Greetings Classic Cinema TV fans and yes comic book fans. This is Jason Lagerpast of Jay here with you once again on another comic book roundup. It has been quite a while since we've done one of these. And yeah, today we're going back to an interesting one. And we're talking a little Star Trek. That's why we got our Star Trek gear on today. But we're talking Star Trek. Star Trek is probably one of the most iconic shows in television history. Whether you like the original series, some people are straight-laced and say original series or nothing. Some love the Next Generation or Enterprise, Discovery, or whatever. There's all kinds of different versions of Star Trek. And they all have merit. They all are good in their own ways. But we're going back to the classic. We're going back to the original today. And we're talking about an episode from Season 1. And in Episode 28, there is an episode entitled The City on the Edge of Forever. and it deals with Dr. McCoy who kind of has a little bit of a psychedelic trip, if you will, and he beams down and he changes the timeline of everything and messes up everything and Spock and Kirk have to go back through a portal back in time to the 1930s to try to fix what Dr. McCoy messed up. Okay it is considered probably one of the greatest episodes in the original series Now that debatable Some people will have different thoughts on that But most people will tell you that this is a spectacular episode. It really is probably one of my favorite episodes of the entire series. I love it. I think it's spectacular. But the interesting thing about this is the writer of this episode, Harlan Ellison, this was not his original vision that we see in this episode found in the broadcast. It was not the way he originally planned it to be. It's not the way he originally wrote it. He wrote it quite differently, and because of standards and practices and all kinds of stuff like that that go on in television in the 60s, things had to change. They had to adjust things. They had to switch things up. They had to take some things out because it just wouldn't fly on television because of standards and practices. Well, the good folks at IDW Publishing, IDW Comics, decided to give Harlan Ellison, his original vision, a chance to shine. And thus we got this, the city on the edge of forever, the trade back. Now, this is collected in, I think it's five issues, if I'm not mistaken. I think I remember it being five issues. And we've got all five issues as well as the trade back, but we're using this today because it's a little bit easier to deal with than getting out the small ones. But anyway the city on the edge of forever is Harlan Ellison original vision complete with all kinds of controversial things And we're not going to go into that because we want you to read the book. We want you to read this. It's really awesome. But anyway, this is the original teleplay, played out in comic book form. And it is adapted by Scott and David Timpton. and artwork by J.K. Woodward. And I have to tell you, this is spectacular. The artwork is literally amazing. Look at this artwork. Is that not the most gorgeous-looking artwork you've ever seen in your life? Look at how gorgeous that is. That is just beautiful. I mean, literally, that just transports you right into the scenes. I mean, that is amazing. I love it. I think it's spectacularly done. The original teleplay has been adapted, as we said, by Scott and David Tipton, and they do a great job with this. It's engaging. just like the TV show draws you in and you're right there and you're enamored by all the action and all of the story it's the same thing here it's just there's a lot of more risque I guess maybe is a good word to say nothing dirty but it is so spectacular I love it so much now the interesting thing there is with this right here this new trade back or not new tradeback, but this classic tradeback here, there is an introduction and an afterword by Harlan Ellison himself. And that is really really cool to see to read his words about him about who he is and about his vision It's just really awesome. I literally love this book. I mean, I'm telling you, this is just spectacular. so we love to give you something to think about and read about and something that will kind of transport you through all the bad things that go on in life and just kind of give you a little bit of a break from all the bad stuff and I'm going to tell you something if you want something to just read that's going to just kind of take you out of this world that we live in for just a little bit and put you into an exciting adventure City on the Edge of Forever is unbelievable it is so good it's just it's amazing so definitely definitely definitely if you've never seen it definitely check out City on the Edge of Forever in comic book form and if you if you're not a fan of reading comics shame on you no I'm kidding they're really good entertainment but if you're not a fan of that Definitely, if you've never seen it, definitely check out City on the Edge of Forever, the Star Trek episode.
