Greetings, Classics Cinema TV fans. Jason back with you once again, bringing you another first look video at some really, really cool releases from the good folks at Kino Lorber Studio Classics, KL Studio Classics. Love it. Can't wait to dive into these. We have taken a quick look at them, and they are pretty impressive. We'll talk about that as we go forward. But, yeah, we want to talk about these. These are a little bit of everything for film fans. First off, let's take a look at this one. This one is pretty impressive, pretty amazing. I love classic horror and the classic horror actors. they are amazing to me and this one has a little bit of everything in it look at this this is house of long shadows and this has every one of the iconic horror actors in it I mean you got Vincent Price Peter Cushing Christopher Lee John Carradine and Desi Arnaz Jr Desi Arnaz Jr. Yeah, Desi Arnaz Jr. is in this. I know he's not a horror actor, but this is a pretty impressive little release. I love this. Desi Arnaz Jr. plays a young novelist who takes a bet that he can spend the night in this house, this haunted house, if you will, or this old castle, this manor. And in 24 hours, write a novel that will be a best-selling thriller. Well, little does he realize that the Grisbane clan have arrived to celebrate the 40th anniversary of their ghoulish family secret. Really an impressive little, fun little film, horror film. So I will tell you, I haven't seen this in a long time. Oh, my goodness. I haven't seen this in, like, forever. So this is going to be pretty cool to see it on Blu-ray in HD. I can't wait to jump into it again. I have taken just a quick little couple little looks at it. And, boy, does it look great. Oh, wow. It looks really impressive. From what I've seen of it, it looks really, the transfer looks pretty impressive. And, of course, Kino Lover Studio Classics never cease to amaze me in the quality that they put out. So no doubt I'm looking for a stellar release here. In this release though this comes with the slipcover I love this I love those slipcovers It the same artwork of course but I love when they give you a slipcover I think that pretty cool As far as the release goes, the release is presented in, of course, 1080p, you know, high definition. But there's, again, now get this, there's not one, but there's two audio commentaries. That is pretty cool. There's also a documentary with the cast and crew, which is the House of Long Shadows, the Long Shadows Revisited. That's going to be pretty cool to see. The theatrical trailer is on here, as well as Pete Walker's House of Horror, an interview with the director, Pete Walker. Very awesome. Very cool. Can't wait to check that out. That is House of the Long Shadows. Awesome stuff. All right. This one, I actually have never seen this film, and I'm looking forward to check this out. This is The Man Who Wasn't There. Okay. Pretty interesting. Uh, starring Steve Guttenberg, uh, of, of course, uh, uh, the, uh, Police Academy series. Um, but, uh, he stars as, uh, uh, Sam Cooper, uh, who becomes the object of a frantic chase when, uh, a dying secret agent hands him a vial containing a top secret formula that can render a person invisible. Uh, it looks like a fun little film. I can't believe I've never seen this. This is from the 80s, 1983, and I actually have never seen this. So I'm looking really, really forward to check this out. I have to tell you, as with everything that I do here, I do check out a quick couple little looks at the picture quality to see what it looks like, see what it sounds like. And boy, does this look great. It's from a new 4K scan of the original 35 millimeter camera negative, which is unbelievable. So the picture quality of this is like stellar. It's amazing. Love it. Love it. Same artwork with the slip cover there on the inside cover. We should also tell you that as with House of Long Shadows as well, you get your classic black and white disc, which I love. I love the classy black and white disc from Kino Lorber. I think that's so cool. Kind of sets them apart. And then, of course, but this is one thing I will say with this. This is in, as you can see, 3D, right? Okay, so check this out. We get the 3D glasses, and I love it because they are Kino Lorber Studio classics 3D glasses That pretty cool Again your classic black and white disc Very very cool Like I said that is what I saw of this Oh my does this thing look crisp and clear Wow It looks amazing Um presented in uh, both versions, which I think is very, very cool. You can, uh, you can get the 3d or the 2d if you prefer to not watch it in a 3d, you don't have to. Uh, and then it has a audio commentary as well. So this is pretty awesome. I can't wait to check that out. Pretty cool. Can't wait to see it. All right. Then the one that is the, if you will, the main event for me, I have always loved these films. And to see this, I had all of the six films, but I did not have this one. And when Kino Lorber sat there and said, oh, we're releasing this film, I was like, oh, I've got to have it. I've got to have it, got to have it, got to have it. And I'm talking Road to Hong Kong. Bing Crosby and Bob Hope starred in seven road movies. And if you've watched the road movies, you know what they are. They're just Bob Hope and Bing Crosby going into different places and just getting into trouble. Now, one of the major problems that I have with Road to Hong Kong, though, is the fact that it was always Bob Hope, Ben Crosby, and Dorothy L'Amour. Well, in Road to Hong Kong, they changed it up and made it with Joan Collins. I don't know. Of course, Dorothy L'Amour is in it, but the major emphasis is, of course, Joan Collins. I think they should have made the main emphasis continue with Dorothy a little more. I just think that would have been really cool. But they did what they did. Not much you can do. Vaudevillians Harry, played by Crosby, and Chester, played by Hope, travel to Tibet to search for a drug to restore Chester's memory. That's for into the thing, into the story. Once they find the cure, Chester's memory becomes so good that he accidentally memorizes the secret formula for space navigation. And soon the two meet up with a beautiful spy, played by Collins, and slightly get sidetracked to another planet. Pretty cool film. This is really not the greatest of the road movies. The best road movie, that's up for debate. Everybody has their favorite. I don't know what I would consider my favorite road movie of theirs. All of them are great. But, you know, but it was just so cool to see the Road to Hong Kong getting a Blu-ray release. I mean, that is so cool. Again I did take a quick check of it and the picture quality looks pretty impressive The transfer is really really good There is an audio commentary on this and the theatrical trailer So cool to be able to add this to the collection here and to complete the collection. Sadly, there was going to be an eighth film. Now, many of you may not know that, but there was going to be an eighth film of the road pictures. But sadly, it was going to be called The Road to the Fountain of Youth. But sadly, Bing Crosby suffered a fatal heart attack just before shooting of the film started. And then they just scraped it and said, we're not going to do it, which is good because I don't think we could have handled a Bob Hope and somebody else in the road pictures. They were iconic together. Bob Hope, Bing Crosby. They needed to stay there. So I think that's good that they didn't try to put someone else in there. As much as I would have loved to have seen more road pictures, their chemistry of Hope and Crosby was just so good. You don't want to mess that up with an additional film that is not with them. But a very, very cool film. I am so excited to check this out. Like I said, all of these look amazing from what I've seen. I have done little looks at the picture quality and the audio quality. The look and sound stellar. Kino Lorber always puts out great releases, and these are no different. Can't wait to do full written reviews of them.
