Transcript: SeaQuest DSV Blu-ray Review and Thoughts

Greetings, Classics and Man TV fans. This is Jason Lockard, Pastor Jay here with you once again, bringing you another Retro Drive-In podcast. Today we are talking about a brand new release from the good folks at Mill Creek Entertainment, and this one is pretty, pretty cool. We're talking about Sequest DSV on Blu-ray. Pretty awesome. Sequest was a TV series that kind of dealt with police crew, if you will, of this submarine SeaQuest. As mankind has kind of exhausted all its resources on top of the earth, they decide to go under the earth and into the sea to try to colonize. And they need a, if you will, police crew or something to kind of make sure to kind of protect those colonies from all of the evils, if you will, that are going to try to hurt those colonies. Pretty interesting little series. It lasted three seasons and 57 episodes. Now, this series, of course, stars Roy Scheidner. A pretty fancy Monica there. Now, many people may only remember him from Jaws, right? Who didn't remember Jaws, right? You remember that iconic soundtrack, you know, of Jaws, or you're going to need a bigger boat, you know? You may only remember that, but you remember this movie, right? That was Roy Scheidner. He is in this, taking the lead in this amazing little series. and wow, it's on Blu-ray, so that is pretty, pretty cool. Executive producer, Steven Spielberg. So you know you got name value there. And this was a pretty cool series. Now, it comes in a slipcover, of course, a nice slipcover box. Okay. And then on the inside, I like the way they do this. This is a different artwork. Sometimes when you do a slip cover, it's the same artwork. It's always nice to have different artwork. Okay, so that is pretty awesome. I like that. Now something that I have noticed and I haven seen this at all so I can talk about how the transfers are or anything yet because we just received this today just a few hours ago And so we haven't really jumped into it at all. We're just talking about it today. We're going to do a full written review at Classic Cinema Plus, so you'll want to check that out. But anyway, so this is all three seasons. And I love what they did here, what Mill Creek did here, in the fact of they broke all three seasons up and they did something really, really cool. The season one is in a blue hue discs, all four seasons or all four discs of season one. Then there's a green hue for season two, all four discs. And then there is a purple hue to the disc for the final season, season three of two discs. Of course, season three was shorter than the other two, of course. But anyway, so that is pretty cool. Well, I suppose you're right in a way, Walt. Sure, I'm right. Now, what is also very, very cool with this Blu-ray set is that there are brand new interviews and featurettes with the series creator, director, and crew. That is awesome. And there's also deleted scenes included in this. This is a really massively cool little set. I am very, very looking forward to check this out, see how it looks on Blu-ray. I like it. I like it. As we're reading on the box, it is pretty cool. You're getting the 1080p for your widescreen televisions, high-definition televisions, but they are in their original full-screen format, which is so cool. So often what happens is you get that stretched-out picture. Okay, Sequest was never produced in widescreen, so to have it in widescreen to stretch out that picture would really mess that up really bad. I'm glad they did the 1080p, but left it in its original full screen format. Yes, you're going to have the black bars on the sides, but that is okay because that's the way it was originally planned to be. No problem there. The audio is a DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0. Very cool. And English subtitles for the deaf and hard and hearing. That's pretty cool. Well, you lost me quite some time. Yeah 45 hours in length So this is going to take me a pretty good chunk of time to get through this So I looking forward to taking adventures into the sea with the crew of SeaQuest Yeah, that is pretty, pretty awesome. Loving what Mill Creek is doing. uh mill creek is really really bringing the classic and the new classics uh to uh to blu-ray and i'm loving it um just here recently a little bit ago they they brought the whole complete series of magnum pi which was awesome uh they've done um the i dream of genie uh on blu-ray they they're they're bringing back the classics and even the new classics like sequest and bringing them in Blu-ray and on Blu-ray so that we can enjoy them in high definition. And to me, that is really, really, really awesome. I'm loving it. I'm loving it. Like I said, this is pretty cool. I love the slip cover. I love that beautiful artwork on that slip cover. It just pops. It's really popping. Now, if you're listening to the audio, you'd have to go to Amazon or deep discount or whatever and check out the artwork or millcreekent.com you can check it out there but um if you're watching a video you can uh see how awesome that artwork is and like i said i love this this artwork on the inside how that's different that is so so very cool such an amazing uh looking box set i i'm excited about it so uh yeah we're we're seeing all kinds of cool stuff here. Just to go through something real quick, creating sequest is a featurette, which is really, really cool on disc one. Directing sequest, that's pretty cool. And directing sequest continuing on disc three. So you got two and three directing sequest featurettes, pretty, pretty cool, oh, there's, well, there's another one, this, uh, disc four, uh, brings you, uh, directing Sequest, uh, again, so this is pretty cool, uh, different versions of, uh, from people, uh, talking about how they directed, uh, episodes of Sequest, that's pretty, pretty awesome, uh, yeah, I'm, I'm loving this, this is, uh, as you can see, I'm just kind of watching, looking at it as I'm talking here on our podcast. So this is, this is pretty, pretty cool. And like I said I love the way that they Mill Creek did this with the different color schemes so that you have different color schemes for each season That is really really awesome Uh Sometimes you get just the straight disc and you just get the straight disc without the different color schemes I like the way they do that. A lot of the different companies are doing that now, which makes it kind of neat that they break it up so that you have different color schemes for each season. They did that with the Batman set. And many different classic sets. They've been doing the different color schemes. The companies have been doing that. I'm glad that Mill Creek is doing that as well. Pretty, pretty cool. So, yeah, this is going to be a lot of fun. Looking forward to checking Sequest out. And, yeah. So be sure to keep your eyes open to Classic Cinema Plus.
