The little yellow hat is just darling, sweetheart, and I just love the pink shoes. It'll go perfectly, don't you think? Yes. And then the scarf that you picked out, oh, it was so clever of you. And the bath powder, that'll just make it perfect. Now come along, sweetheart. Yes. Thank you. I'm going to go. I've got to be the right size and oh, you will really love it. I just know. Are you all right? Oh! No! No! Welcome to a day in the life of Miguel Garcia Reyes. Not that Miguel was really all that different from any other kid. No, not really. It's just, well, Miguel really didn't understand what the word sin meant. In fact, this was all fun and games. He felt that anything is all right, just as long as you don't get caught. We'll be right back. Nice work, my man. Yes, sir. Very impressive. The way you handled yourself in the store and blended into the crowd like that. Mm-hmm. As it turned out, being a store detective wasn't all the man did. You got a name? Seems he and a partner were involved in an illegal fencing operation and needed someone young and innocent-looking to run the stolen items across town. At first, Miguel was reluctant. But when he was offered $50 a week, he quickly changed his mind and agreed to meet them the following morning. That's their death this month. You don't think it's an overdose? I fear for my family. Every day I fear. Just this afternoon, Mrs. Pierce tells me her little Frankie and Anita were arrested for stealing. Just this afternoon, it saved more. And as if that family hadn't enough worries. She wondered if Miguel was involved I assured her my Miguel he would not do such things You right Mama Still he dumb Besides it dishonest You would never catch me doing something like that. Miguel's brother, Hector, had just been released from jail on parole. Prior to this, he had earned quite a reputation as a member of a street gang. Miguel was proud of him. Now he couldn't wait to tell his brother all about the things that had happened earlier that day. Little did he realize that today would be the start of something greater than he had ever dreamed. And you probably still have some of the stuff with you. Well, yeah. Something like that. I thought you'd, you know, kind of be proud of me. Proud? Proud because my little brother's becoming a thief? Proud because he's skipping school, throwing his life away just like I did? Well, yeah. It was good enough for you. Well, you deserve better. A lot better. Nikki? Mickey, what do you know about Jesus? Jesus? Yeah, you know. Like in the Bible. Well, uh, he's a good guy. They lived a long time ago. And, uh, he had died on a cross. And, uh, Hector, this is stupid. But what if I were to tell you that he is still alive today? and that he can give us all the things which we need to be happy, like love and peace and things like that, that all we have to do is ask him. Well, it's like God is that building over there. He wants us to be with him so that he can give us all those things which we need to be happy. But we over here separate it. And that big gap between us makes it impossible for us to get to him. That gap. That's what the Bible calls sin. You mean like me ripping off that department store? Well, yeah. Anyways, so God's over there, and we're over here. So how do we get to him? Well, that's where Jesus comes in. You see, Mickey, when Jesus died on the cross and shed his blood for us, he took the wrath for all of our sins. He allowed God to punish him for all the wrong that we've ever done. You're kidding. No. You see, we don't have to be separated from God anymore. It's like Jesus is a bridge crossing over that gap, connecting us to God. And all we have to do is cross it. That's all? Yeah. You see, Jesus did the rest. Anyways, I crossed that bridge, Mickey. I'm a Christian now, a new person. You? Yeah. And you can be a new person, too. You can cross that bridge. I mean, if you really wanted to. Think about it, will you? Right here and now, Miguel was faced with a serious choice. To seek after that new life that Hector had just found, or to go through with the plan which, deep inside, he knew was wrong. Miguel, my man. Glad you can make it. This here is Richard. Richard, Miguel. What, is this some sort of joke, Willie? No, my man. He's perfect. It looked like it was going to be easy money All he was going to have to do was deliver a small package to a location across town early the following morning He remembered his brother words and somehow he couldn get rid of this uneasy feeling But soon the prospects of the money and all the things he could buy with it convinced him that everything was going to turn out all right. What he didn't realize was that sin is always costly. Right on time. Well, come on. Don't be shy. 28.30 Jefferson. You think you can remember that? It's a cop! Step on it! Come on! Get out of here! Go on, go on! Vicky? Vicky? Vicky? Mickey! Mickey! Captain! Captain, over here! Mickey! Mickey! Mickey! You see anything? No, not a bit. Right there, up there. Come on, man, jump! Come on, man, they're coming! my ankle leave him what leave him and the stuff too let him take the rap for it but he's just a kid man it's either him or us suddenly Miguel began to see this is really what sin is all about what's it gonna be oh sure the devil will lie to us and make us think it'll be great fun and it is for a while but eventually he'll turn right around just like the two men did and double cross us he'll double cross us and leave us all alone leave us to suffer and pay for our sins in the end Mickey! Hector! Over here, hurry! Hurry! Hurry! Police! I know. Put your armor on me. There they are, right there. Now go on. But you're coming. Go on, get out of here. I decoy them You break whoa they catch you the Get out of here Thank you. Hector! Hector! What about the kid? Leave him. We got our man. What you did out there, it was kind of like what you were saying about Jesus, right? You know, how you helped me get away and took the blame for what I'd done. But now, I'm out here free, and you, you're all locked up. Oh, no, no. With Jesus inside you, you're always free. With him inside, you have the love, the peace, and the freedom. no matter where you are, no matter where. Think about it, Mickey. He can give you so much and all you have to do is ask him. Ask him to forgive you and to come inside to take control. Good. Well, take care of my man. Goodbye, Mama. It had been a long night for Miguel, but then he did what Hector had said. He asked Jesus to forgive him of all his sins, to come in and to take control of his life. He had become a Christian. How I wish you were like the birds No fears No worries Only freedom Freedom to love life To be happy Mama, Mama, there is a way. Hector was right. It's Jesus. Mama, with him, we can be free. Now I know. Thank you.
