Transcript: Rainman 4K Blu-ray Review Flashback Friday

Greetings classic cinema and TV fans this is Jason Lockhart here with you once again bringing you another flashback Friday and today we are talking about amazing amazing new release coming from the good folks at MBD. This is the Marquee Collection. This is pretty, pretty cool in association with MGM. This is a new 4K Blu-ray set, and this is pretty interesting. This is Rain Man. Okay, so this is an interesting film. This is one of those films that has a deeper thing to it, a deeper story to it. It's saying something. And those are always kind of interesting to watch. It follows Charlie Babbitt, who is played by the great Tom Cruise. And he has just discovered that he has an autistic brother named Raymond, played by Dustin Hoffman. So very, very cool. So we see Dustin Hoffman of The Graduate and, of course, Tom Hanks from Mission Impossible movies, Top Gun, countless films. We won't talk about The Mummy. But anyway, it's kind of an interesting thing. It becomes like a buddy film, if you will. These two brothers just going on a road trip together and Charlie trying to understand how to deal with a brother that is dealing with autism And it interesting It sounds really really interesting Now, the reason I said it sounds very interesting is because, full disclosure, I have never seen this film. Okay, now, the reason I've never seen this film is because I've always meant to but just never got around to do it. It's been on television. It's been, you know, to where you could DVR it or whatever. or sometimes I've seen it in the stores and it's like, I should pick that up and then something else catches my eye, right? There's just been things that have always gotten my way to where it's like, I never got a chance to watch it. So this is going to be my very first time watching Rain Man. And I have to be honest with you, I'm pretty excited about the fact that my first time of watching this film is going to be in the absolute best quality possible. That's going to be pretty amazing that that's going to be my first experience of watching this film. That's pretty cool. This film has been restored in 4K from the original negative and from MGM. And it's no doubt going to look spectacular. But this is really cool. Yeah, I mean, a whole restoration of this film and all approved by the director, which is really cool. You always want that. And, yeah, it's awesome. Slip cover. Okay. So we get a nice, pretty cool-looking slip cover. Okay. Same artwork on the discets or the insert itself. Okay. Now, let's just talk about the bonus features real quick, and then we'll talk why I love this release so much more. Okay? So we have a whole bunch of stuff here You get the brand restoration You get three commentaries three commentaries including one with the director Barry Levinson which is really really cool There is also, as I'm reading here, there's Blu-ray exclusives, bonus features, which I think makes this really, really cool, and I'll talk about that in a minute. But there's Blu-ray exclusives, including the Journey of Rain Man featurette and Lifting the Fog, a look at the Mysteries of Autism featurette. There's also a deleted scene and theatrical trailer. So pretty, pretty cool. What I love about this, what MVD Marquee Collection did here with this, is they gave us the 4K and the Blu-ray. Okay? That is really cool. as you can see right there. You get the Ultra HD and the Blu-ray. Now, why is that so cool? Okay, because probably everybody in the world, or the majority of them anyway, has upgraded to Blu-ray, right? So pretty much everybody, I think, in the world is doing Blu-ray in this day and age. There may be some, but most everybody is doing Blu-ray. But not everybody in the entire world has upgraded to 4K yet because you need the 4K player, the 4K television to do that. And some people have not done that yet. So that's why I think what MVD did here is so much cool. They're giving you the 4K and the Blu-ray so that if perchance you haven't upgraded to 4K yet, you can still get this release and see the restoration and see how good it looks. And then eventually when you do upgrade to 4K which we probably those of you that are watching that haven you probably will someday You know you never know But even if you don you still have the Blu And then if you do you have the 4K That what makes that so cool I love the fact that they put both of them on there so that you can enjoy it on Blu-ray if you haven't have the 4K, or you can watch it in 4K. That is so cool. So thank you, MVD, for that. That is so, so cool for you to do that. That is really awesome. Rain Man, I'm looking forward to because Rain Man won four Academy Awards, as you can see right there, four Academy Awards, including Best Picture. So this is probably going to be a pretty, pretty amazing little dramatic presentation. As we said, I've never seen it, so we don't know. We're going to, we're going to check it out. We're going to give you a full written review as soon as we watch this and check out the picture quality and all that kind of good stuff. So I'm looking forward to this. So I want to thank MVD for sending this my way. We just got it today. And so, yeah, I'm going to be checking that out and can't wait to see it.
