Greetings, classic cinema and TV fans. This is Jason Lockhart here with you once again, bringing you another Flashback Friday. And today we're talking about a genre of films. and we're talking about some newer releases from Kino Lorber Studio Classics. You know, here at Classic Cinema Plus, we love us some Kino Lorber. I mean, they are an amazing, amazing company doing some amazing, amazing things. Kino Lorber Studio Classics, under the genre of westerns, as we saddle up, partners. I know that was a bad thing. I'm not a cowboy, people. We know that. But anyway, first off, I want to talk to you about one of my favorite actors. I love this actor. I'm talking about James Stewart. We're giving you a little teaser here. Okay, James Stewart. Love Jimmy Stewart. He is amazing in everything I've ever watched of him. I love his way about him, the way he acts. He's just amazing. This film, Shenandoah. What an amazing little release. Shenandoah, of course, is a Western. And it takes place, of course, in the Wild West. And it's kind of a unique story. James Stewart plays a ranch owner and a widower and has some sons and kids and he just does not like the war. And the soldiers and the military come to want to get his sons to come and to fight in the war. And he just is completely against it And there this fight between him and the army and all this to try to resolve why should I let my kids go into the war and die for something that I don believe in And wow, that is a – it's a timeless story because we all have times when we look at things that go on in our political society and in our country that some things we don't agree with. and other things we do, and there can be that disconnect, and there can be that thing where, well, I don't agree with this, or I do agree with this, and then there's that, and so it's a timeless story, and it is a really amazing story. I really enjoyed watching this. I watched this, of course, for the first time, watching this one on Blu-ray, and I have to say it was a great film, and it looked amazing on Blu-ray. It really was a great, great film. Audio commentary, theatrical trailer, all on this release. It really is a great one. If you are a fan of James Stewart or Westerns, I definitely suggest checking out Shenandoah from Keenalorber. It really is spectacular. It really looks great. And I am so glad we have this in the collection. It is amazing. Now, here one that we just reviewed a little bit ago, not too far along ago, is an interesting duo, I guess, of superstar actors in a Western. And we're talking about John Wayne and William Holden. And what would they be in? It would be the Horse Soldiers. what an amazing little film this is as well uh first off there is a audio commentary and theatrical trailer is included on this but uh the interesting thing is what is this what is this it is a slipcover okay uh granted it's the same it's uh pretty much the same artwork or actually is the same artwork but hey i love slipcovers to me to me if i get a slipcover i'm pretty happy i like that protection that it you know uh gives to the to the blu and and all or the dvd as the case may be but i really i really do enjoy this Again this is another film that deals with the war And this one is pretty cool because it is also directed by John Ford, the John Ford. Yes, The Searchers and many other great films, too many to mention. But it's pretty cool. John Wayne and William Holden here are horse soldiers, and they're stopping off trying to take care of the wounded and stuff like that, trying to do all this while they're getting ready to go to finish out what their job is. and there's a lot of tension between John Wayne and William Holden. There's a lot of tension between a woman that comes along for the ride, and she becomes like a helper to the medical team and all, and there's a lot going on. Again, another type of film that deals with the horrors of war and how some people just don't agree with some of the stuff that goes on, and I think that's really cool. A very, very good film. Another beautiful release. Remastered in 4K and it looks spectacular. Really is a great film. Definitely, definitely worth checking out. The Horse Soldiers from Keanu Lorber Studio Classics. Yes, please. All right, and then finally, just a couple days ago, we put up a full written review of this one. So this is brand new, just been released, and this is a spectacular release. We're talking about a 1995 Western adventure. We're talking about Last of the Dogmen. Now, this is a really interesting one because, of course, this film has been remastered in 4K as well from an original camera negative, so it really looks spectacular. And color graded to where it looks better. I mean, it's just amazing. It really looks great. And what it is is it takes place uh and follows um a bounty hunter who uh comes across uh some dead bodies and finds that they are uh they been killed by uh arrows uh and uh primitive arrows at that And then he comes to find out that there an Indian reservation and comes to tell about this and there this wicked sheriff in the town that finds out that these men have been killed via the Indians, and it's like, okay, this isn't going to happen, So he decides to start out on a full-scale war against the Indians, and it's up to the bounty hunter to kind of get in the middle and try to kind of fix this before everything just goes bad. A very, very interesting film. Now, the interesting thing here is, too, slipcover and not slipcover, but a really, really cool release. You get an audio commentary, you get newly commissioned art, of course, which is pretty cool, theatrical trailer and TV spot, awesome stuff. And the really cool thing that I thought was really awesome, too, was the fact that there is a booklet insert with a pretty interesting little read from Julie Kergo about this film. So that's pretty, pretty cool as well. So yeah, I'm really excited about these westerns from Keena Lorber. I've never been a real big fan of westerns when I was younger, but as I've gotten older and became a movie reviewer, I've had to review movies and many westerns, and as my years have gone on, I've actually learned to respect the western much, much more. So yeah, very, very good stuff from Keena Lorber. So if you're interested in any of these releases, go to Classic Cinema Plus and check out the full written reviews and check them out. I think you'll want to pick some of these up. Very, very good stuff. Until we see you next time, this is Jason Lockhart reminding you that if you want to see a great film, check out a classic. And we will see you next time for another Classic Cinema Flashback Friday. Thank you.
