Greetings Classic Cinema and TV fans, this is Jason Lockett Passage here with you once again bringing you another flashback Friday and this is a very interesting one. We're talking about a new release from the good folks at Real Vault. Pretty, pretty cool. It's basically the complete fourth season of the Danny Thomas Show. Now, Danny Thomas, of course, is best known by many people for being the founder of St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, which is in and of itself right there, enough to make him an icon right there. But beyond that, he was an amazing actor and an amazing comedian and just a great guy. Now, originally, his show was entitled Make Room for Daddy. and it ran for three seasons and it basically was him Danny Williams being a nightclub performer comedian and singer and having a wife and two kids and trying to do that whole thing balancing act of being an entertainer and a father and a husband as well. But when the third season wrapped the woman that was playing Danny Williams wife Martha Williams was Jean Hagen and she decided to leave the show and try other things And when she did that, Danny Williams or Danny Thomas at this point decided to instead of trying to recast and having someone play the part of the Martha Williams, he decided to just wipe the slate clean. which in a lot of ways I respect that in a lot of ways because if you've been watching television for any length of time you know that there is a thing that they do a lot of times where there's an actress or an actor that decides to leave the show and boom they try to recast it like we the audience won't know any better. um fresh prince of bel-air did that with um vivian uh the the the aunt of um uh will smith at the time in this show uh also they did that with uh harriet winslow in um uh family matters um just ah no one will know the difference well we do we're we're not that stupid okay we we know that. I'm kind of glad that he just kind of decided to wipe the slate clean and just kind of try to just make himself the single father going forward and just do that. I just think it was better than trying to almost make it like television audiences won know the difference We know the difference Come on, people. We're not that dumb. You know? And so I kind of like the idea of that. Well, anyway, so it went from Make Room for Daddy to just the Danny Thomas show. Now, it was still the same actors and it was still the same show. but it was just a new title and the whole nine yards that way. But that's why it's still the fourth season of the show because it's Make Room for Daddy. It just changed the name a little bit and it changed the actor and whatever. But it's still the fun show with Danny Thomas. And we didn't love Rusty Hammer. Uh, he was just a smart aleck boy and, and just giving him one liners and him little, uh, digs and him little twists and him little things. And it was just, he was always funny. So, uh, love this. And, uh, so anyway, four season consisted of 30 episodes. uh really really cool and here uh film uh the uh real vault uh company have released this series on four dvds um this uh this season uh 30 episodes four dvds and uh let me tell you i haven't watched the whole thing yet because there's 30 episodes to get to through so it's very difficult to get through 30 episodes in no time flat But anyway we have watched a couple and these really look spectacular From what we seen they really really look great I really enjoying watching these I will tell you that something that a lot of people may like, maybe some won't, but some people will like, is that some of these episodes have the original commercials from the old TV show, which is kind of a plus for a lot of people. Now, some people that don't like those classic commercials may say, eh, but that's why you have a remote. You fast-forward. But anyway, I'm really enjoying it, though. It's really good.
