on a Flashback Friday. Yeah, today we are talking Cary Grant and not just any Cary Grant. No, we're talking early Cary Grant and this is going to be an awesome one. So you want to stay tuned for this. This is going to be great. Now, we all know Cary Grant. All of us know Cary Grant. Probably we know Cary Grant for all his amazing films. If nothing else, we all know of Cary Grant. If for nothing else, we've all watched Andy Griffith's show and remember that iconic scene with Goober where he's imitating Cary Grant going, gee, gee, gee, gee, you know, like that. That's a Cary Grant thing. Now, it's not exactly Cary Grant, but we know that. Cary Grant is known for that cadence that he has, that when he talks, he talks like this. He has that really unique way about him, and it's so awesome. He's just special. When you hear Cary Grant's voice, you know it's Cary Grant. It just is what it is. But we've all seen Cary Grant probably. Maybe you know Cary Grant from something like this, like Topper, an amazing release, Topper. Maybe you know him from such films like some of these, like Mr. Blanding's Builds His Dream House, an amazing film. Maybe My Favorite Wife or The Bachelor and the Bobby Soxer with a teenage Shirley Temple. Very, very cool film. Maybe you know Cary Grant from some of his Hitchcock films, such as this amazing one, North by Northwest, one of the best Hitchcock films. Or maybe you know him from some of his older films, like this one here, which is An Affair to Remember. I don't know. Maybe you remember him from one of these, maybe you don't. But today, we are talking about an amazing release from Keena Lorber. I love Keena Lorber, and this amazing release is the Cary Grant Collection on Blu-ray. That is right, people. We're talking the Cary Grant Collection here today on a flashback Friday. This amazing release is stellar. This is all early Cary Grant films. There three releases on this set right here as you can see three releases They all amazing We going to go through these really quick and let you see what they are It's really awesome. The first one on the set is this one, which is Ladies Should Listen. This has Cary Grant and Francis Drake in it. And this is a really cool one. It's about a telephone operator who's in love with one of her clients and manages his affairs, but manages to complicate them in the side note as well. A very, very funny, romantic comedy. Very, very cool, and it's really awesome. It was produced in 1936, and it is just really a lot of fun to watch Cary Grant be his funny self. It's really, really cool. The next one on the list is this one in this collection. It is The Wedding Present, or Wedding Present, if you will. It's from 1936. It stars Cary Grant and Joan Bennett. Very, very interesting combination here. And this one is basically after unwittingly destroying his engagement through a practical joke, A Reporter Tries to Recapture His Ex-Fiance's Love. And it's very, very cute, very, very funny, just a really good early version of Cary Grant. Now, we know Cary Grant, as he got older, what he became with his amazing dramatic ways, but in the early years, he was just slapstick funny. He was really screwball funny. It was really cool. And then this one is from 1936 as well. This is Big Brown Eyes. And now this one is not exactly a comedy per se. It's comedic. It's got some comedic stuff to it. But it's more of a mystery. And it's about a Times Square manicurist who turns a reporter and helps a detective on a case. So very, very cool. This also is from 1936. Now, the interesting thing with this set here from Keena Lorber is Keena Lorber is not happy with just giving you a bare bones DVD or Blu-ray. They want to give you some extra stuff, and so that's what they do here. Keena Lorber could easily, I have to say, Keena Lorber could have easily put all three films on one Blu-ray, and we wouldn't have lost a whole lot of quality because these are not really what you call real long films. You got your first one here Which is Ladies Should Listen Is only an hour and two minutes long Your second one which is Big Brown Eyes here we going a little out of sequence but anyway Big Brown Eyes is 77 minutes long And then this one, the wedding present or wedding present is 81 minutes long. So they're not really what you call real lengthy films, and you could have easily put all three of these on one Blu-ray and not really lost a lot of quality. But the thing with Kina Lorber, which I love about them, is the fact that they want to give you all the artwork, all the special features, all the good stuff along with this, which is what I love about Kina Lorber so much. We have reviewed so many Kina Lorber releases for them, but beyond that, we own so many because they are just such great stuff. I mean, they really are. They're amazing releases. They have such an amazing catalog of great stuff. You really should check out Kina Lorber's amazing catalog of stuff. But this is really cool stuff here. Now, what I love about these is the artwork. You get the beautiful artwork on every single Blu-ray. Now, beyond this also, you get audio commentaries from film historians and film critics. You get trailers. You get all kinds of cool stuff here. But what makes this collection so amazing to me is the artwork. I just love this. Now, if you can see it, I don't know if you can really see it so good in the camera here. But what makes this really cool is the black and white artwork. And then there's a subtle blue tinge, blue hinting behind Cary Grant here. And it's a way of saying, hey, I'm a Blu-ray. I love that. It is so cool. It is just amazing. Keena Lorber has done amazing work with this one. And I have to say, there are many, many people that say that, hey, physical media, it's going away. We're not going to have Blu-rays and DVDs. We're not going to have all this. It's going streaming. And, yes, a lot of people love their streaming. They love to just stream the content. And you can stream a lot of classic films from Kino now as well, their streaming service. But for physical media fans like me and maybe like you, if you're one watching this, you want the physical media. And Keena Lorber is doing just that They making quality releases for the fans of physical media This box set here all three films are collected in their original full screen I'm so thankful for that. So when you put them on your Blu-ray player, you're going to get them in high definition, but you're going to get the original full screen format, and you're not going to get a stretched screen to try to make it look high def and widescreen and all that. They're giving you the original full screen, which is so cool. They're amazingly cleaned up. They look really great. Been restored and look spectacular. Look really, really remastered and look really good. And then there's also English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing, which is so good as a little bonus feature. I love it. If you have never seen Cary Grant, I definitely suggest this one. But it's interestingly enough, if you've never read our full written review, do so. You can get a link below. But if you've never seen this, definitely check it out. We had some conversations with some people about this, and they said, you know what? We consider ourselves very well-read and well-watched when it comes to Cary Grant. And we didn't know these even existed. And that's true because these are the early releases of Cary Grant, and they look – but many people forget about them. They don't think of the earlier releases. So definitely go check out some of these old releases from Cary Grant. Pick up the Cary Grant collection from Kena Lorber. I guarantee you, you'll find a lot of entertainment, and you're not going to find them looking any better than they do here. So definitely go check it out. we want to thank Kina Lorber for sending this one our way it was so good to get to share that with you in a full written view and on this video we hope you enjoyed it and be sure to like, share and subscribe be sure to follow us here and be sure to go to retroac.blogspot.com every single day and check out some reviews some videos, some podcasts, all kinds of good stuff until we see you next time with another Flashback Friday This is Pastor Jay reminding you that if you want to see a great film, check out the classic, and we'll see you next time here on Flashback Friday. you
