Greetings, Classic Cinema and TV fans. This is Jason Lockhart here with you once again bringing you another Flashback Friday. And today we're talking about one of my favorite doctors. Doctor who? Be sure to like, share, and subscribe. Let's jump into this. We have added two brand new things to the classic Cinema Plus studios of Doctor Who. I love Doctor Who. I grew up on Doctor Who for the simple reason that when I was a young teenager, I went to the library and I saw a DVD set of an adventure of Doctor Who starring Tom Baker. I was like, the cover just looked so amazing to me. I was like immediately transported into this adventure without even seeing an episode. And so I rented it, took it home, and I began to watch it, and I was literally enthralled with the adventure of Doctor Who. And ever since then, I've been watching more episodes of Doctor Who and adding Doctor Who episodes on DVD and Blu-ray whenever I find them. It's just been cool. And something that I've really been enjoying is the free Doctor Who channels. Sadly, I think that's going to go away because Disney, of course, has bought the streaming rights in the United States to Doctor Who. So I'm thinking we're going to lose all that Doctor Who channel. That's going to be a bit of a shame. But anyway, not much you can do. That's why I love physical media, because I have it and they can't take it from me. But anyway, I love going to Dollar Tree and different stores and the Goodwills and the pawn shops and different things and picking up episodes that I find on Blu-ray and DVD. And I went to Dollar Tree probably about a year ago, and I ran across a Series 10 Part 1 set of Doctor Who. I started digging around there trying to think, please let there be part two. Never could find part two. So, sadly, Series 10 Part 1 was all I had. Well, that is until I went to the Dollar Tree just here recently, and I found, guess what? That's right, Series 10 Part 2. There it is. Oh yes it is complete The complete 10th series or season however you prefer If you in the UK it series If you here in the United States it season so whatever But anyway, to see this completed now is so cool. This, of course, is the series with Peter Capaldi. I kind of enjoyed Peter Capaldi. um there's three that are really my favorite um Doctor Who's that I've watched over the years uh they all have something interesting to them but I think my three favorite are Peter Capaldi uh Matt Smith and of course Tom Baker is my favorite uh but they all are interesting in their own ways they all have something uh that they bring something different to the table but Those are, I think, my three favorite if I was going to have to be put down to just three. You can choose three. Those would probably be my three favorite, but they all have something very interesting about them. I am so excited that I got to see this and got to get this and complete the 10th series on DVD. That is so cool. Love that. But there is something very interesting here that I had seen, And that was that they were going to take Doctor Who in a different realm, into a realm that Doctor Who had never been before. Doctor Who has always been a male character. They were going to take him and make him a female character. And at first I wasn't exactly sure how I was going to feel about that. I was kind of torn about that because I was like, Doctor Who's always been male. I don't – and that's not that I'm against that. It's just I didn't know how I was going to feel about it. Being that I grew up on a male Doctor Who, how am I going to feel about a female Doctor Who? You know what I mean? I wasn't sure exactly how I was going to feel. So anyway, I ran across the fact that Big Lots was going to – had a Blu-ray set of the Doctor Who series featuring Jodie Whittaker. And I was like, do I want to do this? I don't know. I was really torn about this, really torn about this because I was like, it was $15 for the complete series. And I was like, I don't know. Do I want to spend the $15 for something that I may not like? I know it's not been overly well received by a lot of people. Some people like it, but a lot of people don't. And I was really torn about this Two old buddy of mine told me who works at Big Lots They said you know what you can stack coupons And I was like I can what And they said, yeah, you can stack coupons. If you go to Big Lots, you know that if you do a certain amount of buys at Big Lots, you get $5 off of $15. Okay. So I had two coupons. And I was like, well, dude, I had to get some milk bones for my dog, Jazz. So I was like, okay, let's do this. Okay, so I grabbed the Blu-ray of Doctor Who. I grabbed the Milk Bones and I grabbed, I think, some Mentos or something just to make $20 and went to the checkout. And so I picked up, yeah, I picked up Doctor Who with Jodie Whittaker. And with $10 off, that cost me basically $5. Okay, I'll try it. What am I out? really, okay? Yeah, so that's why I went ahead and did it. I've only watched the first disc so far, so I can't talk about the entire series yet, but I can talk about how I feel so far. The first episode was a little hard, seeing a female Doctor Who. At first, it was kind of hard watching it. But I have to say this, Jodie Whittaker has kind of a quirky way about her. She reminds me a lot of Tom Baker. And that is some high praise from me, because I love Tom Baker as Doctor Who. She kind of has that quirkiness of Tom Baker, in my opinion. And I like that. I like that. I thought it was pretty cool. First two episodes were a little bit hard going starting. They were kind of like clunky getting started. The third episode, however, was absolutely spectacular. The third episode is entitled Rosa. And it's about a time traveler that goes back in time and is trying to eliminate the civil rights build that Rosa Parks started. and Doctor Who and her companions are there to try to thwart that thing, to keep that from happening so that we don't eliminate the civil rights movement. That was a really great episode That was spectacular Just amazing Just great The next episode is entitled Arachnids in the UK And this is a sci-fi horror episode. Okay, so it's about giant spiders. I mean, humongous spiders. I mean, I'm going to tell you, I got a little bit of arachnophobia myself. If I saw this type of an arachnid in my house, I'd move out. I mean, I'm telling you, the thing is so humongous, man. I mean, it's like, oh, my goodness. Just give them the house, move out. I mean, for real, man. It's crazy. And there is a little bit of a nod to Vincent Price's movie, The Fly, even in this. these big humongous spiders spinning the cocoon around a human, a regular big human, big man, okay, spinning it around, and then he starts to drag him down. And as he's dragging, the guy begins to go, help me, help me, like that. And I thought, that's a nod to Vincent Price the Fly. Well done. I love it. I love it. You know, those are the things that make these series so, so cool. So, yeah, I wasn't overly sure I was going to like Jodie Whittaker as Doctor Who, but it's growing on me. I think it's going to be a pretty cool series. But I'm kind of glad I got this five bucks and added it to the collection. It's pretty cool. So there's just a little look at Doctor Who. Love Doctor Who. Question. Who's your favorite Doctor Who? Is it Matt Smith, Peter Capaldi? Do you like Jodie Whittaker? Or are you a Tom Baker fan? Or is it somebody else?
