Transcript: Top Christian Movies on DVD and Blu-ray: Warner Archive Releases

Greetings, classic cinema and TV fans. This is Pastor Jay here with you once again, bringing you another countdown video. Today we're counting down the top five Warner Archive releases of 2020. Now 2020 has been really a tumultuous year, a lot of bad stuff going on, and a lot of people are just uncomfortable with what's going on, you know, coronavirus, elections, the whole nine yards, just a lot of social injustice, all kinds of stuff going on. And so it's been a really, really kind of rough year. But the diamond in the rough, if you will, has been the physical media releases. And so we're going to give our top five. Now, Warner Archive did so many great things this year that a lot of them didn't make our list, and it's not because they're bad or anything like that. It's just, you know, five spots, you can't put everything on the list, you know. So these are our top five favorites. Let's jump into the list. I'm a big fan of Gene Roddenberry creator of Star Trek and wow but an amazing sci-fi creator and man Warner Archive did something really special here this was a collection pilots if you will two pilots that he tried to get of a TV series and they have of course it didn't work sadly it would have been a great series it really would have but it's basically about the future which is what Gene Roddenberry usually tried to talk about was the future and this is about Earth in the future here you have Genesis 2 and then you have Planet Earth Both of these were basically like a pilot movie. And the first one did so good that they decided to do another one and see how it worked. And maybe the second one didn't work as well. But I still enjoyed them both. I think they're really, really good. I think this should have been, at least tried to be a series. I think it would have been really, really great. But it didn't happen. It didn't turn into a series. but what we do have is the pilot movies, and wow, these are spectacular. That retro 70s style futuristic thing is just so cool. I love this. On Blu-ray, both movies on Blu-ray, one Blu-ray disc. Now, a lot of people say, why did they both get their own specific release? Well, on a Blu-ray, you don't have to give one movie a one. It's not going to make that much difference is what I'm trying to say. An hour and a half film, two hour and a half films on a Blu-ray disc, there is so much space on a Blu-ray disc that you're not going to lose any quality by putting them both on the one disc. You're not going to gain anything is what I'm trying to say from putting each movie on one disc because these are older films, TV films. So, yeah, it's just not going to prove anything. So that's why they put both on one disc. And I have to say they look spectacular. They're amazing. So that why we gave this release a Gene Roddenberry double feature the number five spot Now who doesn love a little cartoon madness Yeah this is Tex Avery Screwball Classics Volume 1 Now we have since got a Volume 2, but this one ranks number one between the two, in my opinion. And so we've got to put one on the list. And so I like this one. And this one is really, really spectacular, in my opinion. I enjoyed this one very, very much. And so of the two, I put this one on here. But both are amazing. But if you've never seen these old cartoons, where have you been? No, but Warner Archive decided to bring back some of those old classic cartoons featuring Droopy and all the old classic cartoons from the MGM era. And, man, they restored these things, and they look spectacular. They are amazing. They look just mind-blowingly amazing. I mean, I just can't put it into words how great they really are. You get all these different cartoons. They're on one disc. You're getting a little over two hours here, and two hours on one Blu-ray disc is plenty. they look amazing and really really great great stuff we talked a lot about that you can check one of our other videos our flashback Friday video about the Tex Avery collection if you want to so we're not going to go deep into that I did want to put this on our list so the Tex Avery Screwball Classics Volume 1 ranks number 4 in the top 5 releases of 2020 for more in our archive Now in 2019, we got something that I never thought we would ever see, which was the miniseries V. I never thought we would see that on Blu-ray, but we got it. We got the miniseries V, the original miniseries, I should say, V on Blu-ray. it was remade into a TV series later on but this was the original miniseries V and wow stellar stuff but the thing was this is not where it ended V was not where it ended no we got V the Final Battle as a miniseries too but would we ever see it on Blu-ray 2020 came along Amen And we got V The Final Battle on Blu-ray Wow Two Blu-rays And the reason for that is because The original miniseries was Two night And then this was a three night event So there was more So that's why they gave us two Blu-rays on this one But this is an amazing Amazing amazing miniseries. This is where Earth fights back. And we love it. Yeah, so this is a great, great release. Warner Archive really does give the fans what they're looking for. It would have been terrible if we got V the original miniseries and never got V the final battle, but thankfully we got both of them now. And that's why we decided to put the V, the final battle on our top five releases of 2020 coming in at number three. All right now for me I not old enough to remember the old shows from the 70s and the 80s In the 80s I was just a small child and so I didn get the chance to really really watch a lot of the shows But in the 70s man I wasn even there But I still love those old shows. And I remember a show from the 80s, watching them in the 90s when I'd gotten old enough. I remember watching a show that was on reruns, and I never thought we would ever see it come to physical media. Well, you know what? Warner Archive surprised me. Yet again, with something very, very special, and that is we got this year two seasons of Head of the Class. Boy, I love this show. I'm a big fan of Howard Hessman. And he played Dr. Johnny Fever in WKRP in Cincinnati, one of my favorite shows. Being a radio DJ, if you will, I enjoy watching WKRP in Cincinnati. Well, I remember seeing this show later in reruns, and I fell in love with him as a substitute teacher becoming an actual teacher. and I just love his way. Completely different from what he was in WKRP in Cincinnati. Just an amazing difference. And I would never have dreamed we would get Head of the Class on DVD. Warner Archive pleasantly surprised me by releasing the first season and the second season on DVD. Now, all we got to get is the rest of them. Hopefully, we will get that in 2021. But these are so much fun. They're 80s retro. They're just so amazing. I really enjoy these. I had to give this the second spot because this is just a classic sitcom. It's basically Welcome Back, Cotter in reverse. That's kind of what it is. because if you go back to Welcome Back, Cotter, Welcome Back, Cotter was a teacher teaching slackers, if you will. Here, a teacher is teaching the intellectuals, but it's still a lot of fun, and I just love it. This is great. So hopefully we get the next few seasons this year in 2021. one. We'll see, but I hope so. This is why we put Head of the Class season one and two number two on our top five releases from Warner Archive of 2020. Warner Archive has done some amazing things with animation. I've been absolutely surprised with the amazing good stuff they've done. They have brought back the classic superhero cartoons from the 90s, and they gave us the complete series of Justice League Unlimited on Blu-ray. Wow. We also got Teen Titans, the complete Teen Titans series, including the Teen Titans movie on Blu-ray last year. Wow. What an amazing thing. It has been amazing. Well, in 2020, early 2020, they gave us yet another superhero series, and it is the Legion of Superheroes. This was a TV series from in the universe if you will of Justice League and Teen Titans and all It kind of in that same universe if you will And this basically is the Legion of Superheroes in the future and they bring Superman from the past into the future, a young Superman from the past into the future, and kind of help bring him along to make him who he becomes. And we see so many different characters, so much great stuff. I didn't think we would ever see Legion of Superheroes on Blu-ray. I really didn't. Because, for the simple reason, first time around, full disclosure, first time around, when this came along, I wasn't a big, huge fan of it. And I don't know why. But I wasn't. I like Teen Titans. I love the Justice League, but this one just didn't resonate with me as much, for some reason. Then when Warner Archive decided to release this and we got the chance to review it, I was like, this isn't as bad as I thought. Now, is it as great as Teen Titans and Justice League? Probably not. It has a really, really good storyline. There's a lot of really great cartoon action and stuff, but I think it does doesn't quite hit the Justice League, in my opinion, but I'm still watching this entire series now, and reviewing it, and all, I really found a lot of love for this one, it really is really, really great stuff, and so coming back around full circle, and watching it for second time and kind of watching the entire series, I have to say, I've kind of fallen in love with it. It is really, really great. It's a great series. And, you know, to get the complete collection, the complete series, three Blu-ray discs, the complete collection, the complete series on Blu-ray, yeah, this is super. And yeah, I know what I did there. But this is super. It deserves number one. So yeah, I just think Warner Archive has done an amazing thing this year. Now, there are so many great releases that Warner Archive did this year that could make a top five. but we want you to go to warnerarchive.com go check out all the amazing stuff they've done in 2020 I think you're going to find many things you'll want to add to your collection very very good stuff and so we just want to say to warnerarchive keep up the amazing work and keep sending those releases keep giving the physical media fans what we desire, what we want which is physical media I like digital, don't get me wrong But there's nothing like having the physical media in your hands It's so cool So that's our top 5 list of 2020 from Warner Archive What was your favorite release from Warner Archive this year?
