Greetings, Classic Cinema and TV fans. Jason here with you once again on Classic Cinema Plus. And today we're talking about a spoof movie. Spoof movies are so much fun. I've always loved them. And Mel Brooks is probably one of the ones that is most known for spoof movies. The spoofs of like silent films, of like the westerns, of like all the different things. And so he's like the king of that. But there have been many, many spoof movies over the years. And we're going to talk about one. And it's a brand new release today on Classic Cinema Plus. Be sure to like, share, and subscribe. All right, so one of my favorite movie series has to be Star Wars. Yes, the series of films that have been done by Disney further along are not my favorite by no means, but there is nothing like the original Star Wars trilogy. Love the beginning, the way it was. I mean, this is perfect. And Star Wars became a phenomenon. People love Star Wars. I mean, it was just like a thing that people couldn't get enough of it, right? Because it was just like continuous. It was like, oh, well, every time they would put a new movie in theaters, people were just jumping for another one. And then they got the prequel series trilogy, and that became humongous. And it was just a thing. People loved Star Wars. And so spoofs came about, right? And probably one of the greatest spoofs of Star Wars has to be, of course, Mel Brooks, right? Mel Brooks' spoof of Spaceballs has to be the best of all time. It's just so well written. But there was one that I didn't even know existed until this release came out from the good folks at MVD Rewind Collection. When I saw this, I was like, I didn't even know this even existed. And so I had to check it out. And it just arrived today, and I just checked it out. And, boy, is this thing crazy and in a good way crazy. It's so off the wall nuts and it's just a lot of fun. This one is called Hardware Wars. Okay. This is going to be crazy, right? It's a spoof of Star Wars, right? And it is done in such a unique way that it is like, I would never have dreamed of doing this. they took hardware, you know, like hardware appliances, basically, like toasters and vacuum cleaners and different things and an iron and made that like the spaceship. And that's what it is. That's why it's hardware wars. I don't, for the life of me, I can't even imagine where that came to somebody mind You know I really can I can imagine somebody looking and seeing like standing and seeing an iron and going a spaceship and like a vacuum cleaner and going spoof of R2-D2, right? I just can't imagine that, right? But it was, it's kind of a fun little little film. Um, it's, uh, uh, it's not a full length feature film. It's more of a, um, a short film. It's about 13 minutes long. Um, and it's, it's more, if you want to be honest, it's more plays like a, a really long trailer is what it is. Um, but it's kind of cute in a lot of ways. It really is. So MVD Rewind Collection have released this on Blu-ray and given it a deluxe edition release. It's pretty cool. OK, so let me just, you know, it's basically a spoof, but it's a fluke Starbucket must learn to master the power of the farce. You see what happened. That's pretty cool. With the help of Artie Deco. Okay. 4Q2. Right. Princess Anne Droid. Uh-huh. It gets worse. And believe it or not, ham salad. That's, yeah. Wow, that's Han Solo. Ham salad. It's crazy. But in a really entertaining way. It's crazy, but in a very entertaining way, right? It's just, it's off the wall nuts. So anyway, this film was basically made for about $8,000 and made over a four-day period. And it's crazy, but it's entertaining, I will say that. This new release from MVD comes with the cool slipcover here. Love that. That's pretty cool. Pretty cool slipcover there, as you can see. Then on the inside, you have different artwork, and there's much more different artwork than this. But I love this one. This is one of my favorites here. Looks like the old VHS tapes you would get at one of the old show of the mom and pop shows or the places or the blockbusters or whatever. Rental. Let's see that. Rental, not for sale. Yeah, that's pretty cool. um in addition there's more artwork which is this artwork if you prefer different artwork that's pretty cool so you got two different kinds that you can choose from i love this one better so that's why i use that one um the disc is uh as we have seen with the rewinding collection uh continuously looks to me like uh a vhs tape it's like a vhs tape with a label um it really does that's what it looks like to me. Let me show you. See, it just looks like something from like a VHS tape with one of those labels on it. That's what it looks like. It's pretty cool In addition to that there is exclusive Hardware Wars merchandise It like a little little ad there about that That pretty cool that you can get That pretty awesome I like that And then as with MVD Rewind a little mini poster. How about that? A mini poster of Hardware Wars. Love that. That is so cool. Now, in addition to the original film that we get here, there is so much more here. As I said, it's about a 13-minute, depending on the version you're watching, about a 13-minute film. But there is a brand new 2K HD transfer from the surviving element. And so there's that. There is an audio commentary with the director and writer. There's Hardware Wars Director's Cut, which is a little bit shorter, which is unique. That's pretty cool. There is a Hardware Wars prequel featurette. Very cool. The foreign version of Hardware Wars, you will find that when you watch the trailer or you watch the film. It doesn't quite match up because it's a foreign version. Okay. There is a 1978 creature feature interview with the director. Pretty cool. um hardware wars saves christmas featurette that is pretty awesome as well i love that uh award we are real there's the hardware wars trailer um um porcolypse now uh featurette um it's a kind of like a shouldn't say a featurette it's more like a film if you will it's a uh parody of Apocalypse Now, so that's kind of really interesting. It seems to me like the director here loves to do the feature, like, you know, spoofs, so that's pretty cool, actually. Plan 9J from Outer Space, a parody of Plan 9 from Outer Space, which, let's be honest, that film didn't need a parody. Plan 9 from Outer Space is a parody all of its own. I mean, let's be honest. Plan 9 from Outer Space is like one of the, it's considered one of the worst films and it's made fun of and all. So they didn't really need a spoof. It's a spoof all on its own. But anyway, I haven't seen that one. So I'm looking forward to checking that out and see what in the world, how did they spoof plan nine? Cause plan nine is a spoof in itself. That's going to be interesting to see. So that's going to be cool. As we said, reversal artwork and you know, many posts are all included in here. So this is a really, really interesting little release. You can see the bonus features are just pretty massive there. So while you get hardware wars here and you're saying, oh, well, that's only a 13-minute release or a 13-minute film or whatever, but there is additional spoof films of Porkalypse Now and Plan 9J from Outer space So uh interesting So so really it like three films if you will And and even more than that So this is a really really pretty big epic release I kind of thought it was kind of fun Now, like I said, I have watched the first one, the Hardware Wars itself. I have seen that, but I haven't gone in detail with the rest of the stuff. And for what it is, the restored version looks really good, And the 2K restored scan version of the film looks really good, much more in comparison to the other versions of the film. It looks pretty clean. So that's pretty good. Not perfect, of course. But this was a spoof film, and it was not meant to probably see the light of day beyond what it was. So it's kind of cool, though. But I love it. I think it's kind of cute, actually. I will say also it is pretty cute to see ham salad. That's so hard to say. The spoof version of Han Solo has a Wookiee, if you will, and they call him the Wookiee monster. And if you look at it, it is basically the cookie monster with cross-eyed. you know it's it's a it's a brown version of the cookie monster with cross eyes and there's at one point in the in the in the film that he actually tries to uh eat the buns off of uh princess uh and droid's head because it looks like a cinnamon bun. So he's like grinding. Oh, it's, it's nuts. It's crazy. But it's, but it's, but it's a lot of fun. It's a lot of fun. So, so guess where this is going? I have the entire Star Wars collection on the shelf over here. And all of them from the original to the, The prequel series, the regular series, then all the new movies, the TV series, all the different things. They're right over here. And Spaceballs goes right on that shelf with it. And now Hardware Wars as well. So there you go. So if you're looking for, if you're in the mood for something off the wall and crazy and just like, what am I seeing? and you love Star Wars and you love maybe Spaceballs, the spoof of Star Wars, definitely check out Hardware Wars. It's crazy, but it's a lot of fun. So, yeah, definitely check it out. All right. I want to thank MVD for sending this my way so that I can check it out. And I'll have a full written review of Hardware Wars coming to Classic Cinema Plus very, very soon. So be sure to keep your eyes open for that. And check it out. All right. Thank you for joining me.
