Greetings, classic cinema and TV fans. This is Jason Locker and Pastor Jay here with you once again bringing you another Silver Screen Spotlight. That's right. We are back with you once again, bringing you another look at some new releases on Blu-ray from some classic type of films. And we have two brand new releases, and we are so excited about it. We first off want to thank the good folks at MVD Visual Entertainment Group for sending these our way so that we can share them with you. But we're going to jump into these. Both of these releases are from Ronin Flicks. And I've reviewed quite a few of Ronin releases. And I'm always impressed with the quality that they put out. So these are really, really interesting. So let's go ahead and start with the comedy that is like off the wall. And then we'll get to the one that's more nostalgic for me. Um, this one is, uh, pretty interesting. This is Martin Short in Clifford. Now, Martin Short is known for his short stature, okay? Um, Martin Short is, is not a very tall actor. He's, um, a little bit, little bit small. Um, not, not tiny, but, you know, a little bit small. In this film, however, he takes his small stature to new heights with a role that he plays a 10-year-old boy. This one is absolutely hilarious. Okay, Clifford is a rambunctious 10-year-old boy that goes to spend the summer with his uncle, or at least a little bit of the time with his uncle, as he wants to go to Dinosaur Land, a big amusement park and all. And his uncle is very, very busy, and every time he turns around, he goes, well, I'll get you there. And so there's a lot of back and forth between the two. Um Martin his uncle gets more and more irritated as Clifford gets more and more frustrated with not being able to go to Dinosaur Land And so he starts to act out and do all kinds of just not nice things right Just picking and nothing horrible, but just picking, you know, and acting out as children do. And then there becomes this big war between the two of them. And it's a really hilarious film, and Martin Short is just great. Well, Martin Short's great in anything he does, but this one, he really does shine. I love this. Now, Clifford, this release, doesn't come with a lot of bonus features, okay? So that's a little bit of a downer, but it's still the idea of getting Clifford on Blu-ray and it looking spectacular and that it does. Now, one of the bonus features or one of the features that is pretty cool is we get two separate type of artwork. Now, that to me, I love the different artwork, right? So this is the artwork here, okay? And this is kind of cute because I love that it's on the case there. It says this. What's the difference between Clifford and a pit bull? One will tear your heart out, scare your friends, and wreck your house. The other one is a dog. Yes, that's so true. So this is hilarious. This is a really funny film. But I love that artwork. That's pretty cool. But not only that, but you get different artwork as well. You get this artwork here if you would prefer that kind. Okay? So that's pretty cool. So two different pieces of artwork. And, yeah, I'm looking forward to reliving this one again. I remember watching this a long time ago, and I haven't seen it in, like, forever. But I did pop it in and look at it. Just kind of skip through it a little bit and just kind of look at it. The transfer looks pretty, pretty amazing. So, yeah, very much so looking forward to jumping into this totally and checking that out. So, yeah, Clifford from Ronan Films. And then the one that I haven't seen since I was a kid, okay? This one there are some films that are I said this in my review okay so I already reviewed this one so and you can read the full review at Classic Cinema Plus But this one is very interesting because sometimes there are films that are nostalgic and there's that nostalgia for the film, and it's not really a good film. But it holds a special place in your heart because it's that nostalgia, right? I have nostalgia for the film because I watched this with my family as a young kid, But I remember it, but as I watched it again, I was like, this is a pretty good film. So it's not nostalgia talking. It really is a good film. And this one we're talking about is The Heavenly Kid. So I remember this one so much. There is a rebel, shall we say. They like to say here on the case, the write-up, a rebel without a cause. Okay, that's probably true. But I think of rebel without a cause, and I always think of James Dean. But anyway, I'll accept that. And the rebel is Bobby Fantana. Okay, so back in the day, in the 50s and the 60s, there was a lot of things where kids would race cars and play chicken, right? And many people, sadly, would die in car crashes because of these races and because they didn't want to prove that they were chicken, right? Well, Bobby Fantana was one of those guys, and he actually crashed his car and dies. he finds himself at the gates of heaven and before he can enter into the gates of heaven he must help another kid kind of come out of his shell and be a little more bold and a little more you know a little more of a not not a bad guy but a little more assertive if you will not be so much of an introvert, if you will. And that boy is Lenny Barnes, right? So this is interesting. This film stars in this film is Richard Mulligan. And I love Richard Mulligan. Richard Mulligan, many people in this generation might know him from Empty Nest. Maybe you remember him from the classic TV show Soap from back in the day. That was a classic show. Or you may remember him from the hilarious film Scavenger Hunt. Oh, one of my favorites. Absolutely one of my favorite films Love that film So hilarious But anyway there is so many great actors in this film And the thing is just so so so cool I love this film for what it is It is just one of those films that when I watched it as a kid, and as I grow up, I always remembered that. See, we went to the video rental store and we saw this and we picked it up and we took it home and watched it. I remember that as a child and I've remembered that all these years. But I have never been able to find The Heavenly Kid on DVD. In all my times of looking, I've never been able to find it on DVD. And so that's why I was like, okay, when I saw Ronin Films was releasing it and it's from a new master, I was like, oh, please. So we finally got that, our copy. And what an amazing looking film it is. It looks spectacular. It looks absolutely spectacular. This new master looks amazing. The colors and the picture quality is bright and it's vibrant and there's really no damage to the print. It just looks amazing. There's also brand new bonus features with interviews from the stars Lewis Smith and Nancy Volland. There's also a brand new audio commentary from the director. And there's the original trailer all included in this release. I absolutely love this thing. I think this is probably one of the best things I've seen for nostalgia, if you will, at least for me. I just love it. So if you're a fan of those old 80s and 90s films, definitely check out Clifford and The Heavenly Kid. It really is pretty, pretty cool. Be sure to go to Classic Cinema Plus to get the full reviews of these releases. And until we see you next time with another Silver Screen Spotlight, we want to remind you to like, share, and subscribe. We would appreciate it.
