Transcript: Forgiveness and Memory: Do We Forget Sins of Others When We Forgive?

Praise Lord my dear brothers and sisters a warm welcome to one and all of you and I greet you in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. It's always my privilege, my pleasure where we are staying together in the name of Jesus and according to me there can't be a very important task other than meditating from the word of God. meditating the word of God simply means it's not simply you know glancing or reading it from a traditional aspect many people while I was a Catholic traditional aspect whenever I leave my home and we doing like this it's like you know putting that cross in the air and or Jesus would be kept on the top just you know I didn't the idol tree and the statue of Jesus Mary Joseph all will be kept on the top i'll be saying like this and something like that it's not the traditional aspect of um showing who you are to god it's a funny thing uh but then it's all about what is inside of you you will have to be manifested as a christian as a christian in the sense your lifestyle is nothing but worship right what you what you think about god is nothing but what you exhibit of you, right, out of you, what comes out of you, the words of your mouth, the reactions of your face, the anger in your eyes or the love of your eyes, right, when a challenging situation comes, how is that you are going to position your expressions will determine whether you are walking in the image of Christ or not, you have the Christ-like mindset or not. And this is where most of the Christians, they slip off, all right. We are all human beings, we learn we make mistakes but we learn from the mistakes is what I'm trying to say okay so once again a warm welcome where we are dealing from the word of God short sessions and that's why we are going for this recording every day and we are trying our best to see I'm just taking off this pillow we are trying our best to see what what what we could learn from the word of God together and that's why you know it's like a casual talk and I'm not wearing suit and thies and this and that right i don't want that again external manifestation means nothing to me how much we learn from the word of god it really matters now here one interesting word of god i'm going to read for you hebrews 8 12 today's concept is we are going to talk about this law of forgiveness what is your understanding on this concept of forgiveness as a doctrine or as a theological concept or as a philosophical concept or maybe it is even kind of a traditional concept, right? In Tamil, it is something like, you know, mannipom marapom, right? You forgive and forget, but that's where I have a problem. You will be able to forgive, but you will not be able to forget. And we are going to discuss much on those lines. What do you mean, brother? If you are forgiven, you are forgotten. No, you won't forget. Why? Because your memory is so strong. Your brains are so so strong with the capacity of the hard disk. It is able to retain all the old memories, bad memories, good memories, everything until your last breath. yeah aging really matters you know some people after the age of 75 80 I have you know my wife's grandmother at the age of 90 she forgot who she who she was and she forgot even to identify her own daughters and sons and that happens due to aging but otherwise the brain is having a strong capacity to retain all the memories and therefore I don't agree with the fact that once you forgive you are going to forget no when you see that brother whom you have forgiven when you see that sister whom you have forgiven you will obviously recollect and recap every single thing that they have done against you don't you I I do right let's be honest to each other because that's a fact that's the truth they can go and consult any medical science people or medical doctors your general physician or your family doctors and he would say even I also have the same problem although I am a doctor. You can go and check out. Right. So the point here is like it's not about the forgetting stuff. Right. It's not tightly intercoupled. It's not proportional. Forgiveness is not proportional to you know forgetting things. It doesn't erase. It's exactly the point I'm trying to make. But how much of it when it comes to your memory on the subject in which you have taken that stand you are going to forgive that brother which means you are not going to recollect and enjoy Now what happens is when you get into this doctrine of forgiving by heart not by mind right by mind you forgive then what happens is I going to read the scriptures and explain I'm setting the context setting the base by mind if you forgive versus by heart if you forgive the differences we need to understand then only will understand about this forgetting aspect we will we will mix it slowly all right you finding it interesting or not right these are the facts which you don't get it in the outside world or maybe people are talking 10 different things but we will talk the right thing we also talk 10 different things but we will stick to the right thing forgiving by mind is you have forgiven for that moment but the next time when you see that brother you will start from where you have left which means what you will re-trigger all your emotions you will re-trigger all the brother had committed against you again we are talking under the concept of whoever have committed their sins they wronged against you while you are loyal to them they were kind of you know so brutal against you they harassed you for no reasons right and you deserve not to forgive them i'm talking from that subject right if you have done something against them actually you are supposed to go and ask for an apology forgiveness concept itself is invalid right when you have done a something against anyone you deserve to go and ask for an apology it's not the other way around but forgiveness concept itself is valid only when you don't deserve to ask for an apology why because they have sinned against you they have hurt your feelings they have accused you falsely they have spoken blaspheme against you or they slandered you in your absence they spread all matters which are not true at all right then obviously you get triggered with anger you deserve not to forgive correct no you deserve to punish them you deserve to take revenge you deserve to avenge them. You deserve to teach them a good lesson. You deserve to shout at them, abuse them, yell at them. You deserve to do all these things. Yet, you will inculcate Christ-like mindset who made a choice. Always when people came, you know, sinners came, he said, I forgive your sin. When the Son of Man forgives sin on earth, it is honored in the kingdom of heaven. When you bind things and unbind things in the name of Jesus, this heaven honors it. Matthew 18, 18 says that. Right? That's what it means. Now you understood the concept. I mean, when you qualify to forgive others, I'm making it very clear. Now, when you forgive by mind, what happens is only for that moment you are forgiven. Why? Because you are all touched with emotions. The brother came and said sorry and all that. You forgive. Next day morning when the same brother comes or some other fellow comes and reminds you, hey, you know, how can you let go, man? Just like that. You know what a worse crime is this? If I were in your place, then you know what I would have done. You need to tell the guy, I did not get reminded of you and forgive that people. I got reminded of my Christ who had given his life on the cross and I have forgiven him. Forgiving by mind is you did not think of Christ. You thought of your own prestige, your own, because 10 people are watching, you have to forgive them. Or, you know, other people will be judging you because being a Christian, what man? You are not forgiving. You are not walking by the word of God. You are actually scared of those people and therefore you forgive by mind. You all understand that. I am talking in a simple plain language, correct? I am not complicating. I think so. Therefore, when the guy comes and triggers, you start from the place where you have started that brawl or fight and etc. Again, the same emotions, the negative energy comes out of you. and then you slander that person, you gossip against that person, you murmur against that person, you grumble against that person, you curse that person, you fight with that person, you manhandle that person. Probably you will slap him also. What is this called as devil-like attitude, not Christ-like attitude. Forget Christ at all. It's a demonic attitude. This attitude is being governed and managed by demonic wisdom. You want to know much about heavenly wisdom and demonic wisdom go to book of james chapter 3 verses 13 to 18 you read and i have also preached there is a series untamable tongue 10 hours i have spoken only on those five verses it's available i'm giving you reference you are bunch of demons are ruling in you because why demons are the ones who reign or rule by unclean spirits they are unclean in nature unclean uncleanness means you are not you are unforgiving in nature and that is forgive forgiving by mind means that you are not forgiven actually by heart what is what does it mean by forgiving by heart we will deal with that and we'll come back here forgiving by heart is of heavenly wisdom this is the way how christ forgave correct no how christ forgive was good example i take judas is carried the guy was forgiven until the garden of gestimony event That means you think Jesus was unaware of all the sins that he committed all the three and a half years while he was roaming with him Jesus was very much aware he was a stealer he was a thief and he was giving all forgery accounts and he was hiding the accounts he was hiding the money Jesus would ask him what is the money balance because wherever Jesus went offerings were given Jesus, you know, hands it over to Judas Iscariot. He accepts offerings which were given to him gladly. And how many of you believe this? You believe it or not, right? Jesus never went and demanded 10 percentage. How today many people are demanding, you know? I don't name the name of their church, but many people demand 10 percent tithes and 20 percent. Tithe concept is not there in New Testament. I am not getting in there. Some other day we will deal with that, right? wherever jesus went he accepted the offerings and he hands it over to mr judas iscariot who was a treasurer now jesus asks him you know periodically what is the accounts all about man he will be saying 800 dollars but actually the money in the bag would be thousand hundred dollars he will be hiding 300 dollars and the guy was such an idiot he knew that jesus is a prophet jesus can tell anything he knows everything mathematics chemistry formula everything he knows of course he knows what is in the bag also. What an idiot he was. Jesus kept on forgiving. Next day morning again Judas comes. Jesus doesn't get recollected of the past. He forgave him. Even in that last supper he says, what do you want to do? Go ahead and do. And he tells plainly, whomever I am going to dip and give, that was the person. See, only 12 people were there. It's quite audible. How much ever softly Jesus was trying to convey to John. Peter persuaded John. Now go and ask who is that person? How much ever softly Jesus was trying to utter, it is still heard audible. Judas heard that God Jesus forgave. Gesdemony garden. He came and kissed. This is the way how you betray your friend. Which means what? Every single time Judas Iscariot rebelled and transgressed against our Lord Jesus. He did not recollect until that garden of Gesdemony event. And he forgave. But it was Judas Iscariot who was carried by guilt and who made a decision by choice that he would hang himself to death. Because why? one last time you could go and ask no jesus would have forgiven you now you understand what is forgiveness by heart brother what i'm trying to tell you same example we take right if you're forgiven by heart same brother comes and reminds you you know what that guy did how can you forgive him and all that you should tell you know i didn't forgive for your sake i mean this will be your confession what you will be confessing is exactly opposite to what you confessed when you forgive him or forgive that brother by mind now you forgive by heart no you'll be saying the same example You know how Jesus forgave Judas. You know how Jesus forgave Peter who denied him three times. You know how Jesus forgave Mary Magdalene. You know how Jesus forgave prostitute. And all of them became evangelists and missionaries. And whenever they came in front of him, Jesus would not insult them. Come here. Don't I know that you are having seven demons? This is the way how we tend to behave, isn't it? That means what? Forgiveness by mind versus forgiveness by heart. Forgiveness by heart. You will love your brother. You will love your neighbor. as yourself now i am coming to the third important point i didn't even read the scripture this is how time runs you know i will read the scripture now you will understand 10 000 watts bulb will be burning in front of you yeah my light is not very powerful but the light in your head will be so powerful now i will close in another two three minutes okay now the third uh example is whenever the brother comes right in front of you, you, so for example, no, the third example, third point I am trying to make is, when you have committed certain sins, you deserve to go and ask for an apology. Whether that person forgives you or not, trust me, I mean, I am challenging you, you be honest to yourself. Don't you think so? You will forgive yourself. What is the big deal, man? I committed a sin. I went all the way in humility and this guy humiliates me. That means what? You have forgiven yourself and that's why you are making that statement. The guy humiliates me. Why? Because not worthy of a crime. Probably it's worthy of a crime. But then I went all the way to ask for forgiveness. The guy did not forgive. Which means what? It's not about prejudice. It's not about guilt. Sorry, not guilt. It's not about egos. But it's about forgiving yourself. Now I'm coming to Matthew 22 39 love your neighbors as yourself which means what in the same measure you forgive others God is going to forgive you which is mentioned in Matthew 6 14 and I don't remember exactly in which chapter Lord's prayer no as as how I forgive others God forgive me that's a that's Lord prayer what does that mean you forgive yourself but you think million times to forgive somebody God will also treat you the same way He is not going to forgive you at all Why Because our God is righteous He is not God of partiality. He is God of righteousness. He is upright. He is loyal. He is sincere. He judges everyone by law, by doctrine. That's why we are teaching you that law. This law is from the Old Testament. Law of forgiveness. We are dealing through the subject of law of forgiveness. You are all with me so far? Yeah. So the third concept is like as much as you forgive yourself, you forgive others. Next time even if your heart reminds, Satan will also remind you, hey did you not commit a sin against this person? So what? I went and asked for forgiveness? No. So I went and apologized? No. That means what? You have forgiven yourself. That's why you are so very clear in this concept of that you are forgiven. you have forgiven yourself the same concept applies when you forgive others by heart you will make that statement when Satan remains it reminds you or somebody reminds you you know what he did 20 years ago 20 years ago itself I forgotten sorry I have forgiven okay but whenever the person crosses what happens that memory will remind you that this not person commit sin against you this is this is not person commit a crime against you you would say I have forgiven Yeah, I cannot forget because memory is like that. You all are with me. Now let us read the scripture and we will close. Now you will understand very clearly. That's why I took enough time. Hebrews chapter 8 verse 12. Let's read it together. Okay. For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness and their sins and their lawless deeds. I will remember no more. you know what is the power behind these two words no more no more means what in that he says a new covenant he has made the first obsolete now what is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to vanish away yeah i want you to also read the actual meaning behind this law of forgiveness i'll take one extra minute please matthew 5 43 these are the mannerism you know to forgive others you have heard it, you shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy. That is Old Testament, Old Covenant. Hate your enemy. But Jesus gives a new law. That's a new law of forgiveness. I am connecting it, Hebrews 8.12 with Matthew 5.44. But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you. All you, you, you, persecute you, spitefully use you. That you may be the sons of your Father in heaven, for he makes his son rise on the evil and on the good. And since reign on the just and the unjust, God treats everyone equally because all of them are being begotten by God. All of them are children of God. Similar way, you've got to treat others. Right? That's what he says. But if you love those who love you, what reward have you? Don't even the tax collectors do the same. Tax collectors means those days, they were the worst of the sinners.
