Welcome, my excellent friends, to this most triumphant podcast. I'm being funny, actually. This is Jason Locker, Pastor Jay, here with you once again on the Retro Drive-In Podcast. But you know what? I did that for a purpose, because today we're talking Bill and Ted. Man, what a cool film series. Bill and Ted, probably something I grew up with, let's be honest. I grew up with Bill and Ted. As a young teenager, watching Bill and Ted on television, watching all those old films, those two films being replayed on cable all the time. And I watched it so much that it was crazy. Just love that, those two films, right? And we're talking about Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure and Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey. Love these two films. uh bill and ted's excellent adventure is um basically about two guys named bill and ted who have dreams of um starting a band called the wild stallions and uh making rock music well the only problem is bill and ted are flunking uh history and uh that's going to send everything that they hope for down the drain as Ted's dad is going to send him to military school and then thus the whole band will go bye-bye. So what could possibly happen? Well, from the future comes a help, if you will, in the guise of George Carlin, a guy named Rufus. Rufus takes them or gives them a phone booth okay yeah in this day and age who knows what a phone booth is but that's what makes this so cool hey man it was the 80's man you know that's what it was well you lost me quite some time but he gives them a phone booth and the interesting thing about it is it's a time travel phone booth and their whole idea is to go back in time and get all these historical characters to put together one of the most triumphant history projects of all time and yeah they they end up on an amazing journey most excellent adventure if you will and it is so cool uh love that first film and then they went to a bogus journey uh with the second film well the second film the bogus journey uh deals with um bill and ted they're um they're building their band and uh they've they're gonna be in the Battle of the Bands. And what a cool thing this is. And everything seems to be right with the world until evil versions of Bill and Ted take over and kill them and send them into the afterlife and take over their whole lives. And then it is up to Bill and Ted to defeat death himself. and return and take over or take back their lives. It is, wow, what a cool film. Both of these were just so awesome. Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure and Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey was something that kids from my generation watched over and over and over and over and over. You could almost quote the films because they were just so cool. And the interesting thing is, in 1991 was the last time we saw Bill and Ted. 1991. And that was a long time, man. Because a lot of people from my generation was sitting there saying, man, we want Bill and Ted. We want a third one. We've got to have a trilogy. And it went for years and years and years. and there was like no hope for a third film. And then as the pandemic, the COVID-19 pandemic started to hit, there was something very interesting that took place, and that was the fact that Bill and Ted were coming back. Alex Winter and Keanu Reeves broke the social media world when they announced the return of Bill and Ted. That was so cool. And the film would be called Bill and Ted Face the Music. Now, interestingly enough, here at Classic Cinema Plus, we are so, so, so, so busy because we get tons of products from movie companies asking us to review for them that we can't always just go and just watch a film the moment it comes out because we just don't have time for that. We got so much we have to do during the course of a week that you just don have time So we picked up a copy of the the amazing bill and ted face the music and said okay we gonna watch it now and so uh so yeah that what we did we um we picked up a copy of this one bill and ted face the music and um and was uh gonna check it out and uh the interesting thing about this film is that if you know Bill and Ted, you know their whole, the whole thing is that they are going to write a song that unites the world. That's, that's the whole thing. Brings balance to the universe. The whole nine yards. That was the whole point of Bill and Ted. Um, and so that's what we were waiting for. Okay. Was that song that was going to bring balance to the universe. And we never got to see that. So that's why we got Face the Music. We were finally going to get to see Bill and Ted write that song that's going to unite the universe. Bring balance to everything. Okay, that sounds awesome. And so I was really excited about it. So it was kind of cool to see Bill and Ted back together again here in this film here. This was pretty cool to see Alex Winter and Keanu Reeves back together. But basically what Face the Music is, is this is so many years later, of course, and Bill and Ted haven't written the song. They have not written the song. and the um the um this is really cool rufus as we know george carlin has passed away had passed away and so we didn't get george carlin in the third film of course but here we get uh carlin's or rufus's daughter if you will um coming to help the boys and say you know what you have got to do this. You've got a short period of time. Um, they've went for so long and now it is D day, if you will. It's, it's the hour. It's the final hour. They've got to do this. And in like 79 hours, I mean, it's, it's, it's, you've got to get it done. Otherwise everything's gone. And so, they've got to get this thing finished, right? Okay, they don't have a song. What are they going to do? How could they possibly write the song if they've never written the song unless they take another excellent adventure into the future and steal the song from themselves to play the song But How can we steal a song is that not that not legal but is it really stealing if we taking it from ourselves uh you know it it just pretty cool it's pretty cool um they're joined here by uh their daughters their daughters are taking them going on an adventure of themselves for themselves as well, kind of going through time, picking up historical musical figures like Louis Armstrong and Jimi Hendrix and Beethoven and all kinds of different characters throughout history and bringing them together to do this one song, right? now I'm not going to spoil it but I will say this the way the song comes about and the way we find the song how the song becomes the one that unites the world is a little bit of a downer to me and I don't want to spoil it because if I tell you exactly what it is then I'm spoiling the whole thing and I don't want to do that but I will say that was a little bit of a downer but all in all the film was really really good I enjoyed it but I wish it would have been more about Bill and Ted if you will but it was a good conclusion if you will to this story and like I said Bill and Ted Face the Music is a really good film but ain't nothing compared to these two here. Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure and Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey are just spectacular. They're the two greatest films in my childhood that I will always remember and remember fondly. So, yeah, that's my take on Bill and Ted Face the Music. What's your thoughts on Bill and Ted, the trilogy now? What are your thoughts on this trilogy? What is your favorite one?
