Greetings, classic cinema and TV fans. This is Jason Lockhart, Pastor Jay here with you once again. And today, we're on another Flashback Friday, and we're flashing back in time. I was a young teenager when this show that we're going to talk about today was on the air. And I have vivid memories of this show, watching it and just being thrilled with the adventures. And I want to talk about it, and it is back here on the shelf. It is right here. This is the show. Now, the show was part of Nickelodeon. Nickelodeon was a network. We're still Nick. But anyway, Nickelodeon back in the day was for teenagers and young kids, and it had all kinds of amazing content on there. I mean, you had, which I can't believe, but you had Ren and Stimpy, which Ren and Stimpy was more, you know, really a lot more adult than people really realized it in the day. But anyway, you had Ren and Stimpy, you had Rugrats, you had shows like You Can't Do That on Television. You got all these different types of shows. And one of the shows that I absolutely loved was Hey Dude. Wow, I remember this show so vividly. I remember all the characters. I remember everything about it. Just so amazing. the Bardun Dude Ranch. A bunch of kids come in every summer to just kind of help out at the Dude Ranch and people would come in and pretend to be cowboys. And, you know, just awesome stuff. Mr. Ernst, the nerdy looking guy from New York that wants to be a cowboy. So he buys a Dude Ranch. And he's so right there you can see Mr Ernst If I can get without the light on right there is Mr Ernst And that man is look at that 10 hat I always loved it. That 10-gallon hat, just so awesome. Made famous by Haas Cartwright, I believe. I believe that's where it really became... if anybody sees that type of hat, they think of Haas Cartwright, in my opinion. But anyway, but yeah, I mean, Shout Factory released this entire series on this DVD. Oh, my goodness. When I came across this, I was at Walmart quite a few years ago, and I came across this, and I saw the whole series here, and it was like $20, $25, and I was like, you've got to be kidding me. $25 for 65 episodes. I was like, yes, please. Yeah, I mean, unbelievable. It is a really, really cool show. Just the adventures of all the kids at the Bar Nun Dude Ranch. And, yeah, great stuff. Just great stuff. Love it. There were five seasons in total. And I guess the thing that I, I mean, you know, things happen. You get opportunities. You do different things. And Ted was one of my favorite characters. And Ted left the show for a little bit and then came back. And to me, it lost a little steam at that point. When you take a character out and you put somebody else in and you try to bring that character back again, it just kind of doesn't quite, it loses a little bit of the steam, you know. But I still love it. I still love the show. Just crazy. Craziness. Craziness. Now, I will say, some people would sit there and say about Hey Dude, that it is very, maybe not very racist, but it's got racist tones to it because of the stereotypes and stuff like that. Personally, I don't see the stereotypes being that bad. That's me. Um, but in this day and age in which we're living where we have a lot of that going on that um so so there a lot of shows that are well quote unquote being canceled because of the things that feel a little off insensitive I never felt Hey Dude was insensitive. I felt that they were literally trying to bring truth to the characters, and I was never offended by anything that was there. I mean, that's me. Maybe somebody was, but I never was. I love the show. I always remember the theme song, and there are still days, still days, even after all these years, that I will find myself some days just singing the song in my head. You know, hey, dude, I just, I will find myself singing that song, the theme song. I mean, I loved it. I loved the series. I have to say that Shouse Factory did an amazing job with this. I love this. I love this box here, this big set. There was a thing back in the day for quite a while where companies were doing things really shoddy to where you would have, like, paper sleeves. or I've seen some of the worst being where they actually have like a DVD spindle, like where you would get burnable CDs, the little spindle, and they put them all in there and they shove them in a box. That is the most lazy and disgusting thing I've ever seen in my life. And that is coming from big, big companies. We're talking big companies, and I'm not calling anybody out, but there are big companies that did that, And it is so shoddy and so lazy, in my opinion. Well, thankfully, Shop Factory didn't do that. Every single disc has its own hub. Very awesome and very good. I love it. It's just a great, great set. I love the fact that on the inside cover, you get all of the episodes. So you know what episodes you're looking for, and you can find it. That's pretty cool. It's right on there. I just love it. I love this set. It is so cool. And, you know, if you were a fan of Nickelodeon back in the day like I was, this probably does have a lot of special place in your heart. Me personally, I guess the reason this holds a special place in my heart because I was just a young teenager at the time and I had a big crush on Melody I really did I had a big crush on her I thought she was very very pretty And I was always a fan So yeah But the show was just awesome. And I loved it so much. And I still love it. Still love it. I mean, as I picked this up, and I binged this entire DVD. This whole series of DVDs. Watched the whole thing and went through them all and sat there. and I still love them after all these years. And it's not just nostalgia. Some people will say, oh, that's nostalgia. No, it's not nostalgia. I actually enjoyed the episodes. I thought they were really still a lot of fun, and they still hold up. So I'm excited about it. If you love Nickelodeon shows, if you're a fan of those old shows, if you grew up with them, yeah, definitely pick up Hey Dude, the complete series, if you can find it. It is so good. I highly recommend this DVD set. It is so, so very awesome. And thanks to Shout Factory for releasing this amazing set so that I could check it out and have it for generations to come. I can share it with my family and let them see what I saw when I was a kid and what I grew up with. And Hey Dude stays relevant in my house after all these years. So thank you to Shout Factory for releasing this. I'm hoping more great Nickelodeon shows. Maybe it will come out soon. Maybe, just maybe, we never know. Maybe we get a whole box set of, let's see, maybe we get a whole box set of like Drake and Josh. That would be awesome. Maybe, let's see, iCarly would be nice. You can't do that on television. Wow. You can't do that on DVD. That would be awesome. So many awesome shows. What would you like to see come out from Shout Factory on the Nickelodeon shows? Let us know in the comments below. Be sure to like, share, and subscribe. Thanks for watching. Until we see you next time with another Flashback Friday, This is Jason Lockard wishing you a blessed day and go check out Hey Dude.
