Greetings Classic Cinema and TV fans, this is Pastor Jay here with you once again on a Flashback Friday. Today we're talking about a new release from Kino Lorber and Code Red. Love this. This is Chomps. this is a really really cool film um i remember seeing this when i was a uh a kid uh with my mom and my dad uh we um i believe we uh rented this or maybe picked this i don't know exactly where we did see this but we we saw it some way and i remember seeing this as a kid and it was it was amazing it was something i'll never forget and um always uh thought about it over these years and I've only watched it that one time, and I've been thinking about it a lot. And then when Kino Lorber decided to release this along with Code Red, it was like, you have got to be kidding me. I was like, yes, please. So, yeah, this is pretty cool. It stars Wesley Uri and Valerie Bertinelli. Now, interestingly enough, you will probably remember Wesley Ury from the great Sid and Marty Croft TV show called Land of the Lost. He was Will Marshall. Pretty, pretty cool. This was the Marshall family as they are stuck in the Land of the Lost with dinosaurs and sleigh stacks and all kinds of stuff like that. It was such a cool show. Well here Wesley Uri is in a feature film alongside Valerie Bertinelli and she was probably best known for her time on One Day at a Time the original TV show Pretty pretty cool Now, interestingly enough, Chomps was made by Hanna-Barbera, known for all the great cartoons such as The Flintstones, The Jetsons, Yogi Bear, so many more. We don't have time to announce them all. But anyway, they're known for all those great cartoons. But here they're doing a live-action film, and this was pretty, pretty cool. Wesley Uri here plays a computer genius, if you will And his girlfriend, played by Valerie Bertinelli Fiance, I guess, is more likely what you would call her But anyway, at this point Her dad owns Norton Security Systems It's a home security system company And they're going down the drain fast They need something that's going to change the game And here, Wesley Uri has something very, very special up his sleeve. He's been working on it for quite a while, and it is Chomps. Yes, this is Canine Home Security System, you know, Chomps. It's a Canine Home Protective System. That's Chomps, if you will. and it's a computerized dog that has super strength and it's pretty cool. Now the problem with this is that the rival security company finds out about Chomps and they want to destroy Chomps before they get to reproduce him and make a killing if you will or a mint if you will on this home security system Pretty cool. And they hire two burglars to kind of do the job. And one of them is Red Buttons. Who didn't love a little Red Buttons? He never got a dinner. Those of you that know Red Buttons will get that. If you don't Google it, you'll find out what I mean. Anyway, because we don't have time to go into that. But anyway, but it's a really, really cool film. It was supposed to be made for children, for families, and they made a G-rated version. But what they decided to do was, okay, we want to make it a little more adult, if you will. So they ended up having the dog next door named Monster do voiceovers, like the dog speaking in his own mind. And Monster has a little bit of a dirty mouth. Nothing really, really horribly bad, but just a little bit. Made it a little more PG than G. Okay, so that wasn't the best in the world, but that's okay. It's still a fun film. Conrad Bain is in this. Love Conrad Bain from different strokes. He, of course, played Mr. Drummond. And we get also one of my favorites. I love it so very much. We get Jim Backus who is known as the voice of Mr Magoo or maybe you know him as Thurston Howell III from Gilligan Island He is in this as well Just a great great release Here Kina Lorber and Roko Red put together a pretty amazing little release filled with all kinds of cool stuff. It's got a brand new 2K Master, and it looks spectacular. There's an audio commentary by Wesley Urie and co-writer Dwayne Poole, and a new interview with Wesley Urie and of course the theatrical trailer. Really, really a cool release. I have to say this is something very, very special. So if you've never seen Chomps, do yourself a favor and check it out. It is a great, great release.
