Transcript: Palm Sunday Sermon | Eric Proctor's Gospel Reflections

Hello and welcome to BrighterDayBaptistChurch.com. We're bringing a sermon today on, as you can see in the background here, Palm Sunday is today's. We're leading up to the crucifixion. We already got a sermon out already, Dad put up one today. and we're going to be bringing up some stuff on that crucifixion day. I hope you'll be tuning in to us for that. But I did put up a small thing here where I'm going to be preaching out of today. We also have up our website that you can see here. But we're going to go ahead and we're going to be preaching about Jesus goes into Jerusalem. This is the Palm Sunday message. And so let's pray and then we'll begin. Dear Heavenly Father, we just thank you so much, Lord, that we can deliver a sermon today, Lord. We ask you, Lord, to bless our listeners and our watchers, Lord. We ask you, Lord, to put me aside, Lord, and just work through me today, Lord. And we just ask you, Lord, that this message to bless everyone that is listening to it, Lord. We just thank you so much for this opportunity. In Christ's name we pray. Amen. Now I'm going to bring my Bible up here so I can read it. So we begin in verse 28. Now you'll have to bear with me with my language and reading. It just takes me time. So we'll go ahead and get started. And when he had thus spoken, he went before ascending up to Jerusalem. And it came to pass, when he was come nigh to Bethlehem's age, and Bethany, at the mount called the Mount of Olives, he sent two of his disciples, saying, Go ye into the village over against you, in which that you're entering ye shall find a cold tide, whereon ye never man yet sat. Loose him and bring him hither And if any man ask you why do you lose him Thus shall ye say unto him Because the Lord hath need of him And they that were sent went their way and found even as he had said unto them. And as they were loosing the colt, the owners therefore said unto them, Why loose ye the colt? And they said, The Lord hath need of him. And they brought him to Jesus, and they cast their garments upon the colt, and they set Jesus there on. And as he went, they spread their clothes in the way, and when he was come nigh, even now at the ascent of the Mount of Olives, the whole multitude of disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had seen, saying, Blessed be the King that cometh in the name of the Lord, peace in heaven and glory in the highest. and some of the Pharisees from among the multitude said unto him, Master, rebuke the disciples. And he answered and said unto them, I tell you that if these should hold their peace, the stones would immediately cry out. And when he has come near and beheld the city, he wept over it, saying, If thou hadst known, even thou art less in this thy day, the things which belong unto thy peace, but now they are hid from thine eyes. For the day shall come upon thee, that thine enemies shall cast a trench about thee, and compass thee around and keep thine on every side and shall lay thee even with the ground and thy children within thee and they shall not leave in thee one stone upon another because thou knowest not the time of thyself's visitation. now we see a picture here that Jesus is going in to Jerusalem they went Jesus told them to go get this colt and it was tied up at this person's place well how would you feel during that time because animals were viable and here you see these strangers coming in and tying this donkey and they said where are you taking my donkey to and he says well the Lord needs it so they took this donkey and then they began to throw their clothes and stuff on him and then Jesus was riding this donkey they began to throw him clothes down on the ground in front of it and they started praising the Lord. Now, you've got these Pharisees and saying, rebuke your disciples. Well, you've got your friends that's been with you and here these Pharisees are saying, hey, you know, tell them to quit it. Tell them to stop it. They're praising God. You know, people don't understand, hey, you know, that God is doing a lot for you. And why should we quit praising God when other people tell you to stop doing it? You know, I don't think that's right. I just don't think that's right at all. Another reason why they was praising Jesus at this time was they thought that Jesus was going to go in and he was going to be the king of Israel. and he was going to free up the Jews, but that was not the case. Jesus was going to go there to die for our salvation. So we're going to look here at some verses and to bring this into play. Okay so in chapter 19 41 through 44 it was stipulated here The Jewish leaders had rejected their king that had gone too far They had refused God's offer of salvation in Jesus Christ when they were visited by God himself and soon their nation would suffer. God did not turn away from the Jewish people who obeyed him. However, and he continues to offer salvation to the people he loves, both Jews and Gentiles. Eternal life is within your reach. accept it while the opportunity is still offered. You know, Jesus preached on salvation, you know, to accept him. But again, they was throwing their palms and leaves around, and they was dancing because they said, oh, this is the king that's going to deliver us. Well, he is going to deliver you, but in another way, and that was to die for us, for our sins. And when they found out that he wasn't going to do it, what they thought that he was going to do, they hollered, crucify him, crucify him. You know, we see the beautiful picture here of the beginning of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. and I can't wait to see what Dad has to say on the resurrection part.
