Greetings, Classic Center on TV fans, this is Jason Lockhart here with you once again. This is a special edition of the Silver Screen Spotlight. We're actually talking about the small screen spotlight today because we're actually talking about a classic TV series that it's actually a newer classic TV series that I love so very much. And, you know, we are right at that time of the year where right now, as we're recording this, we are just starting to hit into the NFL postseason. So, yeah, so we're starting to get into that final countdown to the big game, the Super Bowl, right? Well, as I was looking at this and I was thinking, okay, what should we spotlight? I thought, what better thing to spotlight than one of my favorite type of TV shows? It's a sports show and it's a comedy show. It is Coach. I absolutely love this show, okay? This show really became one of my favorites over the years. when I was growing up, I would watch it with my mom and my dad. And I would watch this, and it was just so amazing. I fell in love with the characters and all, and it was just amazing. Good folks at Mill Creek Entertainment decided to release the entire series of Coach. And I have to be honest with you, it is literally spectacular. I love this so much. It is 18 discs It right there 18 discs the entire series all of the seasons on 18 discs Now of course, they're in this type of a thing and they are like this. Okay. So, you know, granted, a lot of people really cannot stand these. And I understand it. It would be better if we had a better packaging, if you will, than this. But, I mean, to me, this is fine because the fact that it takes up a whole lot less space, in my opinion. I just love the fact that it takes up a whole lot less space. Nine seasons. Amazing. Nine seasons in a box set that is only this big. Okay. That's pretty amazing. For someone that is like me, that has multiplied probably hundreds of thousands of movies and TV series and box sets. This is amazing to me to be able to get all nine seasons on something so slim and trim that you can just stick it on the shelf. I mean, that to me is a win for me. The quality of these are pretty good. When you think about a show that was in the the 80s into the 90s, and it was not, you know, at that time they were not shot on HD, let's be honest. So this was standard definition and all. These look pretty amazing to me for the quality that they were originally shot on. So it's pretty good, in my opinion. I enjoy it. The show follows Craig T Nelson who plays coach Hayden Fox of the Minnesota Screaming Eagles And it a college football team and his desire to build that team to the national championship And, of course, going through all the problems of being a coach at a college, having to deal with the kids at the college, you know, all the different types of things. And also having one of his assistant coaches being involved with the ladies, one of the ladies coaches that he cannot absolutely stand. It's it. And there's a lot of banter between them. And then, of course, him trying to balance being a father to a daughter who has now entered into the Minnesota State College and being that absentee father for many, many years and then, you know, her coming in and having to balance that along with being involved with a lady that is an anchorwoman on the news and balancing that, and there's just so much going on. And then, of course, the show would progress as the years went on, and he would eventually move to the NFL as a coach of an expansion team. And I even enjoyed that. That was a great thing for me. I enjoyed that. So the whole series was just great, and I really, really enjoyed it. And I just want to just spotlight this show and just say, you know what, it's a great show. There is sometimes some adult themes that they deal with in this show. So not all episodes are for children or for young adults or whatever but there are a little bit adult themes sometimes in the comedy But it still is a really really great show When you compare this show to a lot that you see in this day and age this show seems very very tame So anyway I just wanted to spotlight this, one of my favorite TV shows, and I wanted to say thanks to Mill Creek Entertainment for releasing this on DVD. I would love to have seen it on Blu-ray, but let's be honest, it just doesn't, it doesn't warrant it because it was not shot in HD. So putting them on HD and Blu-ray would not do any good. It would just be putting more discs on, more shows on a disc and just, but as far as the upgrade, there wouldn't really be an upgrade in picture quality or anything. So, but anyway, I'm happy with it. I want to thank Meal Creek Entertainment for releasing this so that we have all nine seasons to relive time and time again of one of my favorite shows, Coach. All right, so that's just a little look back at one of my favorite TV shows from yesteryear, from my childhood, Coach.
