Transcript: Top 7 Classic Christmas Movies for a Spiritual Holiday Season

Greetings Classic Cinema and TV fans, this is Pastor Jay here with you once again getting into the Christmas season. Yeah, we're giving you the top seven classic movies on our list. Now, maybe this is not specifically a movie, but it is still so amazing that we had to put this on the list. This is Mr. Kruger's Christmas. It is a short film, about 25 minutes long, but it is so amazing. It stars the amazing Jim Stewart, and oh my goodness, is it amazing. Jimmy Stewart plays Mr. Kruger, a building superintendent, kind of takes care of this apartment building and all. And all he wants is just to see some people for Christmas. His wife has recently passed away and he's alone. And all he wants is to see some people for Christmas. But what a sweet story. you find Mr. Kruger in a dream getting to talk to the Christ child and what a great episode this is it's sweet, it's amazing and Jimmy Stewart is just Jimmy Stewart he's amazing as always and he's so great in this one and if you have never seen Mr. Kruger's Christmas you need to check it out it is so awesome, it is so great it deserves to be watched It is that amazing. Horace McNeely is a counterfeiter that's in prison, and he escapes prison because he kind of looks a little bit like St. Nicholas. Yeah, yeah. And he goes into the town to try to retrieve some stolen money that has been hidden, and he gets the kids to help him with this plan because they think he's actually Santa Claus. But what actually comes forth is one of the sweetest little stories a story of redemption a story of a counterfeiter changing and a story of faith in the impossible Just a great great little story It a Disney film and this is when Disney was amazing back in the day and they had such great stories and such great stuff. And it stars Ed Asner. Who doesn't love Ed Asner? Very great story. Very, very awesome. It deserves to be watched. It is The Christmas Star. This is a film that has been a holiday staple at our house for many, many years. It is Santa and Pete. Such an amazing film. It tells the story of Santa and his helper named Pete. It is really an awesome little tale. It is so cool, and it stars James Earl Jones. Who doesn't love James Earl Jones? That booming theatrical voice of his. But it stars him as the narrator telling the story of Santa and Pete. It is so cool. It takes Santa to the early years of his career as St. Nicholas, giving toys to the little ones and his helper Pete who helps him in the beginning of his career. So cool. Just an amazing, amazing little film. If you've never seen Santa and Pete you really need to check that one out. It's just got a sweet tale to it that is amazing and it deserves to be checked out. Bob Hope in The Lemon Drop Kid. this is an amazing film probably one of my favorite films in the holiday season i i love this one uh my family maybe not so much but i love this one this is my my favorite uh of the holiday films but uh we kind of went through this in our family and said okay what's our top seven so that's kind of what we did but but anyway this one has to be on my on the list here uh but this is a beautiful film, awesome film. Bob Hope plays the Lemon Drop Kid, and he's a horse touter. He kind of goes around and gets the people that are betting on horses, and he tries to get them to give him a little bit of money as he helps them steer them onto a horse and maybe make a little money and do all that And lo and behold doesn he yeah he gets into trouble because he steers a young lady away from one horse that she was told to bet on And lo and behold that horse that was to be bet on was to be bet by a gangster And now the Lemon Drop Kid is in trouble. He's got to give the gangster back his money before Christmas or he won't live to see another Christmas. So much fun. It is a hilarious episode or a hilarious movie. It is so funny. It deserves to be checked out. If you've never seen Lemon Drop Kid, you need to check this one out. It is so funny. It really is amazing. I love it, and hopefully you do as well. But definitely check out Lemon Drop Kid. It's a wonderful life. Many people would say this should be number one, but the interesting thing is we didn't want to be so predictable. So that's why we helped this one, pushed this one down just a little bit. It still could be number one. It is that great of a film, but it's a wonderful life. Jimmy Stewart, he is an interesting character that is, at this point, that is George Bailey that wishes he had never been born because people would be a whole lot better off, the world would be a whole lot better off if he had never been born. And so an angel was sent, an angel named Clarence, to show him what life would be like if he had never been born. And wow, what an amazing tale it is. I can't believe this, but when this first was released, it was a box office failure. No one loved it. Critics panned it. Everybody hated it. Nobody went and watched it. And then as the years went on, it became a cult classic, and people realized how great of a film it was. and now it's become a staple at Christmas season and it really is a great, great film. It's a Wonderful Life comes in at number three. Coming in at number two, it is The Miracle on 34th Street. Probably the most iconic of films for the Christmas season. It's Santa on Trial. Yeah, I mean, wow, what an amazing little film. This has been done and redone Done in remakes, movies Done in TV versions of movies Done in versions of TV shows Like Amen did a version of this tale Just amazing amazing But this one still is the best This is the best This is the original It is the most pure and classic You've got Maureen O'Hare in this. You've got John Payne in this. You've got Edmund Gwynn. And you've got a very young Natalie Wood in this. It's just a great, great film. It's truly the spirit of Christmas all wrapped up into a pretty package. Miracle on 34th Street. really deserves the second spot on the top seven. Coming in at number one, A Christmas Carol. Whether you like this version with Alistair Sims, one of my favorites is the one with original Owen as Scrooge. Whether you like Jim Carrey's version or Patrick Stewart's version or, you know, one of the many hundreds of times this film has been done and this story has been done in film. Whatever one you like, it truly is the Christmas season. It is the Christmas tale, and it is so awesome. It really is probably the best way to celebrate the Christmas season is with this because of the transformation of Scrooge. when he sees, when the ghosts of Christmas past, present, and future take him on this journey, and he sees what his past was, his present, and his future, unless he changes his ways.
