Greetings, classic cinema and TV fans. This is Jason Lockhart here with you once again bringing you another Flashback Friday. That's right, we're talking about three new releases from Warner Archive. I really enjoy what Warner is doing. Warner has been really bringing a lot of the classic films to classic movie fans and bringing them on Blu-ray, which is so, so awesome. And we requested three of them to share with you for this month. And my goodness, what an amazing trilogy here. Well, it's really not a trilogy, but it's three movies that we really, really enjoy. and was excited to see on Blu-ray. The last one we're going to talk about is the main event. So we'll save, in my opinion, the best for last. But all of these are really, really a lot of fun to watch. We first start off with a pretty fun little film. It's kind of a comedy drama, and it is entitled Wife vs. Secretary. You talk about a star-studded cast here. I mean, this one has got it covered, man. I mean, we're talking about the great Clark Gable, amazing Gene Harlow and Myrna Loy, and a very young Jimmy Stewart all in this release. Basically, it's about a wife, Linda Stanhope, who trusts her husband, but her husband Van has a kind of beautiful blonde bombshell type secretary. and she trusts him. That isn't until one time when he's on a special trip, a business trip, and she calls his hotel room, and guess who answers the phone? Uh-oh. Yeah, the trouble in paradise, shall we say. It kind of a fun little comedy drama and yeah it pretty cool not very long It only 87 minutes long So it real fast and goes along real fast and all But it's pretty cool. And on Blu-ray, that's pretty awesome. And for bonus features, we got some pretty cool bonus features. We got the Oscar-winning short Crime Doesn't Pay. And the public pays. That's pretty cool. And of course, the theatrical trailer is on this. I love when they put the shorts on here. Those are something that we don't see releases of. And that's a shame. The little short films, the little short releases, those were pretty cool in a lot of ways. And yeah, we don't see them a lot. So Warner Archive is kind of giving us some of those releases on these as bonus features. And I think that's so awesome. So yeah, Wife vs. Secretary, the first one. Then there is an amazing drama entitled Goodbye, Mr. Chips. Okay, so this film, I'm going to read a little bit of it for you because it's just pretty cool. Since the time of Sir Francis Drake, English lads have come to Brookfield School as frightened boys and emerged years later as able young men ready to shoulder the burdens of the empire. The best of England is the Brookfield tradition. A tradition embodied by the aging headmaster affectionately known as Mr. Chips. Very, very cool. In this, Mr. Chips is coming on the end of his career, and it kind of tracks his life. I actually, I have to be honest with you, I've actually never seen this film because I've always wanted to, and something has always gotten my way. I've seen it on television or something and have wanted to do it or meant to set up a DVR or something and just never did it. And I just kept passing it by and finding, oh, I should have done that. And I just never got a chance to check it out. So this is going to be really really cool Finally getting to check out Goodbye Mr Chips Always something I wanted to see and just never got around to it So that pretty cool Yeah, it is. It's going to be a lot of fun. I love this. So getting to see Goodbye Mr. Chips is really, really cool. It includes the theatrical trailer on this as well. So that's pretty cool. So, yeah, Goodbye Mr. Chips. That's pretty cool. Now for the main event. it's time for the main event i know yeah it's uh this one to me is the main event this is the one when i saw that warner archive was releasing this i was like so excited i was like i have got to have this on blu-ray uh yeah so we're talking about this here the long, long trailer. Lucy and Desi, you have got to be kidding me. Really? Yes, that is so awesome. Now, I Love Lucy is probably one of my favorite sitcoms. I really enjoy I Love Lucy. Lucy and Desi had a real good chemistry together. And they made several little films together as well, even though they were doing I Love Lucy. And my favorite, of course, is this one, Long Long Trailer. Forever Darling is a good one as well. But Long Long Trailer is just funny. It's just really, really good. It stars Lucy and Desi, of course, with their idea of being newlyweds, and they decide they're going to buy a trailer and just on honeymoon just travel the country. Seems like a good plan, except it's a trailer. And it's, you know, in a trailer you don't have as much space as you do in a house or a condominium or whatever. So it's a little bit squeezy. The places are a little, you know. And so they're trying to learn to, you know, survive in here and get around each other in these small confined spaces. And trying to drive this trailer down little roads and back roads and all this and getting stuck and everything. It's a lot of fun. It is a really really fun little film Um I think the one that I love about this uh is there really really great character actors that are in this film There Keenan Wynn Keenan Wynn was, of course, in many of Lucy's films. They teamed up together in many films during her MGM years. And then there's Marjorie Mayne. Marjorie Mayne, an amazing actress. but probably best known, at least for many, or by me anyway, she's best known as playing Ma Kettle in the Ma and Pa Kettle series of films. Such a great comedy series. If you've never seen any of the Ma and Pa Kettle films, definitely, definitely check them out. They are spectacular. They're so great. But anyway, so that's a great addition to this cast. Pretty cool. 96 minutes, not too long, and it runs really fast because it's really, really well done. And then there's amazing bonus features. Just check out these bonus features. We get the vintage Pete Smith specialty short. Ain't it aggravating? I love that. I love these Pete Smith shorts. Those were some of the most fun little things was Pete Smith shorts. I love those. There's also a classic cartoon from Droopy. I didn't love Lil Droopy. This is Dixieland Droopy. Pretty cool. And then, of course, the theatrical trailer. So Warner Archive really went above and beyond here and gave us a lot of really cool stuff with this. Cartoon, Pete Smith short, a theatrical trailer. So this is like going to the movies back in the day, you know. This is pretty cool. I love it. So there you go. So those are these three amazing new releases from Warner Archive. Yeah, I'm excited about these. So, yeah, we're going to have full written reviews for all three of these Blu-rays coming up at Classic Cinema Plus. Be sure to go there and check out all the reviews.
