Greetings Classic Cinema TV fans, this is Jason Lockhart here with you once again bringing you another Silver Screen Spotlight. Today is an interesting one as we are not only highlighting a new release but we're also comparing releases. This one we're talking about is the new release Canadian Bacon on Blu-ray starring John Candy. Now, I've loved John Candy forever. Whether it was Planes, Trains, and Automobiles, or Who's Harry Crumb, or Uncle Buck, or whether it's just the multiple movies that he was in. Whatever the case is, whenever he was on screen, I couldn't take my eyes off him. He was just a presence on screen. And so I was really excited when I heard about Canadian bacon on Blu-ray. Now, the interesting thing is before this was even announced, we had picked up this release of Canadian bacon. And I have to be honest with you, this one, I was like, okay, I'll take it. We picked this up at Dollar Tree, even though now it's not Dollar Tree, it's more Dollar 25 tree. But anyway, that's another issue for another video. But anyway, we picked this up, and this is from MGM. Now, okay, so I was excited about it. I was like, well, at least it's Canadian bacon, till I got it home, and I realized that this is the worst release, the worst kind of release I ever seen in my life I bought a whole bunch of these type of releases from MGM We talking like Eight Heads in a Duffel Bag Kid Galahad starring Elvis Presley, let's see, Collision Course with Steve Irwin. So many of these release I picked up from MGM thinking, well, these are going to be pretty cool. Got them home and realized there's no DVD menu on these. Now, I know to some people it would be like, ah, big deal. I like the DVD menu. I like to pop the DVD in or the Blu-ray in and wait for it and then have it load, go get me some popcorn or whatever the case may be, come in, hit the movie and start it off. That's what I like. This you can't do that with. You got to load it up and then just sit there and press pause and then, you know, go away. I mean, I know that's minor, maybe to some people, but I personally don't like it. I like the DVD menus. I really do. To me, it's just not that spectacular to me. I just don't particularly care for it. But anyway, so I was excited when MVD decided to release this on Blu-ray because, number one, it's going to have a Blu-ray menu, and number two, it's going to be a Blu-ray. So you know you're going to have a better quality as well. This is a really fun film. It basically is about a president whose ratings have gone down really, really bad, and he's talked into starting a war with Canada. So that's the idea of Canadian bacon. And interestingly enough, the president here is played by Alan Oliva And so that pretty cool You get John Candy and you get an appearance by Dan Aykroyd in here as well as many other great actors including Rhea Perlman from Cheers So much. So it's a really fun release. So definitely something you're going to want to check out. Now, I have I haven't watched this Blu-ray yet. We will do a full written review on Classic Cinema Plus. So you want to know about that, you'll need to go and check out that Blu-ray review very, very soon. but I have kind of like popped and gone across a little bit, and I did some comparison between the DVD and the Blu-ray, and from what I have seen, I would say that this one does look a little bit better than the DVD release. This one, I don't know if it's, I'm not saying it's bad, but it looks like it's been like scrubbed a little bit maybe or something. I don't know. I mean, I may be wrong there, but it doesn't look as crisp. This, however, it looks like you see a little more film grain. I don't know. I'm going to do more detailed research on it as I'm getting ready for the review. But my first look at it, this looks a whole lot better, in my opinion, than this release. And plus, like I said, the thing that really disgusts me is there's no DVD menu here. Okay. But MVD did do something very special with this. We get you a very special slipcover. Okay. Now, the interesting thing is with this Blu-ray, you get two types of artwork. You get this kind of artwork or you get this This is more of the actual movie poster okay artwork which I really like So that is why we are slipping that in and doing that to where we can have two different kinds of artwork, slip cover, regular artwork. Very cool. Also with the release, the DVD release is just a great DVD where the Blu-ray has more of a cool cover. There we go. That's pretty cool. So yeah, and also with this release, you do get theatrical trailer, the theatrical trailer for Canadian Bacon, as well as some other trailers for MVD releases. So that's pretty cool. So check out Canadian Bacon from MVD. I think you're going to like it. I know you'll like it better than this one. I know I did. I like it a whole lot more than that one. I cannot, I just personally, I cannot recommend this one. I just, I'm definitely recommending this one. Definitely. So anyway, but look out for the full written review at Classic Cinema Plus.
