Transcript: Exploring the Gospel in Western TV Classics: Colt 45 Complete Series

Greetings, classic cinema and TV fans. Jason here with you once again on Classic Cinema Plus. And today we are not talking about cinema. Today we're talking about classic TV. And this is some of you that are classic television fans probably have already seen this release, you know, maybe on some channels and maybe you've saw it on social media or whatever. But this is something we wanted to just share. We're going to have a full written review of this at Classic Semi Plus, our official website coming up in a little bit. But this is just kind of a first look and we'll tell you a little bit about what we've seen of the series and what it looks like. So be sure to like, share and subscribe. All right, so for fans of Westerns, this is one that people have been dreaming about a physical media release for like ever. There were thoughts that this series was going to come to DVD a few years ago, but that kind of fell by the wayside. And I think it was because they wanted to do a restoration of it instead of just putting it out on physical media, just on DVD. So wait a little bit until we restore it and make it the best it can be. And that time has finally occurred. It's the complete series of Cult 45. Wow. So, yeah, for Western fans, this is a dream come true. Yeah, an amazing box set, as you can see. Pretty epic. Pretty awesome. Yeah, Colt 45. Yeah, so enormous success of Warner Brothers Television's hit series Cheyenne, as we're reading this, paved the way for more Westerns for ABC television. And in fall of 1957, Warner Brothers Television premiered three new Westerns, including Cold 45. Loosely based on the adaption of the 1950 feature film, it's set in the American West of the 1870s. Colt 45 stars newcomer Wade Preston as Christopher Colt, a giant of a man who works undercover on a special assignment for the U.S. Army Intelligence Corps to combat the lawlessness of the young country's frontier. This series was basically a Colt classic and even more than that it really a classic if you really get right down to it It not thought of in the same breath or talked about in the same breath as shows like Gunsmoke or Have Gun Will Travel or Bonanza or some of the other westerns Cheyenne or some of those It's really not thought of in that same breath with a lot of people. And that is a shame because Colt 45 was really an interesting show. Not the hour-long show that Gunsmoke, later episodes of Gunsmoke were, Uh, but, uh, the half hour sitcom or not sitcom, but half hour adventure, uh, was Colt 45. Um, really kind of interesting. Uh, now, um, I never saw Colt 45, you know, of course in its original run and, uh, I haven't even seen it in the reruns, right? Um, so, so this was kind of my first time ever checking it out. And I have to say, I was kind of impressed with the stories, with the adventure. Wade Preston is pretty amazing as Christopher Colt. I really enjoyed his acting. I think it was really amazing the way he performed in this series. It was really, really good. I enjoyed it. Um, so what we're doing here is we're just going to show you what these look like. These are the, uh, DVD or Blu-ray sets that you, uh, have. You got season one, two, and three of the, uh, series. Um, the, the same artwork more or less is on all the discs. We won't go into showing you all of them, um, in great detail because basically it's, you know, basically the same artwork, um, more or less. Um, okay, so not really a whole lot of difference in, in the artwork, uh, for the, the season discs. Um, and, and even the seasons themselves are, uh, the, the artwork is pretty much the same. Um, but, uh, it is, uh, pretty impressive. Uh, a lot of episodes here. Um, as you can see, let's, uh, take a quick look at it. But you can see there is tons of episodes there, as you can see. Okay. There's those episodes. If you'd like to check them out and read them, you can pause the video and check them. But anyway, and then, of course, there. So yeah pretty interesting Now I will say this series has been restored And I can compare them okay because I never really saw them before this But I will say the picture is amazingly crisp. You know, really, when you get down to it, there's nothing to compare them to on physical media because this was never released before. Um, that's what makes this release so amazing. Colt 45 has never seen a release of home video ever. And that is like, that's why this complete set is like so amazing because it's never seen a home video release before this. And so fans of classic Westerns are, are like really excited about this because of the fact that this is the first time ever. We've never seen Colt 45 before on DVD or Blu-ray. This is the first. And so there's really nothing to compare it to as far as, you know, a DVD release in comparison to this release because it's just never been done. But I will say the picture of the episodes that I've seen are amazing. I mean, they're crisp and clean. the black and white really pops on this restoration, on these Blu-rays in HD. I mean, they really, the episodes pop and they look so amazing. The audio is clean and crisp and there's really no signs of pops or snaps or hissing or anything that you get with old releases sometimes. They really cleaned up the audio, and it's just amazing. I literally am continually shocked by the way Warner Archive restores these old films and TV shows to pristine condition. They really look amazing. It boggles my imagination, especially when you look at some of these older films that we have seen that have been released on DVD or whatever. And they have the hiss and they have the pops and they have all these grain, like scratches and dirt and debris on the picture. And then Warner Archive grabs one of these old films and they clean them up and they make them so beautiful and they wipe away all the dirt and debris. And it just, they basically bring these old shows and these old movies to life again and give them a second life in HD. I mean, it's amazing. It's just spectacular. So I have to say it is pretty, pretty awesome. To see all 67 episodes of Colt 45 the TV series on Blu Stellar amazing just spectacular It cool There really not much else you can say, but boy, is it awesome to see. Now, as always, not everybody loves Westerns. So this is for audiences that like the Western genre. And if you are, then I say, hey, you need Colt 45 in your collection. It's a really fun series, really exciting, really, really well produced and now in HD on Blu-ray. How can you not want this? I mean, it is just, it is very, very cool. I love that slip cover. I think that slip cover just for these Blu-rays are just, it's really awesome. Love that right there. I think that's so cool. It just, it just looks, looks amazing. It's amazing looking on the shelf. Uh, so yeah, if you're a fan of Westerns, definitely, uh, you're going to want to check out Colt 45 because it is that cool. Um, thanks to Warner Archive, uh, for, uh, for restoring this classic Western and, uh, releasing it on Blu-ray. That is so awesome. Who knows what else we're going to receive down the line. Warner Archive continually is just amazing with releases. So I'm excited for what's next and what's coming down the pike as we head through 2024. If this is any indication of what we're going to be receiving coming down the line. 2024 is going to be epic. So can't wait for it.
