Pastor Jay discusses the new Batman animated series, Batman: The Caped Crusader.
He shares his initial thoughts on the series, hoping it will be a continuation of the original series.
However, he believes the new series may be dumbed down for a younger audience and focus on happy endings.
Pastor Jay also shares his preference for owning physical copies of movies and TV shows over streaming.
Greetings Classic Cinnamon TV fans, it's Pastor Jay here with you once again. And today, right now, as we're recording this, of course we will release this later, but as we are recording this, there has just been a pretty amazing piece of knowledge dropped on us for entertainment fans. And that is simply that we're getting a new, brand new series, Batman the Animated Series. Many of us grew up on Batman the Animated Series such as these. You got Volume 1, Volume 2, Volume 3. These are the ones we have right now. they have been released in the complete series set, which we may pick up sometime down the line. But anyway, right now we're looking at this and we're saying, okay, so we're getting a new Batman the Animated Series. And HBO Max is bringing together three pretty big powerhouses to produce this animated series. Original creator of the original Batman, the animated series, Bruce Timm, tremendous director, J.J. Abrams, and the director of the brand new The Batman movie coming out in 2022. These three are coming together to make this series. Now, first thought was, okay, this is going to be a continuation of Batman the Animated Series That was my first thought And when I first thought of it, I thought, wow, this actually could work For the simple reason that the majority of the original cast, you know, for more or less, are still around I started looking at it And I started saying Okay so who actually is still with us that we could see an actual continuation And Kevin Conroy, who plays, of course, Batman, Bruce Wayne, he's still with us. Lorne Lester, who played Robin, he's still with us. Mark Hamill is still with us, so he played the Joker, and he can still do the voice. We've seen that. Richard Mull played Harvey Dent. He's still with us. That's pretty cool. Going through here and seeing so many different characters. But, you know, the majority, we did lose some of these actors. Alfred Pennyworth, of course, was played by Efren Zemlish Jr. He sadly passed away. And Commissioner James Gornan Played by Bob Hastings He passed away So we have lost some But the majority of the cast is still with us Those characters Those people that played those characters Did the voice for the characters And you can still do that I mean that's the cool thing about being a voice actor You can still do the voice No matter how old you get You can still do the voice So that's pretty cool That was my first thought Well, okay, so we could see that happen. We could see the original cast, the original characters, the original people coming back, and maybe we could see the same kind of animation. Maybe it's a continuation of the story. But that's not what's going to happen, according to what I'm reading. So from what I'm seeing is this new series is going to be a new series. It's going to be Batman Caped Crusader, not Batman the Animated Series. Okay, so does that mean we're talking about a brand new, completely brand new series where it's going to go down different paths, we're going to have new actors playing the parts, doing the voices for the parts, or are we going to trade? I don know So that something we just going to have to wait and see on because I don know how this is going to go about I have to be honest with you with the way the world is going and everything is becoming so politically correct and all that type of stuff I don't know I don't know what this is what we're looking at with Batman the Caped Crusader what made Batman the animated series this series so amazing was the fact that it was it didn't didn't take kids and dumb things down for them you know what I mean the animated series and that's what I loved about the animated series was the fact that it was so unflinching as a young teenager I would come home every day and sit down in front of the TV and watch two episodes of Batman the Animated Series every single weekday did that every single day had to do it it was part of my routine and what I loved about it was the fact that not all the episodes turned out happy. I mean, that's sometimes what we do with cartoons for kids. Everything's got to be a happy ending. Well, sadly, there isn't happy endings sometimes in life, and I think that's what I loved about Batman the Animated Series. Sometimes things didn't end happy. Sometimes things ended bad, and there were consequences to people's choices and I think that's what I loved about it. It was so real. My feeling, and I hope I'm wrong, my feeling is that Batman the Caped Crusader is going to be a more dumbed-down version of it. And what I mean by dumbed-down version, in other words, what I'm saying is it's going to be more, things have to be just a happy ending and we've got to make sure that everything is so PC and nobody gets offended and all this type of stuff. And so I have that feeling that that's what we're going to see with this. I don't know. I hope I wrong but we see As we know HBO Max they trying to make new content for everybody so that you will pay for the subscription of streaming HBO Max. I don't know if I'm going to do it. I doubt very seriously I'm going to do it for that reason because I'm just not a fan of paying for subscription streaming. I prefer this. I want to own the physical copies so that I can watch them whenever I want to because the thing is with streaming is sometimes streaming, we've been having issues here in our area recently with Internet going in and out and being kind of a little spotty. we'll see when that happens then you can't stream nothing that's why I like having physical copies of the series and the movies and things like that because then if I want to watch it and I can't stream it well I can watch it elsewhere you know I don't know I doubt very seriously I'm going to pay for streaming just to watch Batman the Caped Crusader if Batman the Caped Crusader comes on DVD or Blu-ray maybe I might pick it up we'll have to wait and see So anyway, that's our thoughts on the new Batman, the Caped Crusader That's going to be coming later from HBO Max What's your thoughts on the Caped Crusader?
