Transcript: Christian Movie Analysis: Ghosts of Mars by John Carpenter

Greetings Classic Cinema and TV fans, this is Jason Lockhart here with you once again and today is an interesting day because today is the 20th anniversary of the release of John Carpenter's Ghosts of Mars. Today is, of course, the 24th of August on 2021, and this is the 20th anniversary. 20 years ago today, the film Ghosts of Mars was released. Now, that is a very, very interesting thing. A 20-year anniversary? Wow. That is something special. Now, we all know John Carpenter. I'm pretty sure every film fan knows John Carpenter, whether you know him from the films of Halloween or probably his most iconic, the one that probably everybody knows is The Thing. It is just, wow. This one is the iconic one, in my opinion. This is the one that probably everybody... If you don't know John Carpenter, you know the thing. You've at least seen some of the clips of the thing, or you know something of this film. It's inbred in our psyche. We know John Carpenter from that. or you know Michael Myers from the Halloween movies, that iconic white mask. However you know John Carpenter, we all know John Carpenter. But John Carpenter directed a film in 2001, and it was entitled Ghosts of Mars. It was a sci-fi horror film. Ghosts of Mars basically deals with a group of police in the future that are set to go to Mars to pick up a prisoner and transport him But when they get there they find that the whole outpost is gone I mean everybody gone I mean it's deserted. Nobody's there. And they come to find out that some of the inhabitants are not as they seem, shall we say. Yeah, they are different. Let's just go that way. We're not going to spoil it. We don't want to spoil it too much. But wow, what an amazing film. This is the Blu-ray release of Ghosts of Mars from Mill Creek Entertainment. This was released a few years ago, but we had to spotlight it again because it is the 20th anniversary of the release of this film. How do you not spotlight that on the 20th anniversary of the release of this film? This is just, you have to. You have to spotlight it. 20 years, you can't bypass that. It's just too amazing. Yeah, this is a tremendous film. I think what makes this so awesome for me is simply because right there, Ice Cube is in this film. That's stellar. That's just too good to pass up. That's one of them times you just sit there and say, I don't care what the film is. I don't care. It's got Ice Cube in it, man. You know? You watch it because it's Ice Cube, man, in my opinion. But anyway, it's kind of a fun little film. Now, I must say it is not for the entire family. Absolutely not. This film is very, very adult. It's got a lot of adult language. There's a pretty good chunk of violence in it. Of course, it's horror. I mean, what do you expect? you're you're gonna have violence in horror films uh that's that's what it is and plus if you watch john carpenter you know what you're gonna get you know it's it's that um but i think what makes this really cool for me is um beyond being in hd you know this release on a Blu HD all that kind of good stuff with a 5 DTS HD audio and all that kind of good stuff And besides it looking amazing on Blu-ray via Mill Creek Entertainment, but this is what makes this so cool. The bonus features on this disc are pretty cool. You get audio commentary. Now, amazingly, you get the audio commentary with director John Carpenter. Well, that's enough right there. That's enough right there. You get an audio commentary with John Carpenter on this film right here, that's enough to buy it right there. You get video diaries Red Desert Nights Video diary segment About all of the shooting And all that kind of good stuff That's pretty cool You get a featurette Scoring Ghosts of Mars Wow, please And then you get a special effects Deconstruction type thing Where they show you all the special effects And how they made it work I mean it's just wow, this release is really, really cool. And like I said, on the 20th anniversary of it, we had to spotlight Ghost of Mars. You can't not. I mean, you're talking 20-year anniversary, man. That's just too good not to spotlight. But yeah, this is a fun little film. There is some things, like I said, there is some things in it that is not for everybody. But also what is pretty cool in this is Pam Greer is in this, and that is another reason to pick this up. If for no other reason, if you don't pick it up for the fact that you get Ice Cube, you definitely got to pick it up because Pam Greer is in this. That's just, you know, come on. I mean, please. But, yeah, the action is really awesome. The story is pretty well told and Ice Cube is amazing of course. Natasha is amazing in this. Pam Greer is Pam Greer, come on. Everything is just awesome and like I said Mill Creek did a great job with this I love this release And I just we had to just kind of spotlight it on the 20th anniversary because it's just too good not to. So, yeah, if you love Ghosts of Mars, if you've got Ghosts of Mars in your collection, definitely just check it out today or whenever you're watching this video. Check it out and enjoy Ghosts of Mars. It is so worth it. If you love those old horror films, those horror films from the 2000s, I shouldn't say old. It's really not. Although it is old, wow. You know, we think of old films and we think of films from the 30s, but let's be honest now. You think of a film now that was made in 2001 and it's 20 years old and it's like, wow, how old are we getting? We're getting so old. But, man, that is so awesome, though. Yeah, so it's the 20th anniversary of Ghosts of Mars, so definitely check it out. And I do highly suggest checking out the Mill Creek edition of Ghosts of Mars.
