Transcript: Guyver 4K Blu-ray CD Review and First Look

Greetings Classic Cinema TV fans, Jason here with you once again on Classic Cinema Plus and today we are talking about a cult classic that is now coming to 4K Blu-ray on physical media. For physical media fans, this is going to be something special, especially if you love, you know, sci-fi, superhero, monster, kaiju type things. This is going to be epic. Yeah, this is brand new from Unearthed Films and MVD Visual, we're talking about the Guyver. My goodness. This is an interesting film. I saw this film a lot of years ago, and one time, one time, watched it one time many, many years ago, and it kind of stuck with me, even after all these years. And I don't know how many times over the years, uh, I've been thinking about this film, uh, trying to remember all the details of it and trying to remember, um, cause it seemed like it, it seemed really, really cool, like really epic, like really awesome. Um, cause yeah, I grew up on, on, um, the kaiju films like, um, Mothra and, and, uh, Godzilla and all those. I mean, you know, that, that was, um, that was, that was the epic, that was the, the, the introduction to me for, for kaiju, um, you know, monster movies from, uh, uh, from the Asian culture and stuff, and so that, you know, Godzilla and Mothra and, and the different monster movies and the monsters from, uh, that was my introduction to that, and, um, when I came across the Diver, I don't even remember where I watched it. I really can't. I can't remember if it was like a VHS tape or a DVD or if it was on TV. I can't remember exactly how I saw it, but I did see it. And it just stuck with me It really has even after all these years And so here lately I been thinking for about the last two years I like to see that again right And I couldn come across it And then Unearthed Films and MVD announced this release of The Giver. And I was like, yes, yes. after all these years of thinking about it, after several years thinking about Guyver and the Guyver and thinking about, I'd like to check it out again. Now I get to check it out in 4K. That is amazing. A brand new 4K scan and brand new 4K restoration. It is like, yes, this is so cool. Really kind of an interesting little film. I'm going to try to, you know, it's really in detail, but I'm going to try to make it as simplistic as possible, okay? So there's this Sean Baker. He's a college student. He comes across this device, okay, called the Giver, and the Giver basically merges with him and he becomes this cyborg-like creature. And it's interesting because these machines belong to the Kronos, okay? It's a corporation of human mutants that change into the Zillanoids. This is like in craziness, right? So Mark Hamill is in this, and he's like a detective, and he's trying to figure out all the stuff that's going on, right? and uh but there is epic battles between the zillinois and and the guyver and and there's just these oh the creature features the creature effects of this film is like insane it's like really really cool um i've always loved it and um so when this came in i was like i gotta check it out. I have to check it out. So I have seen this after all these years, and I have to say, it is still awesome. It's as awesome as I remember it. It's not one of those type of things that you look and you say wow this is like Citizen Kane or this is Rebel Without a Cause or Reckland for a Heavyweight some of my favorite films It not like these dramatic films but this is like so cool is what it is It a sci superhero fighting crime, fighting bad guys, fighting bad monsters and all this type of thing, and it is just so cool. It is so cool. I love it. It says right here, it says part human, part alien, pure superpower right there, and that is so cool. I love it. So we get it in 4K. This new release here is in 4K in Blu-ray, and there's a special bonus feature. We'll talk about that in just a second. Get your slipcover, okay? Different artwork on the inside. Very, very cool. Love that. Inside, you have a booklet filled with all kinds of stuff about the Giver movie and the monsters. Look at that. The monsters. That's pretty cool. And there. Pretty cool. Pretty cool. Now, what I love about this is there's tons of bonus features. Not only do you get a 4K restoration of the original film, but from a 35mm camera negative, which is the best you can get. So that's pretty cool. But beyond that, you get all kinds of audio commentaries. You get all kinds of new interviews. And there's a new gag reel, which is pretty cool. production and artwork galleries. There's alternate title sequences, which is really, really cool. And the trailer. Now, all that is awesome, but there's something even greater here. Check this out. 4K disc. Blu-ray disc. Now get ready. Look at this. soundtrack. Yes. Okay. So what they've done here is they have included the CD soundtrack of the Giver in this collection. That is so awesome. I'm going to tell you, talking about going above and beyond to make a release something insanely special Yeah And I forgot to show you this This is your inside cover There's also this. It's a reversible inside cover. See that for the 4K? So you can get both versions. So that's pretty cool. I like that. Pretty awesome stuff. one thing I will say is when MVD and Unearthed Films come together to bring us something, you can rest assured it is something spectacular. And I am looking forward to check out all the bonus features, check them out and see what those look like and all, and give you a full written review. So we will be doing that at Classic Cinema Plus very, very soon. So if If you love kaiju monsters and you love superhero and you love the cyborg type thing, this is the best of all those. Pretty awesome stuff. The Giver 4K Blu-ray right now. And the addition of the soundtrack is too cool for me. I love that. That is pretty cool.
