Christian Movie Reviews: The Three Stooges' Classic Comedy

Pastor Jay reviews classic comedy movies, specifically the Three Stooges.

Greetings, classic cinema fans. This is Pastor Jay with you once again. We're talking classic bingeable shows and movies and stuff during this COVID-19 pandemic. We're trying to give you a kind of break up your days as we're still going through this, trying to flatten the curve, still trying to make things better for our country here in America. We have seen a lot of our states opening up, and here in our state where we're living, we've opened up to a major degree, not completely, but a lot. And it's kind of cool to see things opening up a little bit and people getting out and people getting a little bit back to normal to a degree. It's kind of cool. But we still want everybody to be safe. And if you can stay inside, please stay inside. Be safe and only go out for necessities. Just don't go out just for the sake of it. It's just not the best thing to do. But let's try to be safe together. And today we're going to talk probably one of my favorite comedy teams of all time. We're talking the Three Stooges. They had so many incarnations of the Three Stooges. They had Moe, Larry, and Curly, Moe, Larry, and Shemp, Moe, Larry, and Joe, Moe, Larry, and Curly Joe, just Moe, Larry, and Curly Joe Dorita. I mean, you know, just all different types of incarnations of the classic Three Stooges team. But the interesting thing was with all of the Three Stooges, the one thing that stayed similar and stayed the same was Moe and Larry. They stayed together through the whole thing. It's just that Third Stooges seemed to change. But anyway, we want to talk today about the Three Stooges because it's probably one of my favorite comedy teams. And that's because I love all kinds of different comedy. I love Abbott and Costello. We may talk about them. I love Laurel and Hardy. I love Martin and Lewis. You can just go on and on. But we want to talk about our Three Stooges collection and talk about how you can maybe binge on some of these great, great shows from the Three Stooges. So first off, I want to talk to you about this collection. This is the complete DVD release of The Three Stooges. The Three Stooges did short films at the beginning of their career. And this is the complete collection of The Three Stooges. Now, this is really cool to have every single one. This is all the Three Stooges' films right here from Molary and Curly, Shemp, Joe, all of them right here in one collection. Now, as cool as this is, I will say I didn't realize what this box set was until I brought it home. And this is just a point of interest because I want to share with you in case some of you are thinking of buying this. this is probably not the best set in the world to buy for the simple reason that it is this way. The box is like that and this comes out and you take the top off and they are stacked discs. All stacked discs. It's terrible. Not my favorite way to have a collection. People give Mill Creek Entertainment a lot of grief for them putting in paper sleeves. I'd rather have paper sleeves than this, personally. But anyway, it is what it is. This is a good set, though. It's got every single Three Stooges classic in here. A lot of people have their favorite stooge, whether it be Moe Larry or whether it be Shemp or Curly or Joe. Now, my mom absolutely cannot stand Joe. She just absolutely cannot stand him. She says she can't stand his babyfied character. And so maybe some of you are like that, too. I don't know. But she just can't stand him. She can handle Shemp, but her favorite, of course, is Curly. But a very, very cool set. What's your favorite? Who's your favorite, Stooge? Let us know in the comments. We'd like to hear from you. This is everything. Everything from The Woman Haters, which was an amazing, cute film, to Slappy Bullfighters. It's got everything. And the cool thing about it is this. It has it listed like this to where you can at least go to the disc. Even though you have to, it's in a spindle and you've got to go through them that way, which is, again, terrible. This is at least a way you can have them and you can see what's on each disc and then you can get them that way. If they didn have this this would be a really lousy set But again it still not the most spectacular set in the world But hey at least we have every single one of the Three Stooges in this box set So very, very cool, though. I'm glad I have it, but it's not the best way to collect it. But, hey, what are you going to do? This was a gift to us many, many years ago, and it is the collector's edition 75th anniversary, the Three Stooges. this has got several of the old classic short films as well as some of the classic cartoons it's got all kinds of interesting things in it like little documentaries and all kinds of stuff and a collector's booklet I love the collector's booklet I should say that this is like a special little I call it a booklet but it's probably more not really a booklet but anyway It is like stills of all kinds of the Three Stooges. It's just all kinds of pictures of the Three Stooges all through the years. Very cool stuff. And then it has some on the back as well. Very awesome stuff. This is just a pretty cool little set. It's definitely one I like to have on my shelf. and always remember the great Three Stooges through this awesome little set of the 75th anniversary collection of the Three Stooges. Very, very cool little set there. I like that. Let's continue on a little bit with, let's do some interesting things here. This was a set sent to us from Legend Films, and this is a three-disc Three Stooges set, the greatest routines, extreme rarities, and then the last one is live and hilarious. Now, the thing that makes this one such an amazing one is the Alive and Hilarious because that is the Three Stooges in their live performance on Ed Wynn's show. It's so cool. I love that. I love that. Just an amazing little collection here of awesome stuff. Greatest Routines. goes through a lot of their classic routines in their shows. Extreme rarities. You get live TV sketches. You get Three Stooges on the Danny Thomas show, which is really interesting. Joe Besser interview. Just all kinds of stuff on here. So, yeah, I mean, this is a really kind of a cool little collection of rare stuff that you don't find everywhere. Then, because we're such Three Stooges fanatics, a lot of people would scream and holler about this, but, hey, I've got to have them because it's just, it is what it is. These are some of, I don't have all of them, but these are some of the colorized versions of the Three Stooges. I know some of you classic fanatics are going to sit there and say, never colorize anything. But hey, it's the Three Stooges. I have to have everything I can get. This is from Legend Films here. This is the colorized four public domain films of the Three Stooges. This is Disorder in the Court, Malice in the Palace, Sing a Song of Six Pants, and Brideless Groom. One Curly Short and Three Shimp Shorts. But very well done. A lot of people would scream about colorizing, but hey, they're very well done. I can't complain about it. They look really spectacular, so I'm pretty happy with having those in color. Um, this one is another one. This is Swing Parade. The, uh, again, another film, uh, released from, um, Legend Films. Uh, this is, uh, Swing Parade is a, um, basically a full length feature, if you will. and colorized and all. And very, very cool. An old one of the Three Stooges. So really, really cool. Just love this. You get a commentary feature with this one from Mike Nelson of the Mystery Science Theater 3000. Just awesome stuff. Awesome stuff. There's also, and I never really realized this until I just saw that. I can't believe I just noticed that just now. I've had this for a long time. There's an episode of My Little Margie on here too. Kind of strange, but it is. It's on there. Okay, classic TV show, My Little Margie. All right, now we're going to the actual Columbia Pictures releases of the colorized ones that we have. These ones. These are the Three Stooges colorized here. we have Stooged and Confused, Stooges on the Run, and Goofs on the Loose. So very, very cool stuff. All right, Stooged and Confused, four of the classic Curly episodes here. And we get Violent is the word for Curly, one of my favorites. Oh, I love that. You Nazdy Spy, very hilarious. uh no senses no feelings and an ache in every stake very very cool um just great great uh comedy here and the colorization of these are really really spectacular they look great so definitely worth checking out if you if you not a fan of black and white stuff check out the Colorized They really do a good job I always said that if you going to be a color snob I use that word color snob because there are some people that will not watch a black and white film. So if you're going to be that way, well, get a Colorized version of the Three Stooges and watch that, because they're that great. this is Stooges on the Run the next collection of the ones that we have we don't have all these and like I said we gotta remedy that but anyway this is Dizzy Doctors Calling All Kurz Another Disorder in the Court and Pop Goes the Easel all of these and with these collections you get the original black and white and you get the colorized version which is very very cool so you get them both ways but the whole reason to get these is because they're colorized. That's why you get these. But very, very cool stuff. I like these collections. Very, very cool. And then final one we got here is Goose on the Loose. This one has Men in Black. Now, I know people hear that term, Men in Black, and they automatically think Tom Lee Jones and Will Smith. No, this is the original Men in Black. This is the Three Stooges Men in Black, and they are not fighting aliens and trying to save the world. They are working in a hospital. And you can imagine, you can imagine, if you're sick and you're in the hospital, and Moe, Larry, and Curly show up, yeah, that's not good. I love it. But Men in Black, very, very cool. The Sinner Downers, a really funny episode where they're trying to build a house to have their future wives move in. And, oh, hilarious. Punch Drugs and Playing the Ponies. Very, very cool stuff. All colorized and really awesome. I love these. I love these collections. We've got two more things to talk about here today. as we look at the Three Stooges collection. Okay, a few years ago, Mill Creek Entertainment released something that is just unbelievable. And this has to be part of our review here and our talk of the Three Stooges. And that is this, the Three Stooges Big Box of Nyucks collection. 40 hours of entertainment. 40 hours of entertainment. And this is an unbelievable box set. Okay, there is 10 DVDs in this set, okay? In this collection is just jam-packed with awesome stuff. You get movies, you get the classic shorts, you get cartoons, you get documentaries, you get movies, you get every kind of thing you can think of in here. Okay, they have, let's just jump into this and we'll show you some of the cool stuff that is in this. It comes in a three DVD set here like this. There's three of them here, three boxes, okay, like this. And they are more than what they look like. They look like they're one discs, but they're not. They're filled with all kinds of stuff. This is the movie collection here. Six Three Stooges films. The Three Stooges go around the world in a daze, rocking in the Rockies. The Outlaws is coming. Time out for rhythm. Three Stooges meet Hercules and Have Rocket Will Travel. And very, very cool films from the Three Stooges. And they are all collected in this set. It's just unbelievable. Now, see, to me, having this two-disc set here of the Three Stooges with all these movies, that's enough to make it worthwhile right there. But Mill Creek went a step further, and they did The Sultans of Slapstick. And this collection features the complete cartoon series of the Three Stooges. You get all 156 episodes of the cartoon series of The Three Stooges. All 156 episodes, including the live-action intros and outros. Very awesome stuff. Also included in this is Hey Moe, Hey Dad. It is a nine-part documentary series. Very awesome. You get Stooges Classics, which is four films, four of the public domain films, and two unaired TV pilots, which is amazing. Amazing. The TV pilot, some of you may have seen it. It's public domain, I believe, and it's on the Internet. But the one is about the Three Stooges being like, you know, men for hire, if you will, and going in and destroying everything. And it's really a great TV pilot. I wish they would have put it on the series, but it just didn't work and they didn't do it. Then later there was one with Curly Joe Dorita, Larry, and Moe, and they tried that one and it didn't work as well. But you get both of them on here. Then you get the Three Stooges family photo album and slideshows with music featuring the Three Stooges. Very, very cool stuff. Just awesome, amazing things here from the Three Stooges. Love that. Then we get the Masters of Mayhem collection This is also another collection of stuff from the Three Stooges And this is really awesome stuff This is probably one of the coolest parts of this collection Well, the movies are probably the coolest part, but this is second, in my opinion. This you get the 2000 biopic of the Three Stooges featuring Paul Ben Victor, Evan Handler, John Kaiser, and Michael Chiklis all in this and playing the Three Stooges. Very awesome biopic as well. So I can't believe they got that and put that on here. That's unbelievable. You get 14 Shemp Howard comedy shorts. Unbelievable. 10 Joe Besser comedy shorts, 4 Joe Dorita comedy shorts, and 3 early cartoons featuring the Three Stooges. Very awesome. Featuring characters like the Three Stooges in different cartoons. Awesome stuff. But beyond that, in this collection, you get this awesome booklet that gives you all kinds of information about the Three Stooges. Legacy of Laughter, you get Moe Howard, and it talks all about him. It talks all about Curly Howard and Larry Fine. Shemp Howard and Joe Besser. And, of course, Curly Joe Dorita. And then you have the, this one is really kind of cool. It's kind of like a chronological of the Order of the Three Stooges comedy. Very, very awesome stuff. This collection is just so cool. For Stooges fans, I can't imagine anybody not having this if you're a Stooges fan. But if you have not found this, definitely check this out. All right, the final thing I want to talk about with The Three Stooges is this. This is the Three Stooges movie that was made here recently. I say recently, but it was 2012, so it was about eight years ago. So it's more than recently. It's actually not recently at all. But anyway, but it's more recent than the 30s. So anyway, but this this one is. It says here, fun for the whole family. And I will say, it's not bad, but there is some things that are a little bit edgy for the younger audiences. So, yeah, it's something you've got to kind of watch a little bit. But it's a funny film. And, I mean, I have to say, Will Sasso does a good job as Curly. I mean I guess all of them do good but like anything with a remake anytime you're taking a classic character and you're trying to take them and remake them and put somebody else and make them play that character it's just not going to be the same but it's a good little film so definitely worth checking out if you get a chance, it's not bad but anyway So that's something we're talking about today is the bingeable shows and movies and stuff. And we're talking the Three Stooges. So here we go. This is the Three Stooges collection here of the stuff that we have right now of the Three Stooges. When you look at that, you look and you see and you say, wow, there's not a whole lot there. But there is a major amount there. It's just everything is in, every single Three Stooges short is in here, and 40 hours worth of stuff here, and then all this other stuff. Yeah, so there's quite a lot there.
