Transcript: Memorial Service at Brighter Day Baptist Church - Finding Hope in Grief

Music Music Music Music Oh, beautiful, oh, for spacious skies, forever praise the name. For the world, oh, mountains, majesty, of your God, fruit in vain. America, America, God shed his grace on thee. And now the good of the good of the good of the shining sea. How beautiful are things that see beyond the years. I have a best of city swing. I'll give my human tears. America, America, I'm in my every call. God, my soul is now controlled by liberty in all. America, America, God shed His grace on thee. And crowned the good His brotherhood from sea to shining sea. I'll see you shining sea. Shining sea Shining sea Hello and welcome to our Memorial Day Brighter Day service today and I so happy that you here with us today and today we're remembering our soldiers across the United States of America and we just want to take this time and pray for our soldiers and their families. Let's go ahead and bow our heads. Dear Heavenly Father, we just thank you so much, Lord, that you are protecting us against our enemies, Lord, with our soldiers, Lord. We just pray for their families we pray for them as they're abroad lord and we just ask you lord to protect them and guide them lord and bring them home safe we just thank you so much lord for all that the soldiers do in christ's name we pray amen and we thank god for what he does he protects he guides us and And just to thank him so much for allowing us to bring you all the message today. We're going to be bringing a message on sacrifice. You know, soldiers sacrifice constantly. You know, it's packing up their gear. It's going out and getting their stuff together to get ready to go and leave their families. It could be, you know, a father's daughter or a father's son that's in the service. And then all of a sudden they're home and the next minute they're gone. And then all of a sudden it also is the ones that have sacrificed their lives. You can see here behind the screen here, the ones that have paid the price for our freedom. That's what Memorial Day is, you know. The ultimate sacrifice. And you know the relation, the actual basis like what is similar is to our Lord Jesus Christ who sacrificed himself for us all for our sins. So today's message is on sacrifice. We're going to be in Matthew 19 and we're going to go ahead and get started here. I'm going to bring my Bible up. And Jesus is mentioned about sacrifice here to this young man. This young man in Matthew 19 and verse 20 says, This young man saith unto him, All these things have I kept from my youth. What lack I yet And Jesus said unto him if thou wilt be perfect go and sell that thou hast and give to the poor and thou shalt have treasure in heaven and come and follow me But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions. you know sometimes it's hard to sacrifice you know we have so much in America we really do and as Jesus said sacrifice and follow after him and sometimes you know the hardest thing is for people is to give it over to God what the problems are You know, and we and it's what this young man, he wanted to follow Jesus Christ. But he said, go and sell all that you have, you know, and give it to the poor and you'll have great treasures in heaven and then follow me. But this young boy, he went off by himself. He was very sorrowful. it says here, he said, but the young man heard the saying, that saying, and he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions, but there's no greater possession than Jesus Christ. And then we see over here, and we're going to go ahead and flip a page here to Acts. We're going to be at Acts now in Acts 2, and we're going to be in verse 49, and it says, And fear came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles. and all that believed were together and had all things common and sold their possessions and goods and parted them to all men and every man had need. And they continued daily with one accord in the temple by breaking bread from house to house did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart, praise God, and having favor with all the people, and the Lord added to the church daily, such as to be saved. These people gave. It says up here, they, you know, they had, and all believed together, and all things common, and sold their possessions and goods and parted them to all men as every man had need And they continued daily with one accord in the temple breaking bread from house to house did they eat. The meat with gladness and singleness of heart, praising God and having favor with all people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved. You know, this time, we see that the people gave a great soldier stuff and sacrificed, but yet they weren't sorrowful. They were joyful, and they praised God, and the church was added. Our soldiers in America, we need to pray for them. they sacrifice every day their lives that's on the line we need to pray for their families we need to pray for the ones in Ukraine and in Russia and all the ones that are in danger you know we live comfortably here in America and there in a stressful in a foreign place let's keep in mind let's not take our freedom for granted let's each day pray for our soldiers and remember you know let us sacrifice freely and give daily to God for God who made us so we should be loving and kind and joyful and peaceful people and helping each other like the bible says love one another and to remember to give it all to god and that's sacrificially giving to god each day let's end in prayer your heavenly father thank you so much for this memorial day lord we ask you lord for your blessings on each soldier. We ask you, Lord, to be with each family member that has lost a soldier, a son or a daughter, Lord. It's so bad to lose a son or a daughter in a war situation, Lord. I pray for those families. I pray, Lord, that you would just love them and guide them during these times of remembrance, Lord, and help them get through each day, Lord. Please be watchful over the ones in Ukraine and in Russia, Lord. War is never the solution. You're the solution. In Christ's name we pray. Amen.
