Greetings Classic Cinema and TV fans, this is Jason Locker and Pastor Jay here with you once again and this time around we are bringing you another silver screen spotlight and we are going dum-dum-dum-dum-dum-dum-dum-dum. We're talking about Dragnet. Yes, we're talking about Dragnet. Probably one of the most iconic cop shows of all time. Everybody knows that. Dum-dum-dum-dum. Everybody knows that. Even if you've never watched a show, you know that. and probably maybe some of you that are watching this has never even seen the actual original Dragnet which is a shame but maybe you remember the movie Dragnet with Tom Hanks and Dan Aykroyd found on this collection here this we had to pick up because it's Tom Hanks who doesn't want some Tom Hanks in their life But anyway, that third film on there is Dragnet. Yeah, but maybe you remember seeing that film, but you've never watched the original Dragnet. Well, that's a shame. Definitely should. We picked up some off of the shelf. We're not going to pick up everything, of course, but maybe you remember some of the original Dragnet like this. You know, the old classic black and white Dragnets that were just so amazing. Just great stuff. Or maybe you remember, and this of course had Joe Friday with Frank Smith as his partner. Or maybe you remember this dragnet this version of dragnet the color dragnet that had Joe Friday with Frank Gannon I don know However you remember watching Dragnet or if you never have watch some And the cool thing about Dragnet is many of those shows are in the public domain, so you can experience them for free on YouTube or different places, archive.org, different places where they're public domain. You can check them out. Really, you should. It's really a great series. But, yeah, Dragnet. But we're not talking about the TV show because this is Silver Screen Spotlight. Not Small Screen Spotlight. This is Silver Screen Spotlight. And so we're talking about a release from Kina Lorber. We're going back a little bit to a release that they did. And I just love this one. I love this one so much that I was like, you know what? We've got to spotlight this one. We've got to put a spotlight on this and let you know about this because it is just a great, great release. And that is the Dragnet movie, the original Dragnet movie with Jack Webb. This is spectacular. King of Lorber, Studio Classics. Wow, what an amazing job with this. basically this is Frank Smith and Joe Friday they're trying to find a way to catch a mobster to trap him to bring him to justice and the interesting thing about this is most of the time it is the two guys together doing their thing well in the movie they made it pretty cool they brought in a very tough police woman police detective to kind of help along the way and she's played by Ann Robinson and wow what a great little film. Just amazing stuff. I love this artwork here. This artwork is just absolutely stellar on that release That is just gorgeous When you look at that you just sit there and you know you in for something amazing when you see that That just gorgeous Gorgeous artwork And the cool thing about this release too is that Keanu Lorber did something really really special with this release The original movie release of Drying Net. They did something very, very special. And I love this, and I want to share it with you. They give you not only the TV version, the full screen type version, but they also give you the widescreen version too. So you get both versions of the film, which is so amazing. You also get audio commentaries and you get the theatrical trailer. Just amazing stuff. Love it so very much. As you can see the back there, you can see some of the stills. so that's pretty cool the stills from the actual film are there and that looks pretty amazing this was made in 1954 so this is right when Dragnet was hitting it's prime when it was really popping and people were excited and everything and they got this idea to do a film version and they made this film version and wow this thing has not been seen for years and it's just so amazing to actually have it and to actually have it on blu-ray is just amazing and like i said this this um the quality of this is like out of this world it looks absolutely spectacular i don't know if i've ever seen um i've never seen this film of course before this uh so i can't compare it but i'm sure uh that when people were watching it on the TV screens or whatever. It didn't look this good. This looks absolutely amazing. The quality of the picture is so beautiful. There's that grittiness that is Dragnet, but it is a very prettiness that comes with the Blu The colors are great The audio is clear I mean it just amazing It really is a great great release And I do highly suggest if you have never seen Dragnet, first off, go to the internet, go somewhere, go on your Roku or whatever, and search out some episodes of Dragnet. They're in the public domain. Check them out first. that is going to be your introduction and you are going to want to see that then I so highly suggest picking up King of Lorber Studio Classics version of Dragnet this Blu-ray, it is so spectacular, it is worthwhile it is so worthwhile I'm so glad that we have this up on the Classic Cinema Plus archives right on the shelf there for everyone to see, it is just so cool.
