Thanks to Classic Cinema and TV fans, this is Pastor Jay, Jason Lockhart here with you once again bringing you another Silver Screen Spotlight and today we're looking back at a classic from George Powell. This is brand new on Blu-ray, actually this is a first look before it actually is released. to a brand new Blu-ray release. This is The Wonderful World of the Brothers Grimm. Wow, such a cool production. Now, George Powell was amazing. He is known for his productions being so spectacular and so, like, just immense that when you go to a George Powell production, you know you're in for something spectacular. He produced the War of the Worlds, the classic War of the Worlds, and the absolute classic H.G. Wells, The Time Machine. You may remember those if you're a classic cinema fan. But this one is pretty, pretty cool. The Wonderful World of the Brothers Grimm. It has an all-star cast, including Lawrence Harvey and Walter Slezak and Barbara Eden, who played Jeannie on I Dream of Jeannie, the TV series. Russ Tamlin. There's Terry Thomas, the classic British comedian. So awesome. There's Buddy Hackett, who didn't love Buddy Hackett? And Jim Backus who played Judge Bradley Stevens on I Mary Joan who also played Thurston Howell III on Gilligan Island and was the voice of Mr Magoo Pretty, pretty cool production. Basically what this is, is it's about the two brothers, Grimm, who are working on a historical account for a Duke. But one of the brothers gets sick and has dreams and visions of crazy off-the-wall characters. And the two brothers decide to write a book of fairy tales featuring these characters. And wow, what an awesome thing it is. This one, in this production here, there's all kinds of music and adventure and all kinds of stuff. It's just a, it's an epic, really. It's over two hours long. It's like two hours and 20 minutes long. It's an epic adventure. And in this, you get the dancing pirate, the cobbler and the elves, the singing bone. I mean, just awesome stuff. And it's all about the Brothers Grimm, so the Grimm's fairy tales. So, so cool. Now, the interesting thing about this production here, this Blu-ray set, is there's two discs in this Blu-ray set. And it's not a Blu-ray DVD set like some of you get. No, no, no, no, no. This is a two-disc Blu-ray set. And the reason for that is because we get two versions of the film. You get not only the letterbox edition, which is with the top block, black up at the bottoms and the tops, you know, the widescreen, if you will. You get the letterbox edition but you also get something called the smile box edition Now Smilebox was something that they tried for a little bit and it was to bring more picture and give it a different feel And it was literally where the picture would go up on the sides and go up on the sides on the bottom, and you had like a smile, if you will. So you had more picture on the sides than you did in the middle, if you will. And it was tried, and I don't think it overly was successful. So thus it didn't last. You know, it just didn't. Not many of these actually survive. The Smilebox editions don't survive. They're more or less forgotten about, if you will. But I'm glad on this we get not only the Letterboxd edition, but the Smileboxd edition as well. I think that's pretty cool. included on the discs are some amazing features we'll have a full written review about this and we'll go into great detail but there is some radio interviews there's the epic art of the Brothers Grimm there's the wonderful career of George Powell like a little documentary featurette really really cool there's the theatrical trailers of both the Letterboxd edition and the Smileboxd edition there's just all kinds of stuff We don't have time to go into everything. We'll go into great detail on the written review. But it is really, really a cool release. There's also in this a booklet that you get that has the behind the story about the Brothers Grimm, the story itself. There George Powell the producer talked about in this little booklet which is really really cool What is Cinerama And that is kind of what it is Metro Gold Room and Mare presents Cinerama the wonderful world of the Brothers Grimm and so they go into great detail on what Cinerama is it is really really an interesting little release I am looking so forward to check this out in its entirety I have just kind of skipped through a little bit and kind of looked at a little bit about it and the picture looks amazing it really looks really really good so I am really looking forward to checking this out, especially in Smilebox Edition.
