Greetings Classic Cinema TV fans this is Jason back with you once again bringing you another silver screen spotlight and today we're talking about a horror film that has some holiday flair to it yeah this if you're looking for a film that's got a little bit of the Christmassy spirit but a little bit of the Halloween terror to it this is going to be your kind of film be sure to like share and subscribe to our channel we would appreciate it so much and let's jump into this alright so today we're looking at the brand new release. This is The Mean One. All right. With this cover, you know exactly where you're going with this one. There's no doubt about it. No matter what, you know what this is. The Mean One. Okay. Let's be honest. The Mean One, what What is the mean one? Well, that's the Grinch. You know, from the old classic TV show, TV special that said, you're a mean one, Mr. Grinch, right? Dr. Seuss wrote an amazing kids book and it became an absolute classic at Christmas time of how the Grinch stole Christmas. So amazing of a film and so classic of a film that many years later, Jim Carrey and Ron Howard would bring us How the Grinch Stole Christmas. And Jim Carrey did an amazing job as the Grinch, I have to say. It's actually a really, really good film, and I really enjoy watching this every year of my life. It's pretty cool. but there's an interesting thing that is going on right now in cinema and that is taking childhood classics and switching them and kind of making them into bloody gory horror films I'm not sure how I feel about this I think if I'm not mistaken and if somebody knows better then please do write a comment and let me know But I think this phenomena started with the film Banana Splits the one that they did that was kind of the gory horror film of the Banana Splits I think that where that started I could be wrong if I am Somebody make a comment in below and let me know that I love to know if I wrong there But I think that where this started We have seen this beginning to happen now where a lot of our childhood films and TV series and book series and different things are being made into horror films. We've seen it with Winnie the Pooh, Blood and Honey. we're even seeing it now in many of the classic films being made into horror films I saw a report that they're going to take the classic Jimmy Stewart, Frank Capra, Donna Reed Christmas classic It's a Wonderful Life and switch it up and make it into a slasher called It's a Wonderful Knife to be honest with you I don't know how I feel about this um I hold so much love for the Grinch how the Grinch stole Christmas and the um the Jim Carrey um live action version uh that I don't know how I'm gonna feel about uh the mean one uh I just don't know um But anyway, let's talk about the mean one, though. Okay, so basically the mean one is the Grinch, okay, without being called the Grinch. Now, the reason it's not called the Grinch is because it is a copyrighted, trademarked thing, okay? Can't do that. I don't know why, unless the intellectual property, the look, is not copyrighted or trademarked. I don't know. Because this looks an awful lot like the Grinch to me. Maybe there's some slight, hesitant, little nuances that are a little bit different. I don't know. Maybe that's how they got away with it. I don't know. But to me, that looks like the Grinch. I don't know. But anyway, we know the story of the Grinch, How the Grinch Stole Christmas. This is kind of a remake, reboot, retelling in a slasher way. And it simply says this. One Christmas Eve in a sleepy mountain town, Cindy's parents are murdered and her Christmas is stolen by the mean one. A bloodthirsty green grouch in a red Santa suit. Fast forward 20 years later Cindy returns to Newville Okay stop for a second Newville not Whoville Again Whoville trademarked can do that so they switched it up made it Newville instead of Whoville Okay, she returns to Newville only for the mean one to launch a bloody reign of terror that threatens to destroy Christmas, lending Cindy a bold new purpose, trapping and killing the monster. Okay. It's an interesting idea. I don't know how I'm going to like this. I really don't know. We're going to take it and watch it and check it out. This is just a first look video. So I will say this is kind of interesting when you look at the disc. The disc looks really cool, though. It does look very, very intriguing. I have to say that. The disc looks very intriguing. I don't know. The film is presented in 1080p and in widescreen format. The soundtrack is a 5.1. There is English subtitles for deaf and hard of hearing. The film only runs about 93 minutes, so not very lengthy. It's not a real lengthy film. So that's probably a good thing as well, that it's not too much. I think with this type of a thing, if it would have went too much beyond a half an hour, I think this would have really suffered. So I don't know. Um, bonus features, uh, are deleted scenes. So that's probably a good thing. You get to see the deleted scenes, but you don't have to suffer through them. Probably. I don't know. I don't know how it's going to be. Uh, I haven't seen it yet. So we're going to, we're going to have a full written review of it coming up in a little bit at classic cinema plus. Um, I don't know. Now I will say this now I'm a type of reviewer that I don't, go into a film with a preconceived notion and what I'm going to already review for. Now, as much as I love the Grinch films, I'm not going into the mean one sitting here saying, okay, that's not this, I hate it. I'm not going to do that because that's just not fair. I'm going to watch this film in its entirety and give it a chance. And that's basically what you can, what all you can do. I will give it a full chance to impress me. And I hope I'm wrong. I hope I'm wrong. I hope by the time I'm done in the credits roll that I sit there and say, boy, I was pleasantly surprised I love this I can wait to check it out again I hope I am I don know That why we just wait and see So it's going to be interesting. Have you seen The Grinch? What are your thoughts on The Grinch, on the mean one? I keep wanting to say The Grinch because, like it or not, that's The Grinch. I'm sorry. That's The Grinch, man.
