Greetings, Classic Cinema and TV fans. This is Jason Lockhart here with you once again, bringing you another silver screen spotlight here on Classic Cinema Plus. Today we're going back a little bit and checking out some releases that MVD, the good folks at MVD, have sent And we got a couple of these just brand new today and a couple a little bit ago. But we want to kind of spotlight these because they're kind of interesting. So anyway, first off, we want to talk about this one. In a previous video, we kind of spotlighted a film entitled A Question of Silence, a foreign film. And this is the – this is not a sequel. I won't say it's a sequel, but it's the second film from the director. And this one is entitled Broken Mirrors. Kind of interesting, actually. It takes place in Amsterdam, and it is about a brothel and about these two ladies that kind of rebel against their lifestyle, their lot in life, if you will. And there's one of the customers, if you will, is a serial killer, and he kidnaps a housewife. And so it's a lot of mystery and intrigue and a lot of interesting things. Kind of an interesting-looking film. Um, this was a winner of the Netherlands Film Festival, uh, audience award, which is kind of interesting. Um, it's, uh, got a, uh, it's from a new, uh, 4K HD transfer from the original, uh, 35 millimeter, a negative and restored. Um, and, uh, yeah, kind of interesting. And there's, uh, some bonus features and all. So, uh, yeah, there you go. So if you did like A Question of Silence and you're looking for another film from Marlene Agoras, well, there you go. Broken Mirrors, kind of interesting. Yeah, so there you go. That's just a little, tell you what, there you go, a little first look. There's a look at the disc as well, same artwork in the disc. If you can get it to move around like it should, there we go. So same artwork on the disc that it is on the front cover. So there you go. So that interesting All right Then for horror movie fans there is this one What the waters left behind Scars. Okay. So this is more or less a sequel to the first film. And it's interesting because the way it's written, and we'll kind of edit it a little bit. But anyway, an Anglo-American indie rock band ends up stranded in a desolate city, and their internal conflicts and bad luck in their tour quickly fade when they begin to discover the trouble that awaits. Okay, so this is a horror film for those fans of horror movies. There you go. Again, same artwork on the disc as it is on the cover. So there you go. Interesting. Yeah. Yeah. Comes with bonus features of the trailer and the image slideshow. So there you go. From Cleopatra Entertainment. I should have said also this is from Cult Epics. There you go. All right. Now we're getting to the nitty-gritty of it. This is the big show for me right here. There – you know, a little bit ago we received the DVD version of a stop-motion animated film entitled Junkhead. and Junkhead, just to let you know, takes place in a dystopian future where people have figured out the ability to have long life, but it comes at a cost with infertility, okay? So they send out Junkhead, this kind of like android, if you will, to try to discover, go deep down into the bowels of the city and try to figure out what's going on and maybe find a cure, if you will. Really an interesting film. Now, the interesting thing, though, was that with the DVD release, Junkhead did not come with English subtitles. That was a mistake, of course. Sometimes that happens, okay? when you're encoding a mastered Blu-ray or DVD or whatever. Sometimes mistakes happen and it gets overlooked. That's typical. It happens, right? So anyway that was kind of a bad thing because because basically the the entire film is um um the language is an unknown alien language So you have a lot of grunts and groans and, you know, when they're talking, they're doing a lot of, and so you don't really know what in the world they're saying, right? So that was a mistake. And so they decided to fix that. They pulled the DVD and they said, we're not going to allow anybody to buy that. We're going to fix that. And so guess what has happened? Boom. Junkhead on Blu-ray. There you go. And yes, I have checked it. I've put it in the Blu-ray player and I've checked it out. It comes with the English subtitles. Now we have an idea of what's going on with the film. The film was amazing anyway. It really was. Even without being able to read the subtitles, you could still kind of figure out what was going on. But to actually be able to read the subtitles now and kind of follow along, it's going to make it even better. Really an interesting film. I have to tell you that if you have never seen Junkhead, you need to check that one out. If you're a fan of that stop motion animation, it is really, really spectacular. It's really a really fun little film and really great stuff. And I love what has happened with the Blu-ray as well is that there is bonus content of the making of Junkhead. So that's pretty cool as well. So, yeah, I love Ray Harryhausen's stop motion animation. I'm a big fan of that. So to me, this is really kind of a love letter to Ray Harryhausen. because it's – and there is something special about that old stop-motion animation for me. I just love it so much. So, yeah, I'm loving the fact that they have done this and they have given us Junkhead now on Blu-ray, and it comes with the English subtitles. That is so cool. So there you go. Yeah, Junkhead now on Blu-ray with the English subtitles. So cool. All right, now for the main event. This one, we have just done a full written review. You can get that at Classic Cinema Plus. You can get a link below. But this is, if you love old 50s sci-fi, it doesn't get any better than this. I mean, it really doesn't. Invaders from Mars. Wow. What an amazing science fiction film. This is from Ignite Films. They have done a complete brand new restoration of this film in 4K. And I have to tell you as we are on the this is unbelievable the 70th anniversary of this film This film was released in 1953 This is 2023 So this is 70 years old 70 years old this film is Now, I've seen this film before, and wow. To see it now in this 4K restoration, it's like insane how amazing this film looks. I mean, it looks better than I ever dreamed it could. I mean, it is so awesome. 50s sci-fi is often kind of campy. This one is not campy at all. This one actually is very terrifying in a lot of ways. And I have to be honest with you. They have just given us so much bonus features. I'm not going to go through all of them, but you can see right there. If I can get the glare off. Here is all the bonus features right there. Look at all these bonus features on this disc. I mean, that is amazing. Now, you can see all the bonus features on the full written review, but it is pretty awesome. All right, same artwork is on the disc as it is on the front cover, okay? But it also comes with a complete booklet that gives you all kinds of information about the restoration, about the film, the whole nine yards. It is just filled with good stuff. I mean, just filled with stuff. Some people haven't made that jump, you know. So if you haven't made that jump and you love science fiction of the 50s, don't worry. This is also available from the 4K restoration on Blu-ray and on DVD. So they've got you covered all the way around, which is pretty, pretty cool. Yeah, I love it. I love it. I think it is so awesome. So, yeah, if you're a fan of 50s sci-fi, definitely check out Invaders from Mars. It is that awesome. It really is really good.
