Three, two, one, zero, zero, zero. Welcome to the Retro Drive-In Podcast with Jason Pastor J. Locker. Serious mistake, huh? With Reindeer, I mean. You're putting Panzer where Dasher should be, and Blitzen should always be on my right-hand side. He should, huh? Yes, and another thing, Donas Antlers have four points instead of three. But I don't suppose anyone would notice that except me. We want to thank all our sponsors for their help in making this podcast possible. Now let's rewind the tape and join Pastor Jay for some retro entertainment talk. Peter and his reindeer have just arrived in the workshop. All you children come up, tell him what you want for Christmas, and get your lollipops. Peppermint, the same as last year. Greetings and welcome back to another retro drive-in podcast here with Pastor Jay here with you. Today we are looking back, or maybe we're looking into the future. with an interesting collection from the good folks at Kina Lorber. Wow. When I read of the release of this collection, I was absolutely floored. I did not know we were ever going to get this. And to say now we have got this is, like, unbelievable. And what we're talking about, we're talking about the Buck Rogers in the 25th century complete collection on Blu-ray. Yes! Can you believe this? I cannot believe that this has actually took place. That we have actually got the Buck Rogers complete collection on Blu-ray now. Unbelievable! Can you believe this? This is like a dream come true. For years, we had this version. And this is a cool version. Don't get me wrong. This is a really good packaging. The cover is like this, which is kind of cool. Okay, you got the see-through cover. And then when you pull that out, you got the different things, the different pictures on the front and the back. and that's kind of cool and all, but the thing that bothered me about this, which bothered a lot of people too, I'm not the only one, is the fact that these are two-sided discs. This whole collection is two-sided discs. I hate two-sided discs for the simple reason. The only reason I hate two-sided discs is two-sided discs tend to, after a while, tend to err in some of them. not in all of them, of course, but in some of them, they tend to err. They won't read in the DVDs or the Blu-ray players. And that is a very, very bad thing. I mean, because you put a lot of money into this, and then they don't last. And that's a big problem for me. So while this is a cool packaging and all, I wasn't a big fan of it because of the two-sided discs. Well, now this can be given away, or I won't throw it away, but it can be given away to somebody else that maybe would want it or whatever, because we don't need it anymore, because we got this. the Blu-ray set of Buck Rogers in the 25th century. Now, I have to tell you, the interesting thing about this complete collection is not only do you get, now, look at this, not only do you get season one and season two of Buck Rogers, but you also get this, the theatrical movie event. Now, this is a really cool thing because a lot of people feel like, well, the Buck Rogers theatrical release was just the pilot of the TV series, but that's not true. The pilot of the TV series this which became a two that they broke down is not the same as this Absolutely not This is completely different or not completely different but a little bit different The theatrical movie of Buck Rogers in the 25th century is actually a little more adult. Not dirty, but a little more adult. It has a couple little bad words, nothing major, but a couple little bad words. And the action and the peril and the violence is a little bit more amped up. So there is some difference in this in comparison to the pilot episode of season one. So there is a big difference, or not a big difference, but there is a little bit of a difference in these. And that's why it is so cool that Kina Lorber went and made the complete collection here by doing all three. You get season one, season two, and then the pilot theatrical event. I mean, wow. Now, see, the interesting thing about this is that I was not, you know, able to see this when this was first on the air because I don't even think I was born. Maybe I was born. Yeah, I guess I was, but I was like a baby, baby, baby. I wasn't even, so there had no way I could have watched this because I was still a baby. But this is really, really interesting. Now, how do I know about this? Well, reruns, that was the thing. I remember watching this on Sci-Fi Network. I think it was after school. I think they had a little episode every day. And I would begin to watch it every day. And I would watch the amazing adventures of Buck Rogers in the 25th century. And I fell in love with the show so much that eventually I had to get this. because it was like, well, I have to have it because I love Buck Rogers. It's just so awesome, right? The adventures were so amazing. But as we said, we hate them two-sided discs. Well, now, because of Keena Lorber, we have stellar restorations of these classic shows. Now, and I have to say, this looks amazing. The picture quality of the episodes here in high definition are amazing. I don't think I've ever seen something look so great. It literally looks spectacular. King of Loibert has done an amazing job with putting these on Blu-ray, and the quality is amazing. Something I will say, too, that is different between the pilot episode or the pilot movie, if you will, the pilot of season one, and the theatrical version of this is that this is in its original full screen format, where the theatrical version, not only do you get the more adult and the more violence, not ultraviolence, but a little more violence and a little more action and peril, but you also get this widescreen and in 1080p, which is very, very cool. And, man, this is really a great set. Also, this here comes with audio commentaries, a nine-minute special theatrical preview, two radio spots, and the theatrical trailer. All this is in this collection here. Then also in these, the season 1 and season 2 We also get some audio commentaries on these as well We get audio commentaries and interviews Which is really, really cool In season 2 here, you get an interview with Aaron Gray And an interview with actor Tom Christopher who was Hawk, so very, very cool. Just an amazing, amazing collection of stuff. I'm going to tell you something. This right here, if you have somebody that is a fan of science fiction shows from yesteryear or just a fan of shows like this in general, So this is going to be a great collection to give the holiday season. To Don this gift is from Jackie Oh golly oh shucks I hope that you like it It costs 40 bucks Buck Rogers basically is an astronaut that is on a mission and he gets pushed through time and he's frozen. And then he wakes up and they unfreeze him in the 25th century. and he has to try to adapt to this new world of Earth after a nuclear war and all this and try to adapt and adjust and learn to be in this new world. And I'm going to tell you something. Gil Gerard is amazing as Buck Rogers. Aaron Gray, stellar as Wilma Deering. Just great. And then one thing that I love is the robot Twiki is voiced by Mel Blanc, the voice of many great cartoon characters and all, and throughout the years, just amazing stuff. Beyond that, this series has so many amazing guest stars. It's just unbelievable. I'm just going to give you some of them here. I'm going to not go through all of them, but anyway. You get a very young Jamie Lee Curtis. You get Julie Moon Mar, Jack Palance, Roddy McDowell, Cesar Romero. Let's see, Frank Gorshin is in here. Marky Post from Night Court fame. Peter Graves is in here, Gary Coleman from Different Strokes, just Richard Mull is in here, also from Night Court fame, just tons of them. We won't go through all of them, but there's just tons of guest stars here that are amazing. I have to tell you, this collection is just spectacular. Now, many people will say, well, I have this. I don't need this. I say, this is good. If you don't want to upgrade it, it's fine. That's up to you. But if you are wanting the most spectacular, most stellar looking transfer of this show, you have to get this. This is an absolute must for your collection. The Buck Rogers in the 25th century on Blu-ray. How could you say no to that? I mean, it's just amazing. Now, the interesting thing I will say also, if you're listening to the audio, you can't see all the stuff we're talking about. But the interesting thing here is that I love this box, keepsake box that they have here that holds all the Blu-rays in. And this keepsake cardboard box has the original poster art, teaser poster art on it of Buck Rogers in the 25th century. I think that is so cool. And then you have different artwork for season one and season two. And then the theatrical edition. Really, really cool. Now, if you don't specifically want this, okay? if you say you have the complete series, but you want the theatrical film, well, there you go. Keanu Lorber has made available the theatrical release on Blu-ray as well. So you can get it this way, or you can get it in the complete box set. It's just however you want to get it. I mean, It's either way. Very, very cool. So, I mean, I just have to tell you, Kina Lorber has blown me away with this collection of stuff. I have to say I have never been more impressed in such a tumultuous year and such a year that has just been so wracked with a lot of troubles and a lot of stuff and a lot of, with the pandemic and with all kinds of stuff going on. this right here brings me hope for an amazing 2021 i i am a fan of physical media i'm a fan of blu-rays and dvds and all this type of stuff i love to own the content and uh this is amazing this is stellar this is spectacular i um i can't tell you how much i i'm in love with this set. It is so cool. So if you want to upgrade maybe your Buck Rogers collection like this you really need to upgrade it to high definition in this I mean all the shows are presented in their full screen format which is cool They're in 1080p, but they're in the full screen format. They would have went and stretched them out. Yeah, that would have been bad. But thankfully, they didn't do that. They made them in 1080p, but they have the black bars on the side so that you don't have those stretched out pictures. There has been a thing going on here lately that has been driving me absolutely crazy. These older shows from the 80s and the 90s that were basically made for full screen. Now televisions are widescreen. And so when they put them on television now, they kind of like stretch out the picture. They were not meant to be stretched out. That's why everybody looks kind of like that, and it looks terrible. But thankfully, King of Lorber didn't do that. They made the pictures in 1080p so they can display correctly on your television and on your Blu-ray players, but in the original full-screen format, and I am so thankful for that. Yeah, I mean, man, King of Lorber has just done an amazing job with this. if you're looking to do something for someone for this Christmas season if you want to give somebody a gift and you know somebody that is a fan of science fiction or movies I highly suggest this one the Buck Rogers and the 25th Century collection this one is amazing I like it pick one of these up from Kino Lorber support them they are doing some amazing work.
