I'm going to bring this, my Bible, up to me so I can read it to you. And it says in verse 1, it said, I said, I will take heed to my ways that I sin not with my tongue. I will keep my mouth with a bridle. While the wicked is before me, I was dumb with silence. I heard my peace, even from good, and my sorrow was stirred. My heart has not within me. While I was Musing the fire burned them Spake I was with my tongue Lord make me to know my Mine in and the measure of my Days what it is that I May know how frail I am Behold thou hast made my days as a hand breath, and mine age is as nothing before thee. Verily every man at his best state is altogether vanity. Surely every man walketh in a vain show. Surely they are disquainted in vain. He heapeth up riches and knoweth not who shall gather them. And now the Lord wait. What wait I for my hope is in thee. Deliver me from all my transgressions. Make me not the reproach of the foolish. I was dumb. I opened up not my mouth because thou didst it Remove thy stroke away from me I am consumed by the blow of thine hand Okay let me go ahead and flip the page here And we can get over to the next few verses. It says, when thou will rebuke this correct man for iniquity, Thou hast made his beauty to consume away like a moth. Surely every man is vanity. Hear my prayer, O Lord, and give ears unto my cry. Hold not thy peace, my tears, for I am a stranger with thee, a sojourner, as of all my fathers were. Oh, spare me that I may recover strength before I go hence and be no more. So let's read into some of the commentaries and see where we can bring some knowledge, more knowledge into these scriptures, these verses. So let's go ahead and go back into our commentary. And it says here, David resolved to keep his tongue from sin. That is, he decided not to complain to other people about God's treatment on him. David certainly had reason to complain. He was the anointed king of Israel. but he had to wait many years before taking the throne. Then one of his sons tried to kill him and become king instead. But when David could not keep still any longer, he took his complaints directly to God. We all have complaints about our jobs, money, relationships, and many other situations, but complaining to others might make them think that God cannot take care of us. It may also look as if we are blaming God for our troubles. Instead, like David, we should bring our complaints directly to God. He can take it. And then 39.4, life is short. No matter how long we live, if we have something important we want to do, we must not put it off for it is a better day or something. Life is short. Life is short. No matter how long we have or we live, if we have something important we want to do, we must not put it off for a better day. Ask yourself, if I had only six months to live, what would you do? Tell someone that you love him or her. Deal with an undescriptional area in your life. Tell someone about Jesus because life is short. don't neglect what is truly important. So we see there, there's two things that's, don't let us take our complaints to people. You know, I know we do, I'm a blame for that. I complain, yeah, I complain a lot, and I shouldn't do that in front of people. I should take that to God. and another thing is life is short you know life is so short we just don't realize it you know I heard from one of the an old pastor said one time you know a lot of people if they knew where they was going to die they wouldn't step there you know because they don't want to die but just remember one thing. Don't put it off what's important today, right? Because it may not have a second chance to do what you want to do tomorrow. God don't promise that. If you got something important that you want to do today then do that And see what 39 through 5 through 6 says It says the brevity of life is a thing throughout the book of Psalms Proverbs and Ecclesiastes Jesus also spoke about it in Luke 12, 20. Anarcheonically, many people spend much time securing their lives on earth, but give little or no thought to where they will spend eternity. David realized that amazing riches and bustling accomplishments worldly tasks would take no difference in eternity. Few people understand that their only hope is ultimately in the Lord. The answer to this question of the meaning of life cannot be found in the world or made up of ourselves. For others' verses on the vervidity of life, see Ecclesiastes 2.18 and James 4.14. okay so here we are looking at riches and things of this world you know so many people are wrapped up in this world right that they're not spending time with god where riches and famine and all that will not be be taken away you know and it's god's anyway you know the bible teaches if a man seek him first. All these things on this earth will be added unto him. You know, we need to seek God first, not what we want, but what he wants. Let's change that around a little bit, okay? Let's get our life organized correctly. Let's put God first, then ask God for what we want down here or what we need. God knows what we need. The problem is we're not asking him. We're just going out and doing what we want, right? So let's go ahead and get our priorities straight. And in 39.10 it says, what did David mean when he asked God to stop punishing him with the bellow of his hand. This is likely a, let me go ahead and flip this page, a picture of the difficulties of sickness David was facing that made him feel as though he were being struck. eventually David thought God was disciplining him and punishing him for his sins. David was expressing his feelings to God, yet he also submitted himself to the discipline of his powerful and loving Heavenly Father. so does God discipline us does he in fact correct us yes he does God disciplined his children and if they get out of hand it's called chastising and you know lots of times even me walk away from God you know and God does this we walk away but then he brings us right back right here and he says okay hey wait a minute you know we need to get realigned here you know he puts things in front of us to say wait stop hold and when we jump over that fence and we just do what we want then we've got a problem with the father and we got to come to him and ask for forgiveness, you know, and he is righteousness and his forgiveness and he'll forgive us of our sins. But see, here's the thing a lot of people don't understand is when God, Jesus Christ, when he forgives us of our sins, we are forgiven, but there's consequences for those sins. Because if you look back at Adam and Eve, right, when Adam and Eve what sinned The consequences was what They got kicked out of the garden right Every time that we sin against God yes he forgive us but there a consequence There's something that's going to happen from that sin, okay? so in Psalms okay 39 12 David rightly recognized that all of us are guests on this earth traveling passing through because of our ultimate ultimate home is our new earth heaven with God for eternity. This perspective should change the way you live, how temporary our present lives are. But while our time here is short, the effects of what we do can be eternal. You know, we're here for a very, like I said, I just read for a very short time. And what we do here, right, affects for eternity, you know, because God sees everything that we do, you know, everything. He is opposition. He is everywhere. So what are you doing today? are you building treasures here on earth are you building treasures in heaven are you making a change in your life to help those around you you know what I hope and pray that you are I hope and pray that you are making a change right now let's not do complain let's not be bitter. If we do have complaints, remember, take it to God. Remember, as David did, go to God. Don't do things on your own. Go to God to help you. Because it's a very short time. Remember, tell somebody today that you love them and that you're praying for them, you know, it means a lot. We're living in a hurting world, you know, so take that time and be praying today for others. Take that time and be spending building treasures in heaven, right? Because we are like we are, like he said here, David says he rightly recognized that all of us are guests on this earth, traveling, passing through, because our ultimate home is a new earth, heaven, with God for eternity. The perspective should change the way we live, how temporary our present lives are. But while our time here is short, the effects of what we do can be eternal the effects of what we can do can be eternal let's pray dear Heavenly Father we just thank you so much Lord for your daily devotion Lord I pray Lord that it has helped someone today I pray for the ones that are out there on the highways the ones that's in the big rigs Lord and I know Lord it's hard for them because they have to stop on a dime Lord sometimes and lord it's and they got all kinds of people who drive crazy i just pray for the ones that are in the trucks lord going up down the highway lord and i pray lord for uh all our listeners and all lord that there's people that can't get out and they're struggling lord and and some of them are feeling alone because family members don't come around as often as they they should I pray for the ones the widows the ones that are all by themselves Lord I pray that Lord that you just give them peace Lord and I pray Lord for this coming Thanksgiving Lord let us be more thankful Lord let us be more giving and let us not complain Lord hold our tongues and let us change our tongues to a loving tongue, you know. I just pray, Lord, that you are watching over us, and Lord, that you are taking care of us. And Lord, we just thank you so much, Lord, that you are in control of all situations. We just thank you so much for this time. In Christ's name I pray, amen.
