Transcript: Christian Movie Analysis: The Final Countdown (4K, Blu-ray)

Greetings Classic Cinema TV fans, this is Jason Lockhart, Pastor Jay here with you once again on this Classic Cinema Plus exclusive video feature, the Silver Screen Spotlight. And today we're spotlighting a new release from Blue Underground, and it is absolutely stunning. This is the 4K release of an amazing science fiction film called The Final Countdown, featuring the great Kirk Douglas. The Final Countdown kind of has a feel of the Twilight Zone, if you will. Basically what it is, it's about the crew of this Navy battleship, and they are, through an interesting event, I'm not going to go into great detail, they're thrown back into time to just a few hours before the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. So this is a very unique film in that the captain, who's played by Kurt Douglas, has to come to terms on whether he needs to try to change history or whether he leaves history alone. It really has a very Twilight Zone feel to it. Now some people have remarked that in a very disparaging way saying that it a long episode of The Twilight Zone To me I say it lovingly it a long episode of The Twilight Zone because I a huge fan of The Twilight Zone To me I say it lovingly it a long episode of the Twilight Zone It um because I a huge fan of the Twilight Zone I love that original uh Rod Serling uh, TV series. It's one of my favorites. And, uh, so, so seeing this kind of, uh, tale, um, it really, uh, is something special. I really love it. Blue Underground, wow, they put so much love into this release. It is insane. First off, you get this lenticular cover. Look at that. If you can see, I mean, there is just, that is just beautiful. You can just, maybe you can see it in the video there, how it moves. That's pretty cool. But you get the lenticular cover, which is so awesome. And then you get different artwork here. Very cool. Now, if you like this artwork, This also is on the inside as well. You can get it this way as well. It's two different covers, but I like having a different cover, so that's why we went with the other one. But that is so cool. That lenticular cover is just gorgeous. Then what is really cool about this is the discs in this thing. We're going to show you. This is unbelievable. You get the Blu-ray and the Ultra HD. Very cool. And then look at that. The complete soundtrack on CD. Unbelievable. The motion picture soundtrack on CD as well. Oh my goodness, this is an amazing release. So cool. you get a booklet filled with all kinds of info about the film very very awesome all kinds of stuff we don go through all that because don have time to do all that but it is really cool got a big thick booklet full of all kinds of awesome stuff included in this release you get all kinds of bonus features including an audio commentary by director of photography Victor Kemper you get interviews trailers TV spots posters and galleries. You get all kinds of awesome stuff. All of this in here. Just amazing. I'm going to tell you something. This, and I should point out, this is, it's a little more adult, if you will. It's not for the kids, of course. Twilight Zone was a little more, while it had some scary times in certain episodes, It was more family friendly. This one does have some adult language in it. So that's something you have to kind of watch about a little bit. But it's not overly bad in comparison to some films. But this one is just so, so cool. And wow, a special, special thanks to Blue Underground and MVD for sending this one our way. I mean, wow, it's just amazing. and we had to spotlight it. It is just so cool. Not only is Kurt Douglas in this, but a very young Martin Sheen is in this as well, which is very, very cool. Also, Charles Durning is in this, and so many amazing actors. Now, for this release, the transfer, it is absolutely stunning. It's gorgeous. This one when you look at it in comparison to other releases there no comparison this thing is like off the wall crazy amazing it just that the thing looks so spectacular it is it's just it's just amazing it really is it's just amazing how spectacular it looks in comparison to the other ones that that have been been released. So, yeah, I definitely suggest if you've never seen the Final Countdown and you want to check this out, definitely get it from Blue Underground. It is a tremendous release. It is probably one of the best things I've seen from Blue Underground. And I'm going to tell you, it is pretty amazing. So, yeah, we wanted to just spotlight Blue Underground today because they really deserve it for this release. It is that amazing.
