Transcript: Understanding the Cross in Christianity: Biblical Significance and Meaning

Dear brothers and sisters, greetings to you in the name of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. And we have come to this final episode on the Holy Spirit, concept of the Holy Spirit. We started with the role of the Holy Spirit and then we moved on from there discussing in detail about the tongues, the Holy Tongues. OK, and I'm not going to spend time in touching upon the previous sessions we had. Probably I keep recommending, encouraging you start from the basics, go in a chronological order, go through the series in a chronological order. Therefore, you get to understand how we started discussing about the facts from the foundations, from the basics. and then we ended in some of the advanced concepts of resurrection blood of christ sufferings of jesus um we spoke the other side and the role model of uh slavery and you know he took the servanthood um role model and we compared and then we got into the study of holy spirit right the end product of jesus suffering is holy spirit and grace okay now we are i think we went through four sessions and this is the fifth session on this episode of the holy spirit hope you are enjoying now the the previous the very last session what we had 70 and 70 continued i i just go by the numbers and alphabet so it's easy right in in in according to the indian standard um the children in the u.s they will say grade and all that right here it is more like you know section 7th section 7th c 7th a something like that so it is easy to follow an order right now we are in 7e the last episode which i believe it to be um we have to conclude because we have to go to the next concept of grace but i think i'm very confident that we had a very comprehensive study convincing study on the holy spirit okay are you all with me okay good now let's uh Continue. Excuse me. In the previous study, we, that is immediate previous study, we spoke much about the tongues. Correct. We spoke about angelic tongues. We spoke about tongues of men. We spoke about the demonic tongues. Okay. And all of them we connected with the scriptures. It's not that we were talking about some man's belief or some man's traditional mythology. No, no. We absolutely connected with the Bible. You have to go through the study again, rewind the tape because don't jump into this session. There's a final study. You want to understand head or tail. You need to understand the basics. Okay. Now, what we are going to do in the final study is we are going to reasonably ask certain questions and talk through that. And many questions would have got answered already in the previous sessions. However, there could be still some category of extended questions. And I, with the help of grace, with the help of Holy Spirit, grace of God, we were able to handpick certain frequently asked questions. And I'm not going to go through some, I mean, tens and twenties of questions. There are hardly two, three questions that I picked, okay, which are commonly spoken. There is a trend which has been conducted and I did spend some time researching that. And according to the trend, according to the human psychology, Christian human psychology in Christendom, these were the top three, four questions that always arises, that always pops up, creeps up in your mind. First question. Okay. Did Jesus speak in tongues? We touched upon it at a very high level. Always the practice was Jesus isolated himself and he went to the mount. and bible is passive it leaves it there he was in prayer with god right why because see for example gee if the bible would have told it in detail saying that you know jesus was in the principle of talking to god in the heavenly tongue right or the angelic tongue it would be a rule it would become a law and all the churches will have to fall in that rule or law because what jesus says is nothing but the father said right nothing but our father in heaven our creator would say and it cannot be taken lightly right and that's why paul gave a distinction the relaxation there although i speak in heavenly tongue as much as you know jesus spoke he didn't say that but implicitly he meant that i definitely don't do it in public and i don't impose it as a rule or a law you don't do it because you are you it is a vain repetition of words and don't don't waste your time something like that he meant to say we definitely quoted verses you may want to rewind the tape and revisit those verses okay Jesus it is believed he isolated himself and went into that realm of speaking now it's very very easy to understand and correlate that Jesus definitely want to talk to the father from a private place on secret matters mysteries else he would have prayed among the disciples right it's the same Jesus in garden of testimony was begging these guys come and let us join together and pray because i need some motivation encouragement i feel lonely come let's pray together if jesus was a was if jesus were to make get into that kind of practice he would have already taken the disciples along with him to the mount why did he have why what was the reason why why should he have gone um all alone to the uh you know mountains and all that because he wants to speak mysteries he wants to talk certain secrets which necessary not necessarily the human will have to understand why because jesus says i'm talking about simple parables if this alone you this only you are not able to understand these things only you are not able to understand if i spoke about heavenly things how is it you are going to able to understand right so he understands the limitation of the carnal being first of all there was no bible in hand and already synagogue guys only that too this rabbis and high priest these guys only know the bible these guys don't know anything whatever they were talking in synagogue more or less they know here and there right on top of that he speaks about mysteries and have angelic tongue and all that people will go mad they will go berserk therefore jesus is such a kind person right he's very gentle soft and he left it there okay let me not impose but using our imaginations now after 2000 years having read bible understood it many of us have the gifts of even speaking in angelic tongues mysteries god bless those brothers and sisters absolutely i feel proud of them thank god for such brothers and sisters right he speaks secrets and also helps them interpretate to this world and we are blessed to have such people around us good that's why we are still living because god doesn't do anything without informing us how can i not inform my friend abraham before destroying sodom and gomorrah you did you notice that instance god went and came back oh how can i not tell he actually was discussing more about abraham's uh inheritance and sarah was laughing you know and granny sarah was laughing you remember we discussed that and then god went and he came back telling that like that god never does anything in a rush neither he does he does neither would he have the practice of doing anything in secret always he will reveal that is why that secrets are revealed to certain certain people who have that gift and then they interpreted it to the human mankind, alert them, right? Second coming is a good example. There are lots of people who got a lot of visions, right? And I'm talking about the genuine ones. Again, you need to compare it with the Bible, not somebody getting a dream or taken up in the spirit. And I was having one fellow was saying, I don't know what that guy's name is. One old fellow, I have no respect. He was saying I was having apam with some angel in heaven. literally feel like you know brother come to the side i want to talk to you i i don't hate him but such people are there use your judgment brother that's why we are discussing all this in this kind of sessions right we don't have to run a church to do all this that's why we are blessed with this remote connectivity yeah many people use youtube for bad reasons but we are using youtube for heavenly reasons good reasons okay now i'm still in the basic context now jesus separated himself and he was talking in heavenly tongues secrets mysteries which devil cannot understand because don't you believe that devil is definitely also in the mountain why when Jesus was taken into wilderness devil came there he was tempting Jesus wherever even devil followed why are you tormenting evil spirit manifestations demonic powers Jesus have to cast it of course he is going to be there why because he definitely wants to listen right because all the things which Jesus is going to do are the strategies are the strategies to tame the devil corner the devil push the devil and ensure that the human mankind gets the freedom don't you think so so that's why the devil would have gone and god talks and jesus talks to the father in mysteries this is what is believed we can use our little common sense now some say so i'm now let us get into the answer first answer is this from our imaginations second is some say Eli Eli lama sabachani he told that right some say it is a tongue Jesus spoke three times in tongues what that Tabitha what is that I forgot the Tabitha something he tells wake up little girl that he tells those are all Syrochalic common language among the Jews and in simple terms those are nothing but Aramic yes it's Aramic my god why my god why have forsaken me they were able to understand it it's not tongues or angelic tongue or whatever those are normal mother tongue only he was talking okay that is somebody will have all this questions in hand or whatever in your head and therefore we are discussing this ensuring you get the complete visibility revelation okay next one answer sorry the question is this So, see again, Bible is very clear. There is no evidence of Jesus talking in any sort of tongues, unintelligible, supernatural, any form of speech. No, no, God, Jesus was very plain talking in their Aramic language. Those days, the whole region, they spoke Aramic language. Jesus spoke in that language only. And, you know, biblically, the gift of speaking in tongues occurs when someone speaks a language, when others doesn't know. We have touched upon this in 1 Corinthians 14, 2, 6, etc. verses, right? there isn't any evidence in bible where jesus spoke in tongues and the whole bunch of crowds were scratching their head have you seen that anywhere even the 5000 mount of some mountain on the sermon on the mount what happened when so many people were there three days and three nights he was talking in a plain language parable simple parable that is the nature of christ therefore don't complicate the character of christ by saying he spoke in tongues and all that no brother he didn't speak in tongues if christ were going to speak in tongues it would have been logical for him right to do so it is baptism only why baptism only the holy spirit came he may say i've seen many people while giving baptism uh the holy spirit tongues will be given and all that maybe it is true maybe it is not true but there is no hard and fast rule the moment you get into water baptism you would have you you would have to literally feel it and speak some people because the other people are doing it they do some enacting of that you know with belief if you do it it'll come like that you know you're welcoming the holy spirit by clapping your hands fiercely in that can you imagine in the tank it'll be filled with water in the water they'll be clapping against the water and imagine the condition of the pastor right giving the giving the this is the kind of belief in christened them i'm very very honest and frank which whatever we have witnessed is what we are talking in the session it's not some stories which we haven't witnessed no i have seen all of this you might have seen all of this so even jesus could have spoken in tongues no actually god spoke opening up the heaven yeah he peeped his head out of the windows and said hey you know this is my beloved son in whom i'm well pleased this is what father wants to say don't treat him like another mere human being he's my son why he lived 30 years and he's going to continue to live that way righteously and he's going to uh you know submit himself to carry the sins of the world etc so but we have no record of jesus speaking in tongues on this occasion or in any other occasion right this could have been the best occasion for jesus to introduce the concept of uh you know talking in tongues then it'll become a rule it'll become a law oh you're taking water baptism if you're talking in tongues given by the holy spirit then it's accepted by god else go you are not qualified no membership nothing please get out of our community no our god is not in see that only is clear right it's very very clear that god is not imposing anything as a rule or a law therefore it is very evidential very clear that do not get offended brother if you don't talk in tongues that's why bible itself went passively holy spirit did not make the opposites to write this they left it passively however they have to mention the stuff here and there right because the acts of the holy spirit were very very strong in the beginning days why because it was needed to instill that belief to shed clarity light bible was not there so many confusions jesus was taken up and their hero jesus was no more with them so holy spirit will have to enact all this right to also instill the confidence that holy spirit is capable to do such things you're with me so that's the reason all this happened now these days it is not needed see again i'm not don't misunderstand holy spirit is needed that's why we are doing five sessions am i trying to say that no holy spirit itself can be taken passively no no no no Holy Spirit is needed. Without him, we just cannot live our life. We can't take a step ahead. We can't breathe. We can't decide. We can't judge. We can't discern. So we need the Holy Spirit. Okay. Many advocates of today's, you know, tongues movements, I can call it as advocates of tongues movement where they talk from, talk as a legalist, talk as a lawyer, assume that Jesus must have spoken in tongues, which is right, right? Just now I was proving, right? to i would say to bolster their point right uh the bolster means to prove their point english is complicated no i have learned many words sometimes i don't cautiously use it why because it will complicate to to prove their point they point to certain passages what is that one such passages mark chapter 7 verse 34 can you turn it with turn it to turn your bibles i hope you brought back the Bibles, right? Mark chapter 7, verse 34. Come on. Turn it with me, please. Okay. 34. 34. Then looking up heaven, he sighed and said to him, Ephata, that is, be opened. What? The ears, let it be opened. Immediately his ears were opened. Right? And they quoted in which Jesus looked up to heaven with a deep sigh and all that. so that is see these are the evidences which the advocates generally the strong preachers about the spirit and all they got in mark 8 12 also they quote right mark 8 12 but he sighed deeply in his spirit and said he sighed divide this is generation seekers and assuredly i say to you now so they're connecting the spirit with that of the tongues actually this is different that is different however point to be noted here is a psi is not the same thing as a supernatural gift of tongues i want to clarify this specifically and i'm saying this anyone can psi psi means what psi means what what is my what is what is our favorite uh dictionary saying can we read it psi psi definition what all of us know but i want to read the actual definition given by oxford guys heave or utter a sigh breathe deeply and heavily something like that that also can be a sigh some noise can be a sigh so maybe Jesus took a my goodness Something like that How long should I be waiting How long should I, would you be asking for signs? Got it, no? That was a sigh. And that is not to be compared with the tongues. See, what all I have to compare, no? So that we are crystal clear, brother. From today onwards, no more confessions. Maybe you are, maybe you have reached faster than me, but I'm just kidding. 26.14 And when we all had fallen to the ground, I heard a voice speaking to me and saying in the Hebrew language, Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me? It is hard for you to kick against the gods. So, what I am referencing is Paul and Jesus, both of them have used this Aramic language. When Jesus communicated to Paul also, he was using Aramic language. Jesus generally used that language more, more often or always, I would say. He never spoke in any language. There isn't any evidence. All these are Aramic language only, most likely. He was also, you know, conversant in Hebrew and Greek. He was a conversant, which means he used to converse and he talks in Hebrew and Greek also that is also part of the you know what I say the history Jewish history since both of those languages were used well as well during those days in that era in that age of the human history human mankind these are where the common languages Aramic Hebrew Greek etc but that's why Bible says for a Greek I'm a Greek for a Roman I'm a Rome Roman and they have not a person at the power of the cool and first of all jew what paul is well versed in seven or eight languages because he's a scholar he learned by the world testament in almost all the languages that were popular in those days in those regions therefore he was able to preach or write letters epistles but whether or not jesus ever spoke with supernatural power or in any other language the bible does not say anything in specific passively it leaves it there i would say he also leave it there passively However, we spoke on both the sides. Jesus could have probably used tongues, but in loneliness, it's a secret mystery in private. He used God bless you, brother. If you have that gift, please use it in private. Okay, good. I think we all got the answers for the first question. Now, we spoke about the three main categories of tongues, but there are other few extended concepts in the tongues of the Holy Spirit. I am going to position certain questions right in front of you. Therefore, you and I have some reasoning in our heart, right? Now, first thing is, does the Holy Spirit speak in tongues? Okay, the simple answer is all Christians can speak in tongues through the gift of God's Holy Spirit. You can't invent it, right? That's what I'm trying to say. Excuse me. If you invent, it's a demonic tongue. It's not from the Holy Spirit. whether or you not choose to do whether you whether or not you choose to do it is it becomes your choice because when you are in the holy spirit choice of the holy spirit becomes your choice obviously and he decides to give that gift absolutely you have to accept it the apostle paul seems pretty convinced if you look at him that you would benefit from it so get started speaking in tongues today first you must be born again see romans 10 as much as paul says it's not important And he also talks about the importance a little bit. Let's move to the next question. few more questions and we will be getting more clarity when we are speaking in tongues we are speaking directly to god or not question mark so the answer is whom am i speaking to when i pray in tongues that is the for you know formally or frequently asked questions when we are speaking in tongues we are speaking in a language god has given us to speak with him and him alone again i will quote the same verse 1 corinthians 14 2 for he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to god bible says this clear answer is you are speaking to god you are not speaking to devil okay or any other man next question when we speak in tongues we are speaking mysteries are we really speaking mysteries yes we are bible says again in 14 2 right um 14 1 and 2 uh mysteries are invitations see mysteries are gen mysteries are generally the invitations right god invites you to talk about the greater depths of god's heart can you imagine the compassion of god how simple he has become that mere human beings he wants to discuss with us about the secrets ah i can't believe this and greater and not just that right a greater greater and greater part of the revelation the greater realms of revelation in in technical english if you see the greater greatest realms of revelation are being discussed that is that which is in submerged or encompassed within God's heart, he is having all interests, all attitude to share it with a human being because a God is someone who wants to partner with us, fellowship with us, and he wants to have company with us. Yeah. We begin to get access to those mysteries by praying in the spirit. Don't you think so? You get access to the throne room of God. And that is also covered in 1 Corinthians 14 too. Okay. Okay, brothers, let's move on. Many questions are there. i need to move a little faster when we speak in tongues do we strengthen ourselves or not the answer is when we speak in tongues we are given the ability to strengthen right not only you but also you will be given the gift the grace to strengthen the whole church strengthen the whole community of people strengthen your family also 1 corinthians 14 4 he who speaks in a tongue edifies himself jude 20 they can read uh in jude there is only one chapter so don't worry, but you beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit. You desperately need someone to guide you, talk to you, overcome. you felt lonely on that day or someone spoke something you're not convinced those are the situation these kind of tongues helps in edifying you june 20 and 1 corinthians 14 next question when we speak in tongues do we build capacity for god it's a stupid question but then it's a valid question too right now praying in the spirit widens our capacity for the life of god absolutely right and builds and strengthens our connection it renews the connection and strengthens the connection with our spirits and gods Ephesians 3 16 and 19 that he would grant you according to the riches of his glory to be strengthened with might through his spirit in the inner man inner man and we spoke about that inner man of soul spirit to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge that you may be filled with all fullness of God clear brother I think we should move on okay when we speak in tongues do we experience any personal transformation many people have asked these questions like how moses face got transfigured and shown like a son and jesus got transfigured and like that when we speak in tongues do we get any transfiguration transformation valid question no the holy spirit has come to not only empower the believer but to make them more like Jesus. Christ-like attitude will be instilled. More importantly, not the transfiguration, transformation will be seen. You got it right? The way how you were talking, when Holy Spirit comes, immediately there is a change. There is kindness. There is gentleness. The fruits are given to you. Now, since see, since influence, if sin is influencing us, if at all you are influenced with some sinful deeds, what it does is, it basically weakness. it instills weaknesses or it weakens and and gives more and gives more room for the evil spirit to have dominion over us or rather if the holy spirit instead comes upon you empowering his grace what happens is it gives more room to strengthen our spirits right leading us into the power of christ leading us into the grace and glory within us you understand so don't expect when you talk in tongues is my face shining actually don't shine they will see more of a change in character attitude and renewal of mind romans 12 1 and 2 people i mean to say whoever talks to you romans 8 29 can we read for whom we whom he foreknew turn with me to romans 8 29 for whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his son that he might be the firstborn among many brethren whomever he foreknew like certain people he would have a handpicked earmarked them for instilling these kind of gifts not all of us are needed to get this gifts right brother in you know just think and see it's not needed only few are enough why because if one person speaks a secret also it's the same it's given to 200 people also same so god felt one is enough one is enough because our god is not of god of quantity god of quality okay now there okay speaking in tongues is so important very important question correct or not that's the whole reason we are talking right one side people are misusing misinterpreting introducing many misconceptions and also you can have your bible side by side we will read one or two three verses in the interest of time i don't want to go through all the verses you can read it offline i will quote certain verses now first thing tongues were the visible proof that the disciples received with the holy spirit visible proof why witnessed it was by the in the bible holy spirit made to write it holy spirit descended and not only uh those 12 apostles disciples means many people were in that room yeah like mary magdalene would have been there of course mother of jesus also would have been there right all these people whoever were under the cross were there there were a lot of their names uh i think joanna or some some many sisters and brothers holy spirit descended in the form of tongue tongues tongues fire tongue descended that you can see in the picture i put in there okay it descended and it was witnessed acts chapter 2 if you can turn with me you can read it offline okay i'm not going to get in maybe how Jews called the Gentiles dogs that's why God Lord Jesus walked 50 miles towards one place and he enacted the drama with that Gentile lady in the in the form in the name of dog you think the dog you will throw some crumbs to me wow jesus got so thrilled and excited for that one thing he went walked 50 miles and came back 50 miles see that is the beauty of jesus no he is not a man gathering up crowd one time he's with 5000 men plus children and wife etc out outside 5000 men other side for one lady because jesus from that time on well started focusing on the gentiles right that's why he started giving special attention to the gentile lady and second time here we are talking about cornellius after jesus was taken holy spirit again coming to the gentile now we are given invitation and tongues is something that unites both community okay let's move on speaking in tongues was a vital part of both apostles uh you know apostle paul's life and teaching 1 corinthians 14 18 1 corinthians 14 simply you can see it was part of apostles teaching and life also okay other reasons i'm talking about the importance of tongues right and speaking in tongues is tied to the gospel of marks great commission can we read it mark 16 14 to 20 turn with me to mark mark 16 matthew mark luke how many times we would have you know gone through in and out of these four books isn it I always tend to think how these guys would have been you know would have looked We will all meet them in heaven It will be nice, no? Spending some time with all these apostles, learning their experiences. Wow, it's so thrilling, right? 16, 14 to 20. The Great Commission. Afterward, he appeared to the leaven as he sat at the table and he rebuked their unbelief and hardness of their heart because he did not believe. and he said to them go to the all the world preach the gospel he believe he who believes baptized in this science will follow they take up serpents readily poisoned nothing will happen to them god spoke to them and he descended and worked out and preached where the lord working on all this he is talking about the great commission sometimes what it is saying is speaking in tongues empowers you know casting out the disbelief from you unbelief from you okay an unfaithful attitude and bravery mindset double-minded all these things will go away you will get more belief and clarity speaking in tongues is next one speaking is speaking in tongues is the supernatural language given by god to believers why because it is the language of god's spirit and his kingdom we discussed this in the previous session therefore i'm moving on next speaking in tongues gives us the spirit to spirit communication with god when you uh when you want to talk in in avikurya If you communicate with your own language, you can't communicate with your own language. If you can't communicate with your own language, it's not a way to unite. The tongues will unite. We have a belief in a very clarity. One of the words, sorry, I continuously spoke in Tamil. So when your neighbor is coming or when a person is coming, you get united in spirit. Why? Because the commonality seen here is, Both of you have the gift of tongues. It is believed that way. I am not saying this. Romans 8 26 to 27. Can you turn with me? Romans 8 26 to 27. One minute. Likewise, the spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for without, but the spirit himself makes intercessions for us groaning. but now he who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the spirit is because he makes
