Greetings Classic Cinema and TV fans, this is Pastor Jay with you once again on a Flashback Friday. We're flashing back to the 70s once again and this time we're talking an interesting TV series from the mind of Danny Thomas. Now, many people think of Danny Thomas. I had a conversation just earlier on with some people about the fact of Danny Thomas, and I said, you know what, if you ask somebody about Danny Thomas in this generation, probably nine times out of 10, people would say, Danny Thomas, St. Jude's Children's Hospital. And probably Danny Thomas would be happy with that because that was his passion. But in my opinion, I think that's kind of sad because Danny Thomas was amazing. He not only did sitcoms, but he also produced amazing TV shows that people forget about. That he produced the Andy Griffith show. He produced the Dick Van Dyke show. He produced that girl. I mean, so many interesting shows, the real McCoys, so many things. And he gets kind of forgotten about that. And that is a shame. Although St. Jude's Children's Hospital is amazing. He should be remembered for some of his great additions to television and movies as well in my opinion But anyway that why we giving him a little love in the sitcom area here tonight this time around And this time we going to make room for Doctor with The Practice If you've never seen this TV series, The Practice, you're missing out. I love what Warner Archive did here because on the back they put Make Room for Doctor. That's a play on his original TV show, which was Make Room for Daddy. Make room for daddy, and then he kind of spun it off a little bit trying to make a different one, which was make room for granddaddy. That one quite didn't work as well. But anyway, the practice is one where he plays a kind of mean, cantankerous, just old fuss budget-like doctor. But he's so cool. And while he's got this way about him that seems kind of rough and mean and gruff and all, that doesn't mean he doesn't have a lot of love. He does have a lot of love for his grandchildren, for his son, for his daughter-in-law, and for his nurse. Yeah, there's even that. It's a really, really cool series, and I just love it. This one didn't last as long as I think it should have. it only lasted about a season and a half, really. But the second season is where I feel that it really began to get its stride because they brought in Mike Evans, who plays Lionel Jefferson in the original Jeffersons and All in the Family. And when they brought him in, they brought another dynamic, and he was really good He was a good mix for that show and I think they missed out not letting them play that out a little bit because the chemistry between Mike and Danny was amazing It really, really was amazing, and I think that should have been played out because it was really, really, really good. There was an Archie-Lyonel type of relationship there, and I think it could have been really good, but they just didn't play it out. They should have played that out a little bit. I think it would have taken off and really been something special. I love the practice, though. It's about a doctor that's just trying to survive, even though he's getting up in years, and trying to keep his practice, even though people are trying to push him out, and he wants to continue to do what he wants to do. And it's just him trying to prove that age is just a number, and I love that. The practice is really awesome. It's made on demand from Warner Archive. It is a three-disc set, okay? And a very, very cool series. If you're a fan of Danny Thomas, you have got to check out The Practice if you've never checked it out. If you only think of Danny Thomas as the man behind St. Jude's Children's Hospital, I say please Wake up and check this out Check out something like this And see he was much more than just that While that was amazing This needs to be seen The practice is really Danny Thomas at his best Really at his best in his later years He still sharp as a tack and still funny as ever And it really is an awesome release Be sure to go to Amazon. Pick this up. I mean, you're going to love it. I promise you. It's that good. It really is an awesome little series. And it is very, very good. Also, visit Warner Archives' website. I'll tell you.
