Transcript: Gomer Pyle USMC Blu-ray Review: A Classic Military Comedy

Welcome to Classic Cinema and TV fans. Jason back with you once again, bringing you another Classic Cinema Plus. Today we're talking about a classic TV show that has just received a Blu-ray release. I'm looking so forward to talking about it today. And I hope you'll join me as we talk about Gomer Pyle USMC on Classic Cinema Plus. All right, so Gomer Pyle was a spinoff, if you will, of the Andy Griffith Show. Andy Griffith, the Andy Griffith Show, who hasn't watched the Andy Griffith Show? Andy Griffith, Don Knotts, Andy and Barney Fife, you know, sheriff and deputy of the little small town of Mayberry, North Carolina. Just a homespun, just down to earth, just a great little sitcom. But it had filled with awesome characters in the show. And one of them was Gomer Pyle, the local, you know, guy that works at the filling station pumping gas and stuff like that. But in the Andy Griffith Show, one episode, Gomer Pyle felt like it was time for him to do his duty to his country and, you know, do his turn at military service. So thus became Gomer Pyle USMC. And Gomer Pau USMC would run for five seasons. It been released on DVD of course and this is a whole entire series of Gomer Pau on DVD here that we have This is the whole series all five seasons And, you know, it's interesting because Gomer Pau, just that country bunking, you know, in the Army, and, you know, Sergeant Carter trying to get him to be a soldier and him just being Gomer. And it ran for amazing five seasons, so much fun, and was just a great, fun little series. Great spinoff to The Andy Griffith Show. Now, the interesting thing is that Gomer Pyle USMC was released on DVD, as we said, and this is the entire series on DVD. And I love that, every single one of them. So cool. So just a fun series, just a real fun series. You know, great characters, you know, Duke and Sergeant Carter and all the other characters of Gomer Powell. Just an amazing little fun series. Well, interestingly enough, Paramount Pictures, Home Entertainment and CBS has brought us now Gomer Powell USMC on Blu-ray. Awesome, awesome to see. Basically, when you look at it, it's the exact same cover art on the Blu-rays that you're finding on the DVDs. The Blu-rays are silver and or gray and white, basically. And you got all your episodes on each disc found there. Pretty awesome. uh we have um some special features including the gomer pile usmc pilot from the andy Griffith Show which is a very nice addition because if you don have the Andy Griffith Show you may miss that Well, you don't miss that because that's the introduction to the series, which is needed. There's all kinds of vintage sales presentation clips and audio commentaries on select episodes. Pretty cool. And that's on the first season there. Pretty cool. Love it, love it, love it. It's a pretty awesome little set. Now, the interesting thing is I have checked out some of the episodes of season one. I haven't gone through the whole series yet. It's going to take a while to get through the whole series. But we have gone through the first, let's see, the first disc and on to the second disc right now. So we have seen some of it. And there is an upgrade to it. It's not a massive upgrade. You know, it's not like it's been restored in 4K or anything like that. It's not that. But it looks like there is a slight upgrade to the Blu-ray from the DVD. Of course, there's bound to be because Blu-rays hold a lot more space, so the quality doesn't have to be pushed down and whatever. So it is an upgrade, and the episodes do look pretty crisp and clean. There's no signs of damage from the episodes that I've seen so far. They look pretty good. It is definitely an upgrade. Will you want to upgrade your DVDs to that? Well, that's up to you. There is a slight upgrade to it and they do look better of course but do you want to retire the old DVDs for the awesome Blu-rays? That's up to you. That's something you have to decide, but I will say there is an upgrade to it, and it looks pretty awesome. I love seeing the Gomer Pile set like that on the shelf. I think that's pretty cool. Pretty cool to see it. Just one thing you can say when you watch Gomer Pile and you see it on Blu-ray in HD is Shazam. That's one thing you can say. It's pretty cool. So yeah, we'll have a full written review of the entire series as soon as we get through it and check it out and check out all the bonus features and all that kind of good stuff.
