Greetings, classic cinema and TV fans. This is Jason Lockhart, Pastor Jay, here with you once again. Today, we're bringing you another top seven list. This time around, the top seven comedy westerns. Let's jump into the list. The Apple Dumpling Gang and the Apple Dumpling Gang rides again. The reason we're putting them together is because they are a double feature, if you will. It's the original and the sequel. They're like peanut butter and jelly. They go together. You've got to watch them. I love it. It's about Tim Conway and Don Knotts, two crazy Old West characters just trying to get ahead, but they want to come up with a name because they're outlaws. and they come up with the idea of the apple dumpling gang and it is just so much fun uh both of these films are just filled with a lot of fun of don knots and tim conway just being crazy i love these films these are classic disney films and you don't get much better than classic disney and uh yeah so um we had to put the classic disney apple dumpling gang on the list at number seven alias jesse james bob hope was an icon in films i mean just an icon and uh this one is probably one of his uh better uh westerns one of his better westerns uh i i love him he's done he's done he's done so many different films in his career and uh this one just is uh really really special uh the The hilarity in this stuff, the absurdity in this film about a man that is basically an insurance salesman and sells a life insurance policy to Jesse James. And now he has to try to make sure Jesse James doesn't die. And he ends up trying to dress up like Jesse James. And it's crazy and off the wall. And it's hilarious. And, yeah, Bob Hope at his funniest. And the final scenes of this film is just something to be seen, to be believed. It is just unbelievable. It is a great, great film. It comes in at number six. Cat Baloo. I love this film. All about a girl named Cat Baloo who wants to avenge her father's death. and she hires a gunslinger to help her and all this type of stuff And it just off the wall It crazy Lee Marvin is insane in this part in this film The whole thing is just off the wall crazy. Jane Fonda is amazing in this. Lee Marvin is spectacular in this. The whole thing is just, it's hard to put into words how crazy this film really is, but it is crazy in the most awesome way. And it just keeps you laughing all through the thing and keeps you entertained all the way through. Kapaloo is just amazing. That's why we put it in number five. Another Bob Hope. So we're going to do a double feature here again because it is a two-parter, if you will. It's part one, and then it's the sequel. We're talking about Paleface and the Son of Paleface. Paleface is found in this collection, and then the Son of Paleface is here in this collection. It's all about a guy who is a dentist wanting to work in the Old West, and he gets caught in all of the drama of the Old West and has to try to become the hero. And, of course, we're talking about Bob Hope here, you know. So you can imagine the hilarity that is in both of these films. In the second film, he plays the son of Paleface, and he yet is Paleface yet again, but he's the son of Paleface. It's strange, but it's hilarious, and it's awesome. and anything Bob Hope did was amazing, but these are just spectacular. They're so good together, just like the previous ones, the Apple Dumbling Gang. That's why we have to put them together here, both together, because they're just, if you're going to watch one, you need to watch the other one. It's just that good. All right, so that's why we put Son of Paleface and the original Paleface here on the list. The shakiest gun in the West. This kind of reminds me a lot of Paleface in the fact that Don Knotts plays a dentist that wants to go to the Old West. It kind of has the same feel. And yet, while it has the same feel and while it has kind of a similar story, it still is an amazing take. You have Bob Hope doing his type of comedy and then you've got Don Knotts doing his type of comedy. And they both do it in such a unique way that they both come out so awesome that it's just a great film. I love The Shakiest Gun in the West. I cannot tell you how much I enjoy this film It is just so spectacular I love it I watched it many many times and I watch it many many more times before I pass away I know I will because it is so fun Shakiest Gun in the West comes in at number three coming in at number two oh yes the villain now many of you may have never seen this film uh this is actually one of those type of films that if you've never seen you really really need to search it out and see it it is so hilarious it is so fun it is so amazing it's just off the wall. And yes, you're seeing there Arnold Schwarzenegger. Yes. In a western. Yes. Now you would expect Kirk Douglas, but Arnold Schwarzenegger? We're talking about the Terminator here. Yes, and the Terminator. We're talking about Arnold West. Arnold in the Old West. Yes, that's what we're talking about. It's crazy. But it's crazy in the most amazing way. I think what makes the villain so spectacular is that this film is sort of like Looney Tunes in live action. And I'm not kidding. When I say that, I am not kidding you. The villain, played by Kurt Douglas, is like the coyote. and Margaret and Arnold Schwarzenegger are trying to get from one place to the other and he's chasing them and every time he turn around, he's doing something just like the coyote would do, including even at one point painting a big black tunnel on the side of a mountain and Anne Margaret and Schwarzenegger go through it, and then he tries to run through and goes and smashes right into it. It is Looney Tunes in live action. It is so hilarious. The film is just off the wall. It's crazy. It's hilarious. And it truly deserves number two on our list. This is probably my favorite Western comedy of all time. and I love the villain as we just talked about just as much but I don't know this one just kind of edges it out to me just a little bit because I love James Garner's take on this character um he just a a drifter coming in on his way to Australia and uh he stops by this town that is in upheaval and they looking for a sheriff to kind of hold down the the gang of family that is just kind of ravaging the town and they looking for somebody that can can kind of quiet everything down and he finally decides well i can make a little money by being the town sheriff uh while i make my way before i make my way to australia and uh yeah the interesting thing about James Garner in this role of support your local sheriff is the fact of his cool, calm demeanor in everything that goes on. Walter Brennan plays the father of the family, and he comes in while they're building this, they built this jail cell, and he, James Garner arrested one of the boys and he put him in the jail and he said you stay right there and he said there ain't no bars and he said i know we'll put him in he said you expect me to stay in this jail with no bars and yes i do you know it's it's it's just calm cool demeanor and the dad comes in uh walter brennan comes in and he pulls a gun on him and puts it right in his face and james garner looks up and goes and sticks his finger right in the end of the barrel of the gun you know, just so calm and cool, just whatever and even in the final, there's this final scene of the battle between him and some of the members of the community and the warring family and at one point he has to get from one side of the street to the other and he gets up and he comes across and he goes hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on, stop stop and he starts walking across the street and he goes just hold on everybody stops he just keeps walking across and he hold on he gets clear to the other side and he says okay now you can go ahead it's a hilarious film probably one of it is definitely my favorite western comedy of all time I love it so yeah that's our top 7 list what is your favorite western comedy of all time Let us know in the comments below.
