Greetings Classic Cinema and TV fans, this is Jason Lockhart, Pastor Jay here with you once again. And today is a very, very interesting day. Today is, as we're recording this and all, this is October the 15th, 2020. And this is, believe it or not, the 70th anniversary of the debut of an iconic show. And we're talking about I Love Lucy. Yes, we're talking about this amazing show. Yeah, wow. It's just spectacular to think that this show is now at its 70th birthday. This is just something special. Of course, Lucille Ball was an amazing actress and comedian. Started her career in the musicals and all that type of stuff. And then transitioned into TV with Desi Arnaz, her husband. And they basically changed the way we view TV. visionaries, literally visionaries, Desilu Studios, they created it, and they started to shoot everything on video and film, and began to save all these shows. You've got to take into consideration that back in the day, everything was live and they would just shoot a kinescope is what it was called And there be like a little camera shooting at a TV monitor and they would record it that way and then just play it later on And that was basically the only thing that would ever be saved just because they would do the shows live on the East Coast and then play them later in the West Coast from the cannescope. but it was really really interesting that Lucy and Desi had the idea of hey why don't we shoot our films with a studio audience live and then save it to video and then we'll have it probably no one ever realized that there would come a point that people would want this to have these shows like this but they had probably a vision of you never know, I guess. But, wow, just amazing. I Love Lucy is an iconic show. You know, Lucille Ball, Lucy Ricardo, Desi Arnaz, Ricky Ricardo. Ricky Ricardo is a club band leader, and Lucy always wanted to be in the show, and him saying, no, I want you to stay home. Be a housewife. And her always coming up with some idea to try to get into the show, dragging along with her friends and landlords, Fred and Ethel Mertz. I mean, just some of the most iconic shows in the world. I Love Lucy, The Complete Series. This is, of course, the box set that we picked up a while ago. And such a great great thing Has all the entire series This is the first five seasons in this big humongous box set here All the shows collected like this in one of these, which is cool. That way it doesn't get broke because it comes out. Then you have the next four seasons, season six through nine. and the interesting thing about these is that these include the Lucy Desi Comedy Hour, which is kind of what would happen. They went from doing the TV show, the half-hour sitcom, to actually doing a comedy hour where they would have so many amazing stars come in and be a part of the program. And yeah, it's just very, very cool. I love this show. And, you know, it's just iconic. It's classic. It literally never grows old. I think there's something in all of us that we want to have our five minutes of fame, if you will. Just that little bit of something to just kind of let us say, you know what, have all eyes on us for just a moment. We all have that inbred in us. And Lucy wanted that, Lucy Ricardo. And she did things in such the most crazy and hilarious ways that it made for such a fun show. And, yeah, so it's amazing to think that this show is 70 years old. because when you re it even in this day and age it not aged in my opinion It still a lot of fun And it still just has that classic comedy feel to it. So it's really, really cool. So just a little spotlight today to celebrate the 70th anniversary of an icon in comedy, Lucille Ball, with the 70th anniversary of I Love Lucy.
