Transcript: Classic Christmas Movie The Trouble with Angels with Haley Mills

Greetings, classic cinema and TV fans. This is Santa Flash here with you. Actually, not. But anyway, some of you may know that from an episode of Justice League. But anyway, maybe those of you that probably don't watch Justice League, then you didn't get that reference. But anyway, today we're talking about a Christmas classic. That's why we're kind of Christmassy a little bit today. We're talking about a Christmas classic. We're talking about a Hayley Mills Christmas classic. Now, Hayley Mills, many people may remember Hayley Mills from The Parent Trap. You may remember that, where she played two roles. she did it before Lindsay Lohan ever did but anyway Hayley Mills was a Disney kid star and she was amazing she starred in so many different films including That Darn Cat you know and so many others but Hayley Mills was amazing amazing child actor and loved watching her in all her films she just had a screen presence that was really, really good, really just captivating. I even loved watching her in the very first season of what would become Saved by the Bell, the original series. It was at that point called Good Morning, Miss Bliss, but it would end up becoming called Saved by the Bell She was just great But there a film that we watched I remember watching as a kid. And wow, what a film. I haven't seen it in years. I haven't seen it in years. And the film is entitled Trouble with Angels. Now, like I said, we watched this. I remember watching this as a kid and wow we got this I think we rented it at the library or something at one point and brought it home and watched it and I remember liking it but it was so long ago that I was like man I can't remember it and I'd love to see it again and so I went online trying to find it and most of the time it's pretty expensive and we don't like to spend a whole lot of money. We like to be more thrifty when it comes to that type of stuff. So we don't do that. So we've been kind of searching and waiting it out and all. And this past summer, this showed up at Goodwill for $2. And I was like, yes, please. So yeah, we got to see this finally again just this week as we're recording this video. Actually, just a couple, let's see, just a couple days ago, we watched this for the first time in so many years. And what an amazing film. I remember it being really good, but wow. It's actually, I think, a little better than I remember it. It's really good. Trouble with Angels stars Hayley Mills, and an actress that didn have a real huge career Her name was June Harding They play two troubled youths You might have seen what I done there If you didn get it then someone that did get it explain it to someone that didn't get it. Youths. Anyway, but June Harding and Hayley Mills play Mary and Rachel, two youths that are kind of troublemakers, let's put it that way. They just get into trouble and they're sent to a Catholic girls school to try to calm down and be better members of society. To try to learn to grow up, if you will. Mother Superior is played by Rosalind Russell. and there's a lot of great actresses in this film. I mean, just amazing stuff. Basically what it is, is they're sent there and then over the holiday, these two girls just drive Mother Superior and other nuns crazy just with all their antics, all their stuff. And then at Christmas time, Mary Clancy, who is played by Hayley Mills, stays behind and she witnesses the Christmas season through all the sisters at the convent, at the girls' school, and wow, it really changes her. And when Rachel, June, comes back and she sees the change in her, it doesn't bode well. And especially the end of the film, really, really, and I'm not going to spoil it for anybody, but the end of the film really has a lot of tension and a lot of heart and a lot of I mean it just it a great film It really is a great film I know we at the end of Christmas season and the holiday seasons here so this is going to be very difficult. But if you can find it on streaming, and you probably could, you can find this on streaming, I'm sure, somewhere. You may want to rent this and check it out. It is really, really good. If you can find a copy of this, definitely get a copy. It is so, so good. I enjoyed it much more than I even did, than I remember I did. It's really a good film. I know there is a sequel, but Hayley Mills and June Harding are not in that. The only ones that are back are Mary Wicks and Rosalind Russell. We may watch that sometime. It's on streaming on Crackle, I believe. Yeah, it's Crackle. So we may check that out, but I know it's not going to be nothing like this. This one is absolutely spectacular. So yeah, that's our little recommendation for the holiday season. This is Trouble with Angels starring Hayley Mills. and Rosalind Russell. Definitely a good film.
