Greetings, classic cinema and TV fans. This is Pastor Jay here with you once again, bringing you another top seven list. Today we're talking about the top seven most sympathetic movie monsters. It's really good because this is Halloween week. So let's take a look at it. Before we do, be sure to like, share and subscribe to these videos and we would appreciate it. Let's jump into the list. Godzilla, King of the Monsters. This is the original American release, the U.S. release. But originally it was a kaiju film, a Japanese monster film, and that's what the kaiju is. Very, very interesting film. It stars Raymond Burr, Perry Mason. But here he plays Steve Martin, an American reporter in Japan, dealing with the attacks in Japan. A really, really interesting thing, this American version is cut together with Raymond Burr speaking to the Japanese people. And it's done so seamlessly that you don't even notice that it has been cut. It's that well done. the Japanese overdubbing for English is spectacular. It's very hard to even notice that it's been overdubbed. It doesn't look that bad. In some of the English overdubbings, it looks so horrible. But here, it doesn't look that bad. It looks pretty good. But why do we put Godzilla as a sympathetic movie monster? Well, it's very simple. It's because Godzilla is awoken from his sleep. He did not want to be awakened. It's us testing weaponry and all this type of stuff that has awoke him. And thus, a creature awoken is going to rampage from his sleep. That's what he's going to do. And that's why Godzilla comes in at number seven. This is Creature from the Black Lagoon. This, of course, is the Legacy Collection. This one here has all three of the Creature films. Creature from the Black Lagoon, Revenge of the Creature, and The Creature Walks Among Us. But this one, we're talking about the original, The Creature from the Black Lagoon. A very, very interesting film. Probably one of my favorite of the Universal monster films. I really enjoy this one a lot. But why do we put this as number six on the list? Well, simply because it's taking place in the Amazon. A bunch of people wanting to fish and wanting to do some research are in the Amazon, and they run across the creature from the Black Lagoon. And instead of just realizing this is just a creature just wanting to just be in his habitat, that they are intent to try to hurt him, try to research him, try to capture him. And what's a creature going to do? It's going to fight back. That's what he's going to do. And that's why Creature from the Black Lagoon gets number six on the list. Now, I have to do say that this is amazing. The music in this is so haunting. It is so amazingly well done. I think it's a perfect piece of cinema and I'm kind of glad originally Guillermo del Toro was going to remake this film before he ended up doing The Shape of Water This one is a perfect piece of cinema In my opinion it does not need to be remade It that good This is The Mummy. This is, of course, the Steelbook edition of the original. We do have the Legacy collection, which has all of the Mummy films in our collection over here. We didn't bring that out. But anyway, because we're really basically talking about this one, the original Mummy release. This is with Boris Karloff. And wow, what an amazing film. This one has been done and redone and redone again in so many different ways. Probably the most notable is Brendan Fraser's version of The Mummy. That is a great one. But this is the original, and it is so well done. Boris Karloff is haunting with his eyes as the Imhotep, who is the mummy that comes back to life. Why do we consider the mummy a sympathetic movie monster? Well, simply because the mummy is what? Resting in peace. And we come along and we dig him up. And when we dig him up, we fool with the incantations and all this type of stuff and we bring back him and, hey, he's going to do what he's going to do. You know, that's kind of what it is. If we leave things alone, we wouldn't get into the trouble that we get into. But more often than not, that's what we do. We start fooling with things that we should never fool with. And thus, we get what we ask for, basically. This is a great film, though. Very, very well done. And Boris Koloff is amazing in this. I love Vincent Price. Vincent Price is probably one of my favorite actors in horror of all time. And this one is spectacular. Now, he's not the monster. He's not anything like that in this. He's just playing the straight character for the monster. But this is an amazing film. This is The Fly. We're not talking about the Cronenberg redone version, which was with Jeff Goldblum. No, no, no, no. This is the original Fly. This is the Vincent Price classic. And this one is all about a scientist who is trying to perfect particle replacement, if you will, changing from particles from one place to another, thus eliminating travel through planes and automobiles and all different types of stuff by just transferring matter from one place to another. well he comes across the idea and he builds the machine and he decides he's going to be the first one to do so so he jumps in the machine and tries to to take that trip well when he does little does he know there's a fly in the compartment with him well the computer only knows what it knows to do and that is to transfer the matter from one place to another and he melds both the fly and the scientists together and thus the scientist becomes the fly. Very, very amazing film. So well done, so well done in history. This one, Cronenberg's, if you've seen Cronenberg's, Cronenberg's is a little bit gross and grotesque where this is just unsettling and really, really tense um it's done so well it really it's done so well in the way without having to be uh grotesque and disgusting with all kinds of nasty um uh special effects it just it it pulls on your heartstrings it is done so well it is an amazing film but why do we call it a sympathetic movie monster well simply because the scientist just wanted to be a scientist, but little did he know he was going to meld with a fly, and the fly only wants to survive, so thus the fly becomes what the fly is, he wants to take over the body, the scientist wants to keep the body, and it's a fight for Survival. It is a great film. One of my favorites. I love it. Wolfman, the original Wolfman. I love this. Lon Chaney Jr., son of the great silent film actor Lon Chaney, known as the Man of a Thousand Faces. But this one is Lon Chaney Jr. And this, again, Another film that has been told time after time so many different ways, so many different things, but this is still the best. The original 1941, Wolfman, recently just added this one to the collection. Oh, I'm so happy for this. I love this. I love this Wolfman set. This one is just amazing. Now, why do we call the Wolfman a sympathetic movie monster? Well, it's very simple. A wolf bites Lawrence Talbot and he becomes the Wolfman. Well, did Lawrence Talbot ask to become the Wolfman? No. Did he want to become the Wolfman? Of course not. It just happened. And that's the point of this film. It is so tense and so amazing. And the transformation of Lon Chaney Jr. into the Wolfman is amazing. It's probably the best special effects for 1941 that I've ever seen. It's that well done. It's amazing. It's spectacular. It's great. But Lawrence Talbot didn't ask to be the Wolfman. It just happened. He gets bit. He becomes the Wolfman. What are you going to do? he didn't ask for it but it's it is so tense it's such a great great film still to this day holds up it's amazing it's definitely worth checking out if you've never seen The Wolfman definitely check it out it's worthwhile King Kong King Kong is an amazing monster in the annals of monster movie history basically Filmmakers go to Skull Island And are just shooting the natives And all that type of stuff Trying to make a movie And lo and behold They find this amazing Humongous creature King Kong And they see dollar signs And decide they can cash in If they bring Kong back to New York Well little do they know That you cannot control something of King Kong's size. That's the point of this, and wow. So why do we put King Kong as a sympathetic movie monster? Well, simply because King Kong was happy being at Skull Island. He was happy where he was. He didn't ask to be brought to New York. He didn't ask to be there. He just was pulled there, kicking and screaming, and hey, you know. and then thus King Kong's going to break free and he's going to do what he does. That's just what it is. Frankenstein. Probably one of the most amazing pieces of cinema in horror history. It is amazing. This of course is the Steelbook This is the Legacy Collection but we talking about the original 1931 Very easily we could also say the sequel The Bride of Frankenstein those together are amazing if you watch both of them The reason we're talking about the original is because it is so amazing. Boris Karloff shows up for the second time in this set and it is so real, this little video here but this is amazing here he plays the Frankenstein monster and wow, what a job he does I think the thing that is so amazing about this film is his portrayal through all the makeup You can see a childlike innocence of the Frankenstein monster Just wanting to be liked and loved and cared for And just want that love And he can't get it because all people can see is his disfigurement And that's what is so tragic about this The interesting thing about this film is Boris Karloff's portrayal It is so amazing because at one point in this film, Boris Karloff is chained up as the Frankenstein monster, and there is a light shining in the dungeon, and he puts his hand up into the light just trying to feel the light. And it's just a stellar piece of cinema. Even when he's playing with the little flowers with that little girl and throwing the flowers into the water, What a childlike innocence. It is so amazing. Why do we put Frankenstein as number one? Simply because the Frankenstein monster did not ask to be created. It was an evil doctor, if you will. Not so much evil, but a person wanting to play God. And he wants to create life like God did. And thus, when he does that, when we play God, we're bound to make mistakes. were bound to mess up, and that is exactly what Dr. Frankenstein did, and tried to play God, and created a monster, and that's what we do. Very, very awesome piece of cinema. It is so worthwhile. If you've never watched it, you need to check it out. It is that great. All right, that is the top seven list of sympathetic movie monsters. It's been a little bit long of a video, but hey, I've had a lot of fun reliving these and re-watching these and checking them out. Hopefully you have as well. Do you agree with our list here?
