Transcript: Jesus Teaches the Sermon on the Mount: Bible Lessons and Sermons

This is what Jesus told the people in the well-known sermon he gave on a mountain. Happy are the merciful, for they will be forgiven. Happy are those with a clean heart, for they will see God. Happy are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. Happy are the persecuted, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. If people treat you bad or persecute you because you belong to me, be happy. You will be rewarded in heaven. You are the salt of the earth. As food is tasteless without salt, something is missing if you are not in the world. If salt itself becomes tasteless and you can't spice anything with it, what is it good for? You simply have to throw it away. You are the light of the world. You can see a city that is built on a hill from far away. Does anyone put a lamp under a bucket? No. You put it in a place where it gives light to the whole room. That's how your light is supposed to shine for everyone to see. By your good deeds, they will get to know your Father in heaven. I did not come to abolish the rules God gave you that we call the law. If you don't follow a single one of them or encourage others to do so, you will not be known in God's kingdom. But if you live according to them, you will be honored. People have told you to not kill anyone so you won't be put to prison. But I tell you, don't be angry with anyone. If you mock someone you will be judged by God If you have a problem with someone sort out your disagreement as quickly as possible People have told you to not commit adultery or to be unfaithful to your spouse But I tell you, don't even imagine having a relationship with a married woman. If you do, you are already committing adultery with your thoughts. Run away from doing bad things and avoid an unhealthy thought life. People have told you, don't break your promises. I tell you, do not make promises. Instead, let your yes be yes and your no be no. People have told you, if someone does something bad to you, you are allowed to do the same to them. I tell you, if someone hits you, do not fight back. If someone tries to steal your scarf, give them your jacket as well. If someone wants you to go with them for one mile, go with them for two miles. Give to everyone who asks of you. People have told you, love your friends and hate your enemies. I tell you, love everyone, even your enemies. As God loves everyone, also love the people that harm you. This is how you can show that you are God's children. Beware of helping people just because you want to be admired. If you give money to someone, don't be showy, making sure that everyone sees what you have done. Instead, give it to them secretly so that no one sees what you have done. God knows what your motivation is when you help others and will reward you for it. If you want to talk to God, look for a place where you can be alone with Him. Don't speak in big religious words like people who don't really know God. He is not impressed by that and will not hear you more if you sound spiritual. No, he is your father and he knows what you need. With him, you can be totally honest. If you do need help on how to pray, here is what you can say. Our Father in heaven you shall be honored do it as best and do on earth as it is done in heaven Give us everything we need today and forgive us for what we have done wrong Help us to forgive the people that have done something bad to us, and protect us from being tested, and keep us safe from all evil. If you forgive others, God will also forgive you. If you are not willing to forgive others, God will not forgive you. If you give up something for God, don't show everyone how hard the sacrifice has been for you. It is not important to look religious in front of other people. Do it secretly, so no one will know. God sees your sacrifice and will reward you. Do not collect wealth on earth. Wealth can easily be stolen, and once you die, you won't be able to take anything with you anyway. It is better to collect treasures in heaven, treasure that no one will be ever able to steal. Where your treasure is, that is where your heart will also be. It is impossible to work for two bosses. You can either work for money and wealth, or you can live for God. Do not worry about what you need to live. Look at the birds. Do they worry about how to survive? God takes care of them every day. Do you really think that just because you worry, you are able to make your life even one day longer? I mean, look at the flowers. They don't even care how they look, and yet they are still beautiful. If God takes care of the flowers, flowers that will be cut down tomorrow, how much more will he take care of you? People who don't know God spend all of their time worrying about these things. But God knows you and will give you everything that you need. Do not judge others so that you will not be judged. You will be judged by exactly the same harshness you judge others Why do you want to remove the splinter in someone else eye while you have a branch in yours Take care of your own issues before you go around telling others about theirs. Ask for something and it will be given to you. Search and you will find. Knock and the door will be opened to you. Everyone who asks will receive. Everyone who searches will find. Everyone who knocks, the door will be opened. Would anyone give their children a stone if they ask for bread? Would anyone give their children a snake if they ask for a fish? If you give your children what they ask for, even though you are selfish, How much more will your Heavenly Father give you when you ask? Remember, treat everyone how you would want to be treated. Go through the narrow gate. The wide door and the wide street end in despair. Many people go this way because it seems easier. The door that leads to life is narrow and is the path. Only a few people are able to find it. There will be people who will tell you wrong things about God. You will find out who they are by their fruit. Does a thorn bush grow apples? No, a good tree can't grow bad fruit, and a bad tree can't grow good fruit. It is the same with bad people. Do not listen to them. A person calling me great master all the time will not get to the kingdom of God. However, someone who listens to my words and follows them will. Many people will come and tell me that they did great signs and wonders in my name. I will tell them that I don't know them and send them away.
